How we Raise $4.2 Million:
------------------------

Ron Paul Needs $4.2 Million, Almost Exactly the Same Amount we Raised on Nov 5th 2007

Ron Paul has made it clear that the campaign needs an infusion of $4.2 million before the end of November if they're to carry out their planned advertising buys. They need this money in order to help launch Ron Paul higher in the polls in the early states. We're on the verge of breaking through to the top-tier, but the campaign needs funding though if they're to keep the pressure on the other candidates. What I find amazing is that nearly four years ago on November 5th we raised almost exactly the same amount of money that the campaign needs right now, $4.3 million. What a coincidence! So how did we achieve this four years ago? We obtained 17,000 email pledges on www.ThisNovember5th.com and encouraged a donation amount of $100. Facebook events didn't even exist back then. We promoted a money bomb website and obtained email pledges. While we won't know for sure if 17,000 pledges will equal $4.3 million this time around, we should do everything we possibly can to either reach this goal or far surpass it! The good news is that even if we don't reach our goal, we'll still have until the end of November to reach it.

November 5th Money Bomb - 17,000 Pledges - $4.3 Million Raised

GOAL 1 - 17,000 Email Pledges on the Official Money Bomb Website

For this money bomb, I believe our main focus should be on promoting the official money bomb website everywhere we can. The website should take priority in our promotion efforts. The reason behind this is that unlike Facebook events, the website allows us to collect email addresses, so that we can send out promotion tips and a reminder to donate on the date of the event. We can also carry over the email list into the next money bomb. With each money bomb, we can grow the email list by tens of thousands of people. This doesn't mean you can't use Facebook at all. It only means that you should use Facebook as a tool to promote the website. For our secondary priority, we have a new Facebook strategy that you can read about in the next section. As for our goal, because of the amazing coincidence between Nov 5th 2007's $4.3 million total and the $4.2 million the campaign needs, we'll be trying to reach 17,000 email pledges. While this is a measurement based on a fundraiser that took place four years ago, it's the best comparison we currently have, so let's work on surpassing it! With both the "Black THIS Out" and "Support Them Now" email lists, we'll be able to head into the Dec 16th "Tea Party" Money Bomb with 20-30,000 email contacts, which will give us a huge boost, giving us the chance to finally break our $6,000,000 donation total!

The Limitations of Using a Centralized Facebook Event for Money Bomb Promotion

For the Oct 19th "Black THIS Out" Money Bomb, I created a goal to push for 25,000 Facebook attendees. While we did come very close to achieving this goal, the money bomb didn't quite live up to our expectations. We had planned on raising $6 million, but instead raised almost $3 million, only half of our intended goal. I think we now understand that it was a huge mistake to put such a major focus on only one Facebook event. You see, the Facebook event feature has a lot of limitations. Once you reach a certain number of attendees, you will lose your ability to message them all. Since we had over 22,000 attendees on the "Black THIS Out" Facebook event, we were way over the limit and because of this, we lost our ability to mass message a reminder to these people on the day of the money bomb, which most likely resulted in a much lower turnout. We didn't take into account Facebook settings either. Many people did not receive an automatic event reminder notification on the date of the money bomb because their Facebook settings disallowed it. Both of these limitations most likely cost the campaign massive amounts of money on Oct 19th.

GOAL 2 - Decentralize Facebook Promotion - Create Your Own Event & Push it

Because of these two major limitations, we've come up with a new strategy. Up until now, every money bomb has been centralized around a main website and ONLY ONE Facebook event. For 11/11/11, we're planning to decentralize promotion into hundreds or thousands of individual Facebook events, instead of using only one centralized event. Everybody that wanted to help promote the money bomb would create their own event, invite all their friends and use it for promotion. The idea would be to promote your own event to build an attendee list that you can then use to push people to pledge on the official website. With this decentralized approach to using Facebook events, we won't have to worry about losing the ability to mass message attendees on the day of the event, because with so many events floating around on Facebook, you'll most likely never hit the attendee limit that causes you to lose your messaging ability. And even if you do hit the limit, all you need to do is remove a couple attendees in order to get under the limit and restore your messaging ability and then you can just create an entirely new event and start pushing that instead. Just keep an eye on the "Message Guests" button on your event. If it disappears, you'll know you're currently over the limit. All that you really need to worry about is forgetting to send out a mass message reminding your attendees to donate on the day of the event. You should also keep them up to date with the money bomb and send them promotion techniques by linking them to this planning thread. Under the "Facebook Promotion" section below, you'll find instructions on how to setup your own event, including a banner you can use.

