Official 11.11.11 Planning Thread - 17,000 Pledges - Decentralize Facebook Promotion

Interesting

Somebody posted this on a comment about Ron Paul....very interesting, I think this could work well if everyone participated.

why there are allways few people who think they know best what to do...

That´s not free-market. It´s okay to bring new tools but not to take away old ones.

No one ever said not to USE Facebook, we said not to use ONE EVENT PAGE. No "Official" FB page. We don't want any pages too big to message, so break it up. Make your own event page to invite people on FB.

I thought of some new benefits to using this method. We'll be able to use our own event to keep track of our promotion progress, sort of how like how the leader board on BTO helped us to keep track of how many pledges we were bringing in. I'm currently in the middle of updating the first post with all this info. I'll make a separate thread detailing the new strategy when I'm done.

Well - can we stop the "no centralized facebook event" strategy. While I completely agree with all the limitations on facebook as mentioned in this thread - its still our best way to contact people and generate support. Look at how slowly the pledge site is growing. While I agree facebook features are less than ideal - maybe we should just bite the bullet and use it again.

We can't afford to not raise several million dollars for the campaign on the 11th. Facebook has definitely helped us with this the last several go arounds.

Hi, this is my first post. I've been reading about Ron Paul online and watching videos for quite some time, and wanted to share an idea I had. I've read through the various threads on the Support Them Now moneybomb, and seen the redesigns of the page. I noticed that the "Military's Top Tier candidate" graph is a static image. Also, is the the vertical banner pledge competition idea that was mentioned still going to be added? (found earlier in a thread)

I've checked the actual Support Them Now site but I don't see it live yet. I was curious as to whether there is still a plan to integrate this pledge competition leaderboard into the page. Also, I think that making a large vertical space open on the page would help make room for the Military's Top Tier graph, which is in a lot of ways more interesting and memorable than the pie chart, and potentially likely to support conversations and discussions.

But more importantly, as someone with experience in Photoshop and Flash animations, I think the Military Top Tier graph shows tremendous potential for the following:

Total Campaign Contributions by Active Duty Military...

Santorum's donation total rises on the graph (750 next to a 1k scale marker) with a picture.
...
then up to Romney (11,555 next to 10k-11k scale)
Each increasing amount donated seems to be significantly greater than the one before

then Obama
(I'd appreciate links to source files used in the current image, especially since they're scaled down or partially covered in the preview!)
-> then finally a rising bar that surpasses all of them to show Ron Paul's donation total. This is fairly simple to animate in a Photoshop-Flash workflow, merely scaling donation totals and pictures (making text appear and fade for each passing candidate) while zooming out on a large canvas (to show Ron Paul's totals at the end).

When I saw the pie graph, I just thought: We can do better than that. But I'd like to know if there's still plans for the webpage to be vertically expanded. Also, exploring file formats and browser display rules, an animated GIF or FLV seems the way to go. Some photoshop measurements- the general frame area for this seems about 720 wide 920 tall while the graph's final size (including text scale on the left) is 260 wide 820 tall. I think the GIF or FLV flash video would work great to show the Military Top (not just tier, but top overall) Candidate in a way that could help this spread better on facebook-

"Hey, I saw this cool graph," "Check out this animation", and link to "supportthemnow.com". (or at least this url, the date 11.11.11, Ron Paul at the end in text)

Of course, it might make sense to just have the animation as a smaller animated GIF showing, in essence, the height of Ron Paul military contributions out-competing everyone else, followed by, in large, clear text: SupportThemNow.com

If this is a generally amendable proposal (I've seen the discussions on this forum, and how the online grassroots seems to work)

what resolutions would be desired? I can make an FLV for the main site (higher quality, frame rate, more efficient compression) and a more easily spread-able animated GIF for other sites. Once I get the main sequence created, it's easy to resize and reformat it, given that I'm not making the design from the ground up each time, as in

Let me know what you want me to make, for instance, as a proof of concept initial animated work- most importantly what resolution you would like to see and where I can upload it for previewing (I've seen photobucket used).

