Official 11.11.11 Planning Thread - 17,000 Pledges - Decentralize Facebook Promotion

Each having their own event is definitely a good idea. It can be utilized now, but even more so to a greater effect for the Tea Party.

The how to should be put in the original post.

Facebook should still be used as one of the major vehicles of spreading the word about this money bomb. I'm not big on facebook and even closed my account, but we'd be fooling ourselves if we don't utilize one of the best tools at informing people that we gotta a huge money bomb coming up and everyone needs to attend. My question is, how do we get these great looking banners out to the military and veterans websites or places they like to visit? I'm serious, active duty military could be a HUGE goldmine for Ron Paul and seeing that we're having a money bomb honoring specifically them might just motivate them to donate even more. My friend in the AF donated 2300 bucks to Ron Paul the last time. Those guys could really bump up our average donation total for the day.

I started a facebook ad campaign that directs people to the support them now website. Its a $100 of pay per clicks until the 11th. Targets Ron Paul supporters, veterans, and active military.

Great! If you need any help with money, start a chipin thread and show us your ad.

TexMac, you're brilliant! Why did nobody think of this before? As soon as I get done redoing all these banners, I'll update the first post with this in mind. Using your idea, Facebook events can be used to our advantage. They could be even more effective than email pledges if we have many people doing this. We just need to make it clear that they can't go over 5,000 attendees and that they MUST send out a reminder message on 11/11/11. I LOVE this idea!

Where did the "we shouldn't use facebook" push come from for this moneybomb?
Sentinelrv's planning thread. I was instructed several times to remove any links to the Facebook event. I readded a link to the top left of the page earlier today though.

Yea...

Where did the "we shouldn't use facebook" push come from for this moneybomb? What was the reason for not promoting on there?

Well, I was concerned that the limitations of the Facebook events would get in the way of the event and that perhaps our sole focus on it for BTO caused it to not be as successful because of the lack of messaging, plus the people who blocked the event notifications in their settings. We wanted to push the main website instead this time so we could collect emails to remind people on the date. I wrote it all down on the first post. TexMac came up with a great idea to get around the Facebook event limitations though, so when I get a chance I'm going to change the first post to let everyone know how we can use Facebook events to our advantage. We won't be avoiding them anymore.

I'm in the middle of redoing all the image banners. For those who want a 100 x 100 avatar, here you go...

Here is 64 x 64 also, the same as this forum...

The point wasn't to avoid FB promotion, it was to avoid promoting one event page for everyone to sign up on. Once that page went over 5000, you couldn't message those people, so we want them to sign up ON THE SITE, so we can email them. If anyone's FB event page goes over 5000, it's no longer useful and you should create another one. There should be NO "official" Facebook event page! It will get too big and be useless.

Thanks for the clarification.

It felt to me like there was a "Don't use facebook" vibe.

I think there is a misundertanding stemming from the way I worded the first post. When I'm done creating these banners I'll update it to make it clearer. I'll also include our now Facebook strategy.

No, we need facebook, that's where everyone is. And it's too bad we can't have one event for everyone because it's exciting to see the numbers grow, but it's just not doing what we need it to do, which is allow us to communicate with everyone who has said they would donate.

I really hope we can get everyone on board with this strategy, because I think one of the things we did in 2007-8 that we aren't doing now is to keep in touch with people signed up to donate with updates and reminders all the way through to the end of the moneybomb. The people signed up on the big FB event page for the bto bomb ONLY got a notification the day of the event and many people have notifications turned off. I know I did and I didn't even realize it until I noticed that I never got any communication from the fb event page for bto at all.

So, if anyone sees someone going around promoting the moneybomb with just a facebook link, please comment and add the www.supportthemnow.com link! The fb event pages should be for sending people to the sign-up webpage only. All promotion on fb like posting on groups and pages should use links to supportthemnow.com only.

ETA: Does anyone remember the daily emails sent out for Nov 5 and the TeaParty moneybombs? Every day there was an email sent out updating everyone on the pledge count. It kept everyone engaged and aware of the moneybomb coming up.

How do you target those people? I looked into setting up some ads, but I can't figure out how to target them so specifically.

Ok, I'm almost done but I'm too tired to go on. A little more than half of the images have been revamped and placed on the second post of this thread. I'll finish the rest when I wake up.