Build a Facebook Messaging List by Setting Your Event to the Maximum Four Month Duration

There are additional details you need to be aware of when creating your own event. For example, once the event ends, you will lose all messaging capability. To get around this limitation, set the event to the maximum duration, which is four months. The money bomb is on 11/11/11, so you would set the end of the event for 03/11/12. With this setting, even after the money bomb is officially over, you'll still be able to keep in contact with your attendee list for up to four months. You'll be able to mass message your attendee list promotion tips and information about upcoming money bombs just as if it was an email list. The only downside is that you'll lose contact with your list after four months. Again, instructions are provided below under the "Facebook Promotion" section.

Use Your Own Facebook Event Link to Track Your Promotion Progress & Create Competition

Another added benefit is that by creating your own event, you'll be able to track how many attendees you've managed to bring in through your own promotion efforts. Don't worry about other people spreading your own event link. They would have never been able to spread it if you hadn't made them aware of the event in the first place. Other people will begin to spread your link and because of that, you'll start to see your attendee list grow much faster. Using this data, you'll be able to see how much of a difference your promotion makes and figure out which strategies you should use to grow your attendee list at a faster rate. You'll also be able to challenge other people on who can create the largest attendee list before the money bomb. Just be sure not to go past the attendee limit or you'll lose your messaging capability for the event. Just be sure to watch the "Message Guests" button on the event. If the button disappears, remove a couple people from the event to get under the attendance limitation, create a new event and start promoting that instead. Promotion competition will push our pledges through the roof. You'll be able to keep track of all this through how many attendees you're picking up on your own event page.

Use Your Own Facebook Event to Push People to Pledge on the Official Website

1. Since you'll be using your own own Facebook event for promotion, you'll be the administrator and you'll able to control its content. The instructions below that tell you how to setup a Facebook event contain an event description I wrote that you can copy and paste. It describes the money bomb and urges people to pledge on the official website so we can collect their email address.

2. Another way is to post status updates on your event linking to the official website and urge them to pledge. Any newcomers that visit your event because of your promotion efforts will see your update at the top of the page about pledging on the main website.

3. You can message any new people individually that attend your event. Just thank them for attending and let them know about pledging on the main website also.

3. You can also mass message all your attendees to keep them updated on the progress of the money bomb by telling them the current pledge count on the website and urging them to pledge if they haven't already done so.

5. There is one other method you can use to push the website through your Facebook event. Under the event banner, hit the "Select Guests to Invite" button. Either select your entire friends list or only your Ron Paul friends, your choice. Before you hit "Submit," at the bottom of the pledge form is a link that says "Add a Personal Message." Click it, write a message asking your friends to donate to Ron Paul on the money bomb, but then link the official website in your message and urge them to pledge there also. This way you can advertise the pledge website by mass mailing your friends about it through the event invitation feature.

How to Setup & Promote Your Own Facebook Event

1. On Facebook, click "Home" and on the left side of the screen click "Events."
2. On the events screen, click "Create an Event" and fill out the form with the details below.
3. After you're done setting up the event, check the section above to find out how to use your event to promote the official website.
4. Make sure to send out a mass message to your attendees on the 11th reminding them to donate!

Add an Event Photo: Use this image banner.
Start Time: November 11, 2011 - 12:00 AM
End Time: March 11, 2011 - 12:00 AM
(Four months is the maximum duration for a Facebook event. Use this setting so that you can continue to use your event's messaging ability even after the event has ended. You can then use your event as if it were an email list by sending promotion techniques and notifications about future money bombs.)
What are you Planning: Ron Paul's 11/11/11 "Support Them Now" Money Bomb
Where: RonPaul2012.com | SupportThemNow.com
More Info: See below for the event description...

This is an "ONLINE" fundraiser for 2012 Presidential Candidate Ron Paul. On 11/11/11 please donate ONLY at RonPaul2012.com! Visit the links below to pledge and learn how to promote. If you pledge, you'll receive a reminder on the day of the event.

