DeMint is in serious trouble

I don't know what to make of this guy, but I like him. I'm glad he won the democrat nomination rather than some establishment hack.

His opponent was a judge....I wonder if a lot of people had friends, family, neighbors that he sent to jail and if that made a big difference.

I can picture this guy making epic speeches on the Senate floor.

How can DeMint combat a master campaign tactician like this? He may as well just concede now...

AP quote

Asked how voters even knew who he was, Greene responded: "I think that, you know, I think that they, they saw, I think that they, you know, I just think that they recognized, I think that they heard of my name when I was campaigning across the state, you know, just to pass the word on, just by word of mouth. I just got the word around."

Greene! The man, the plan, the road to victory!

Im starting the official Alvin Greene fan club. This guy grows on me more every day. Sure, Demint isn't terrible but I may throw Greene a few bucks just on principle and since Im close to SC, might even do a little campaigning for him. His platform isn't terrible actually. Lower gas prices, less police state, unified Korea (less US intervention needed)...

TIRED OF STATUS QUO POLITICIANS WORKING WITHIN THEIR RIGGED SYSTEM!

Wow. Saying he doesn't interview well would be an understatement. But I hope all the jokes aside, people aren't taking this guy lightly.

DeMint has to be laughing about all this. This is only one very tiny step harder a race now for DeMint to win than if DeMint had been running completely unopposed.

Lol, no offence to anyone(seriously, dont mean any), but this reminds me of the stories you hear about the first black representatives in the south after the civil war.

Have they figured out how he got that many votes yet?

Nothing nefarious Im sure. He benefitted from alphabetically being first on the ballot and having a name that SC blacks could identify with. Those that weren't familiar with any of the candidates naturally voted for him.

There is no great conspiracy. People knew Rawl and knew they didn't like him, so they either did not vote in the senate race or picked the guy who wasn't Rawl.
There were 20,000 less votes for Senator than there were for Governor on the Dem side.
I've even read some posts that say they researched the two candidates positions and preferred Greene's. Greene wants to bring the troops home now, lower gas prices, and create jobs according to different pre-election websites.

If he is still on the ballot in November, I'll vote for him.

Not to sound disrespectful but that guy sounded uhm.... uh..... uhm... uh........................... uhm..................... uh.................. uh........................... very... uhm..... unsure..... uhm.... about what ugh..... uhm......... he was ..... what's the word... uhm....... saying.

Do they really just decide who to place on the ballot alphabetically? I remember reading research more than ten years ago about how whoever is named first gets considerably more votes. You would think they would institute randomization to get rid of that effect by now.

Is that nationwide or state by state?

This guy was so under-the-radar that I don't even accept the "blacks vote for blacks" excuse. Nobody knew this guy, what his skin color was, or how he would sound on TV or radio. If he actually had campaigned, it could have brought his numbers down.

I remember something similar to this happening in a school board race once, where an incumbent lost to someone that filed and never campaigned. It is possible.

It's random in ak

I hope he wins I would vote for him. I like the fact that he is not a professional politician. He might just get something real done. I bet he is for ending the war on drugs...

I like this guy Greene. He sounds honest and it was just the anti-establishment fever that propelled the "village idiot" to the top of the Dem heap in SC. I actually don't think this guy is an idiot but rather smart. He's just fatigued from his combat and military duties. I think this guy Greene can go along way but I don't want to see him unseat DeMint just because he seems not so bright. I think he would make many good voting decisions in DC, unlike the current crop on the hill. When in doubt who to vote for, vote the incumbent out, even if the incumbent is Jim DeMint. I wouldn't lose any sleep over a Greene win. If Greene loses to DeMint, I hope he runs again for another office. I wonder how Greene feels about guns?

You're really going to vote for this guy? :D He's not even a keen unemployed person that's aware of what's going on. I'm 100% behind the "send the informed citizen to Washington" but this guy is the farthest thing from that. Furthermore, I'm telling you that this guy is a huge statist, though he's probably not even aware what a statist is.

If you're going to get behind a homeless person, this is the type of guy I would recruit for state office. Listen to this man Scooter Jolley. He's articulate and of a sound mind:
