Rand Paul debate preview: Hit Donald Trump harder

Careful, though. Trump changes with the wind.

Remember Rand attacking trump for "single payer?" Trump had just "recanted" that meme right before then.

Don't go in with a "attack" here, attitude. Have to be quick on feet.

Think through what is important, what is necessary, for the people, according to the Constitution. Then you will be ready for where ever the wind carries your prey.

That's what I keep saying. Trump is the all time king of brutal smackdowns. He has at least 50 withering insults on file before the debate even starts. That's why I say the way to defeat Hannibal is not to fight him.

Rand should just call Trump an asshole on live TV and get it over with. Might be Rand's last debate anyway, he's on the bubble now.

Rand previewing a Trump attack is one of the few ways inwhich he can get some real air time from the moderators. A strategic attack while also showing yourself as anti establishment, as spoken of by phil4paul 0, CaptUSA, & others.

That's a good point. I didn't think of it that way. I just don't think that it would be a good idea for Rand to interrupt like he did in the first debate. I think that's one of the things that voters didn't like about Rand's performance.

Rand will have to attack with class while laying down the smackdown. I think he is good for it, fingers crossed.

Thats the Scott Walker strategy... not working so well for him.

The attack is simple. "Public service." something Trump has NEVER done. Until, now. He's always played/payed both sides of the political fence. For personal game. Rand could have, and will, have a lucrative practice in medicine. He does pro-bono surgery even while serving the public. Trump has never done anything unless it proftted Trump.

Rand didn't really slip anymore than where he was at after the first debate, I don't know what the first few posters are talking about.

If Rand does attack Trump, I sure hope he's practiced his "attack mode" voice and body language since the last debate because the way he came off against both Christie & Trump - while solid in terms of substance - was a train wreck in terms of style.

Also, I know most of us don't give a lick about superficial aspects of Rand's or any other candidate's appearance, but a great many of the millions who'll be watching do (unconsciously for the most part), so here's to hoping he doesn't show up tomorrow night with the shaggy-wet hair and non-tailored suit he wore during the first debate.

From a reddit poster:

|I think Paul did lose a lot of support with the white people over 50 who are polled at this point in the race, but as a college student, stepping out against Christie and Trump FIRED UP the youth. I am president of a chapter of Students for Rand and I can tell you, a lot of people who want to join made their decisions by watching Rand stand up to Christie and Trump. You're not going to see that reflected right now because they aren't polling college students, but Students for Rand has been a HUGE success and there are a TON of young people fired up. There are chapters here in Iowa with over 400 members already. 336 chapters have been started in the last 30 days. The youth vote is present."

Trump and Carson are popular now because they're pushing red meat to morons and they have no tie to establishment politics.

That will never change. Unless someone attacks Trump, he will continue to lead. He will not implode, because an implosion would imply that his run is built on substance or at least the appearance of substance. It isn't. He's pandering to stupid people, he's pandering to racists, and he's pandering to people who just hate politicians.

The only way that Rand can beat him is to playfully paint Trump as a total buffoon, who cares more about his ego than anything else. Rand has to do all of this with a smile on his face because the serious guy will always lose to the bombastic jokester when playing to a room of idiots. Rand has to goad Trump into revealing himself to be a dick who has more in common with politicians than with people like us.

Trump, with his comb-over and oompaloompa tan was so much more appealing.

His favorables went way down after the first debate. The latest PPP poll in Iowa has Rand at like 27% favorable and 50% unfavorable.

I think you're being too kind to Trump voters to think that would cause them to re-think their stance.

Rand should go in armed with amazingly witty insults to hurl at Trump regarding his hair, and he should be prepared for Trump to fire an insult back about hair. He should hurl insults at Trump about his orange skin, and the awful hat he's been wearing.

He should repeatedly draw parallels between Trump and Kim Kardashian.

And he should end every insult with some statement about how he reserves his actual policy discussion for the people on stage who haven't used eminent domain to force working class people out of their family homes and businesses.

That's how you beat Trump. You don't quote the Constitution. You don't call him a fake conservative. You attack his image and ego. If you do that repeatedly he will implode.

"There's a clown on stage who covers his Riff Raff from Rocky Horror hair with the worst hat I've ever seen, a man who shares skin cream with oompaloompas, who took the same path to popularity as Kim Kardashian. He's a reality TV joke, who shouldn't even be allowed to debate until he fesses up to using eminent domain to force working families out of their homes and small businesses. Moderator, ask that clown what he thinks of eminent domain. Does he still want to use it to kick families out of their homes?"

... maybe Rand should just tag me to handle Trump.

Other lines Rand could consider:

"You tweet more than my teenage sons. Do you need attention that bad?"
"You called Carly ugly, are you the only billionaire who never bought a mirror?"
"You're crashing harder than Trump Airlines tonight"
"You're gaining some weight, soon you might look like Christie haha, I'm only kidding you look great for a 70 year old who hasn't had to do any physical labor in his entire life"

Wasn't because of the debate. It was because of MSM. You weren't here in 2007 but you were in 2011. You know how the game is played by the game players. It took Ron the numerous debates so that we, his supporters, could get the clips to spread influence through social media. Rand got some great exposure, not to mention more than two minutes of question answer in a one hour debate, by taking the fight to other candidates. If he doesn't keep pressing then he'll, as per the Paul's, get the least debate answer/presence. He really has no other choice.

Glad to see you back around. Been awhile. As usual your input is....

This is local and therefore subjective. I've noticed Trump stickers and window paints on vehicles of late. Most of these individuals like his "Give 'em hell attitude." Doesn't matter that they don't know a single position by him or his support for Democrat candidate when it suited him.
There is nothing wrong with attacking Trump. As long as he attacks others.
I hate to say it but this is the year of the fed up and bombastic. It reaches just about every primary voter.
If you are not seen as a fighter you will lose.
This is Trumps game without substance. Without actual legislative participation.

Rand needs to be able to say to Trump, on X issue, "I have done <this.> What have YOU done. You've done nothing. You had a reality TV show. Just like when you were called to service and received an exemption you've never served the American people. I've been in the trenches in Washington. Fighting the Washington Machine. You've been paying off politicians on both sides for personal gain."

Less than 30 seconds. Kill shot.

I approve

Bold colors in lieu of pale pastels. I haven't heard anything about the classified 28 pages, noninterventionist foreign policy, reducing mandatory minimum sentencing, expanding the party, or the federal reserve in a loooong time. You draw attention to yourself by being different and sticking to it. The moderators will call upon everyone one by one to disagree with him, but he needs to stay the course - evoke Reagan when it suits his needs. Kasich, Carson, and Cruz will join on some of those points drawing some of the disagreement among them, but only Rand will contain the entire package.

That would be great. +1