The top three contributors to Ron Paul's 2012 Presidential Campaign are the US Army, US Navy and the US Air Force. Ron Paul also receives more military donations than all the other GOP Presidential Candidates combined, including President Obama. The troops are sending a strong message that they want Ron Paul as their next Commander in Chief, so on 11/11/11, support their decision by donating to Ron Paul's Presidential Campaign at RonPaul2012.com. Only by winning the GOP nomination first can Ron Paul win the Presidency and finally put the troops out of harms way by bringing them home to defend America!

How to Use Facebook Event Invitations to Push Your Friends to Pledge at the Official Website

1. Go to the Facebook Event page for the money bomb.
2. If you haven't done so already, hit the "I'm Attending" button near the top right corner of the screen.
3. On the left side of the screen under the Support Them Now banner, click the "Select Guests to Invite" button.
4. Check off all the people you want to invite.
5. At the bottom of the form, click on "Add a Personal Message" and urge them all to pledge at www.SupportThemNow.com.
6. REMEMBER: This method is for using event invitations as a way to spread the website. You MUST include a message linking to the website. The goal here is not to get them to accept the event invitation, though that does help. We need to get 17,000 pledges.
7. If you have any friends that you know are definitely Ron Paul supporters, send them a message and ask them to pledge on the website.

Getting Around the Facebook Event Invitation Limit

1. To get around the Facebook event invitation limit, if Firefox is your browser, watch this tutorial.
2. Install this add-on.
3. Install this script.
4. Refresh the Facebook event page.
5. On the left side of the screen under the Black This Out banner, click the "Select Guests to Invite" button.
6. Your invitation box should now have a "Select All" option.

Post Status Updates & Comments on Ron Paul Facebook Pages

1. Either type Ron Paul in the Facebook search box and hit "See more results for Ron Paul" in the dropbox...
2. Or use all of the Ron Paul Facebook pages that I've linked at the bottom of this post. The pages with the most likes are higher in the list.
3. Go to the wall of any Ron Paul page and hit "Everyone."
4. Now post a status update on the wall about the money bomb so that everyone that visits the page will see it.
5. Post a new status update on these pages every so often to make sure new people visiting the page will always see it.
6. If the Ron Paul page or any other page posts an official status update, make sure to get in there and leave plenty of comments.
7. The best thing we can do is to leave comments and status updates in places where large numbers of Ron Paul supporters will see them.

Upload a Support Them Now Banner Ad to Advertise the Event

1. Save the following picture to your computer and upload it onto your Facebook profile as a status update.
2. It will show up as a large ad in your friend's news feeds. This ad is sized exactly for this purpose.
3. The best way to do this is to upload the picture as a status update on other Ron Paul Facebook pages.

Advertise this Planning Thread on Facebook to Rally Everyone Around the Same Goals

1. In order to get everyone on the same page, we need to advertise this planning thread.
2. Below is a message you can post on Facebook along with the link to this thread.

URGENT! The Ron Paul campaign needs $4.2 million by the end of November in order to fund its planned media buys. By sheer coincidence, on Nov 5th, 2007 we raised almost exactly the same amount, $4.3 million by obtaining 17,000 email pledges.

Our 1st goal then is to obtain 17,000 email pledges on the official money bomb website at www.SupportThemNow.com. Our 2nd goal is to decentralize Facebook promotion, instead of using one event. Create your own event, invite your friends and start promoting it. Visit the planning thread below for more details...

Add these Email Pledge Banners to your Website

1. Help us obtain email pledges by adding these pledge banners to your website.
2. Just copy the following code and use it to install the pledge banner.

4. Make sure to thumb up any other comments about the money bomb.
5. If you are the video uploader, making a comment will place it directly at the top of the comments section for all to see.
6. If the uploader thumbs up your comment, it will jump to the top. Send/PM the uploader a message asking them to do this for you.