My Flash / Photoshop animation experience is mostly self-taught, from Multimedia class to research project animations to original creative works. I look forward to applying my skills to this- I have Adobe Creative Suite Production Premium CS4 and experience in projects of this kind.

Here's hoping that more dynamic media than static images, but less involved than full videos, can help bridge that gap and build interest.

I don't think you understand. You can still use Facebook. It's just decentralized now. You create your own event, invite all your friends and then use your own event link to promote and keep track of your progress. Decentralized just means there isn't ONLY one main Facebook event for the money bomb. There are many.

This sounds very interesting. And welcome! We love Blue Republicans here!

Another benefit, we can set the event to the maximum duration, which is four months and use our events like email lists and contact attendees about promotion tips and any upcoming money bombs for up to four months

I'm not sure what's going wrong here, but I posted on FB all day yesterday and ran 4 ads overnight that got 92 clicks and the pledge count went up less than 20.

Also, I don't know if you guys saw my post earlier about emailing the list for the moneybomb, but last campaign (2007-8), the pledge website sent out a DAILY email, updating people on the pledge count. This keeps people engaged and aware of the moneybomb and builds excitement. We need to be doing this.

Only a percentage of those people will sign up, so it sounds about right to me.

I do understand - but the massive decentralization means that no one knows how many people have pledged. We have no clue what's going to happen on the 11th. Furthermore - there is no excitement building momentum because again no-one knows how many people are going to participate. When you have one centralized ticker with thousands of pledges people are more likely to participate and you are more likely to build excitement and momentum for the event.

The pledges need to sign up on the website www.supportthemnow.com. There's a pledge counter there.

My facebook ads have shown some real click through results in the last 24 hours. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a chipin to raise the Facebook bid price. I realize I am a new member so if not I understand.

I would be happy to have a chipin, but how do we know what kind of value we're getting? I don't know enough about facebook ads to know what works.

I'm getting a lot of people on Facebook saying that they would contribute if the moneybomb was about End the Wars or Bring Them Home. I know we have bring them home on some banners, but it isn't very prominent.

Just tell them that this is what it's about. We support them now by donating to Ron Paul so he can bring them home later.

Dark Yellow/Black - MONEYBOMB (facebook profile banner)

In the style of the pledge banner on RPF at this time, and the supporThemNow.com website:

MONEYBOMB-facebook profile banner.

Please browse the images in the album and inspect the copy applied to the album and to each piece of the album. Take special notice of the first "comment" that is seeded on the album, the album cover and on each "banner piece".

Tag each other with this profile banner and then set your privacy settings so that tags applied to you must be reviewed. This will allow you to maintain the banner on your INFO and your WALL pages of your personal profile(s).

UNTAG yourself, and RETAG yourself so that you REPUBLISH the banner to your News Feed. Tag yourself with a second and a third version of the MONEYBOMB banner, to push that new banner into your News Feeds. Any banner you tag yourself with, or tag another with, or tag a community page with will of course remain in their tagged pictures section of their Photo Albums section.

The banner pieces will flow into your News Feeds when you tag yourself, or into the feeds of others when you tag them with the banner.

=========================================

If you download the Album, so that you are an "Album Host", you MUST reproduce the album EXACTLY as you see the album at the mother page that hosts the original album.

It is super-critical that you put the URL, http://www.supportthemnow.com in the appropriate places so that each piece of the banner including the "cover" will function to push facebook users who click the pieces of the banner, tag themselves with the pieces, view the album, or however they interact with the album will see the link and be able to click that link so that they arrive at http://www.supportthemnow.com

Also important !

The - "Where: Where was this photo taken?" - section of each banner piece in the album that you host in your photo albums on your personal profile or album host in your community page's photo section, needs to point to the facebook site where this album originates-> http://www.facebook.com/RonPaulBanners

Ron Paul facebook profile banners are available at: http://www.facebook.com/RonPaulBanners and those that click into the banner pieces will be exposed to that media as well.

This is the first, facebook profile banner that has been used for these purposes, I welcome feedback on any detail of the album, it's notations, or the design of the images themselves.

If necessary I will start a new thread and use this post as the OP.
