DeMint is in serious trouble

No way this guy had 10k to plop down. And that suit, who's dressing him? Seriously?

Does anyone remember Bob Conley?

He was a Ron Paul Democrat that snuck in and won the Democratic primary in SC - went on to lose to Lindsey Graham unfortunately.

He came close, as I recall, with very little money.... I wish we'd known he really had a chance so we could have pushed him over the top. The bottom line should be that liberty candidates need to be funded, period. We need to become wealth enough to make sure of this.

I seriously do think this is just as it seems, that he was a plant to ensure DeMint's win.

I don't think anything went on bad with the voting, and I don't think anything went on much with a campaign either, again just like it seems. I personally think some Republicans found this guy, got him to agree to run for Senate, payed for his filing, and after that didn't do much else except hope he won by some stroke of luck.

I really wouldn't consider this wrong either, maybe not even the whole money issue because I don't think people should have to pay thousands of dollars to be able to run for a political office. It would be somewhat bad still though if there is some illegal stuff going on, and to me it seems like there is. I really doubt DeMint was involved however.

There are some suspensions in logic needed for this. In a year such as this, in SC no less, and this candidate, and with no campaign...yeah, even the GOP isn't stupid enough to waste 10,000$ on this. No one would throw money down on something like this, especially in the mood the country is in now. DeMint is as safe as safe can be.

The republicans have tons of money, and I can't see that guy having tons of money. Its easier for me to believe the republican party somewhere wasted money to get this guy's campaign started than to believe this guy is capable himself. He just appears extremely dense to me, and the idea of republicans in SC planting a democrat candidate wouldn't be a hard task really compared to other states. I mean for example in my precinct, there were only 2 democrats and around 100-120 republican voters. So no one would care if the republican party did something like that in SC really, at least not enough people to make it hard to pull off.

Plus he may have actually had some of the money himself, but not all of it. Someone may have talked him into spending like $4000-$7000 and letting someone else pay the rest. All it would take would be one wealthy person to back him. It wouldn't have to be like the official party itself, the money could come out of someone's pocket.

I mean its hilarious and has secured DeMint's victory even more than it already was, so someone may have thought it was worth several thousands dollars who knows lol...

All I'm saying is, its pretty funny and odd lol, and wouldn't be that impossible for him to be a plant lol.

i still think demint has a similar situation to harry reid...

This guy was so under-the-radar that I don't even accept the "blacks vote for blacks" excuse. Nobody knew this guy, what his skin color was, or how he would sound on TV or radio. If he actually had campaigned, it could have brought his numbers down.

I remember something similar to this happening in a school board race once, where an incumbent lost to someone that filed and never campaigned. It is possible.

Al Greene kind of reminds me of this guy Chaunce Gardner in the movie Being There

YouTube - Being There -My favorite crucial scenes

If you're going to get behind a homeless person, this is the type of guy I would recruit for state office. Listen to this man Scooter Jolley. He's articulate and of a sound mind:

YouTube - Chris Christie Town Hall

how demint runs from this point on is how demint gets re-elected...
not until demint knows WHY the voters did what they did does he run a
secure and solid campaign. this is the year of the upset and if a FB page or
a tweet put this guy over the top, ESPECIALLY if he was a groundling for Obama
in 2oo8... then maybe we should ignor for now how he sounds and ask who
his cyber~friends are! i think the voters are cutting loose inside the polling
booths and are trying to avoid the DINO/RINO herd animals as the net
changes the face and pace of our current day politics most totally!!!

$10,000 is a pittance to DeMint or more likely one of his wealthy backers. DeMint is as safe as safe can be sure, but you still run the campaign as if you might lose. That's how winners think. DeMint's people probably looked at the race and saw a competent but virtually unknown white judge as their opponent. They noticed he had a name which (Vic Rawl) suggested in no uncertain terms that he was white and saw an opportunity. Why not ask some nobody with very black sounding name (Alvin Greene) to run against him? In the predominantly black South Carolina Democratic electorate, that's a smart move. Odds are, given two candidates they don't know, black voters are going to pull the lever for the black name. And once you get an unknown Democratic black guy on the ballot as your challenger, you've won in a statewide election in South Carolina. I do think Alvin Greene shocked even the people behind his candidacy in terms of sheer awfulness. They probably didn't know about the weird felony pornography thing and if they did they'd probably have gone with someone else just to seem less obvious.

BTW- I don't see what was done as a "dirty trick" at all. This is what "Democracy" is and precisely why our founders didn't put in direct elections for either Senate or the Presidency. A congressional district is as big a physical area you can trust for direct Democracy to work and even that is probably too big.

I watched the interviews with Olberman and Shep Smith and they both make me sick. Why is it ok to be prejudiced against poor people? They were ambush interviews. Why does he deserve this treatment when he's an army veteran and the democratic nominee for senate?

I think the more interviews that air like this the more poor and black people will recognize the agenda of the media. They are yelling at him because they were too stupid to do their jobs right. It is insane. They may as well be saying this poor black man cannot win on his own without help from rich people.

They were ambush interviews.

Ambush interviews? Questions like "How did you campaign?" and "Do you have a campaign staff?" and "Where did you get the 10,000 dollars?" are ambush questions?

I am shocked by what I'm seeing in this thread. I'm thinking we have a lot of posters here that are hovering around the same intelligence level as Mr. Greene himself.

"Where did you get the 10,000 dollars?" are ambush questions?

That is insulting, it presupposes that the man can't happen to have 10k in savings. Or his parent had it to give to him. why would you assume that? If he was a white man would you be asking that question?

Wow, more insults. What do you know about the guy? Have you ever been on national tv? I bet he was nervous and probably unprepared, yet you insinuate that he is stupid? Why? Because he is a black man?

Bunch of racist liberals; can't handle it when a black man succeeds despite them.

charles sumner would have found this election to be intensely interesting, as rand got
raked over the coals about the CRA of 1964 that was more thorough than the CRA of 1875
that was more thorough than the CRA of 1866 that andrew johnson refused to sign. in a way,
we might see alvin greene's election as a vindication of both andrew johnson's and charles sumner's
stances, for i feel the voters have INTELLIGENTLY spoken in full and only jack hunter's radio/net*radio
popularity can SAVE jim demint's senate seat for him. until you all KNOW precisely why the voters did what
they did, DON'T assume! there has to have been a fast, intense word of mouth and a very bottled & pent up rage...

we have not seen a populism like this since the tyme of either huey long or william jennings bryan!

.

a week before our january election, scott brown and ms. martha coakley looked even in the polls.

trey grayson is looking totally puzzled, older, more mature and team player as he is now backing rand.

i had hoped adam kokesh would win in N.M and then john dennis rose up to challenge ms. pelosi...

I never said he was dumb because he's black. You're the one who drew that connection.

I said he was dumb because he can't form a complete sentence to a simple question.

Uhuh, sure.

I noticed you avoided my first question. Why do you assume he wouldn't have the money to file for office?