Copy this Message & Send/PM it to as Many Ron Paul Video Uploaders as Possible

(When a good promotional video is released, I'll add the message here. We'll be using the BTO YouTube list.)
1. Again, search Ron Paul or other related terms on YouTube and filter the results to show you recently uploaded videos.
2. Any YouTube video you find that is not promoting the Money Bomb, please copy and send/PM the following message to the uploader.
3. This is the most effective thing we can do. It will help to get as many video uploaders aligned around the money bomb as possible.
4. The pre-written Copy & Paste message is located below...

Ok everybody, I worked on this all night. We have a new goal to work toward. Unfortunately, there was a lot of promotional material I couldn't include in this thread because it has yet to be created. Just go through the first post and notice all the red text. It usually means that something needs to be worked on before I can add it, like flyers, banner ads, the email pledge counter, etc... We need to work on these things so I can add them to the thread for people to use.

Will those banners be just switched with the updated banners when they are ready so people don't have to switch them on their websites?

Pay to Advertise
Advertising that specifically targets places where Ron Paul supporters will broaden our reach to people who do not frequent forums and Ron Paul sites.

A list of sites I would utilize or advertise on:
Yahoo & Bing
Google Adwords
Facebook
Twitter

Restore the Republic Social Network
Mike Church website (only $100 for a whole month)
Lew Rockwell (website and podcast)
AntiWar
Info Wars
Above Top Secret
Reason

Stossel and Freedom Watch via Google Ads TV (30 second or 60 second TV ad)

You mean that the images would be switched but the links would stay the same? That's something you'd have to ask Gage. These banners images are linked directly from the main website.

Also, it seems the website is starting to come together, so that's good news. The Facebook event is gone, there's a disclaimer under the pledge box and there's now a link to learn how to promote like Dusman had. I'm glad things are starting to get on track. I can't wait to see how the leader board competition will effect things if we start it early this time.

How about we have one person in charge of ads so we can make a chipin and donate to internet ads? Who was running those FB ads last time? I think they were fairly successful, weren't they?

We need to really work on getting the word out to everyone on this website:
http://rtr.org

It's basically a website of 34,000 Ron Paul supporters.

Those banners above aren't very good. They don't say Ron Paul and many people may not recognize his old picture.

How about we have one person in charge of ads so we can make a chipin and donate to internet ads? Who was running those FB ads last time? I think they were fairly successful, weren't they?

I would recommend a well known poster so as they are trust worthy. We should start with a banner on Mike Church's website. It's only $100 for a month and our exact target audience.

Jordie was I believe, but I think some others tried out as well.

Exactly.

ALSO, what if we give people an option to be notified about the moneybomb by email OR TEXT? How hard would it be to mass text people? We need to explore the possibilities of SMS.

Also, as people gear up to make flyers, etc., can we PLEASE get everyone to use QR codes on them?

This is for Gage. Something I think that helped make the Nov 5th money bomb a success was the goal was stated directly in the money bomb description and it encouraged a larger donation of $100. I think we should do as much to replicate this date as possible, so it might be a good idea to add our goal and the bit about donating $100 in the description. Here is exactly what the description said before nov 5th...

Source: http://web.archive.org/web/20071027030436/http://thisnovember5th.com/??

Please join us this November 5th for the largest one day political donation event in history. Our goal is to bring together 100,000 people to donate $100 each, creating a one day donation total of $10,000,000.

Please subscribe via feedburner below to confirm your commitment to donate. Each day you'll receive an email with our total number of subscribers. In this way we will know exactly where we stand in our efforts. Our goal is 100,000 subscribers.

Please subscribe now. Please spread the word. Thank you.

Downside of the goal is the negative press if we don't reach it. Maybe mentioning that Ron Paul needs $4.2 million and urging them to pledge and donate to help him reach it.

Ignore that, it doesn't matter. The press doesn't follow the moneybombs that closely, they're just impressed with our final numbers.

Did you see any articles about BTO that said we wanted to raise 6 million? I didn't.

How about asking jordie to manage the chipin? We could have other people placing ads, but one central chipin to donate for them.

A central chipin for advertising this money bomb is a good idea, though somebody would need to make another thread about it and who would be in charge. We'd need to make sure the money was being well spent on things that made a huge difference in attendance numbers. I've been up too late doing this, so I'm about to go to bed. I won't be back until around 6:00 PM EST.

Would you guys be able to send out an email to the BTO list informing them of the new money bomb? It would be great to get those people on board early.
