Rand Paul debate preview: Hit Donald Trump harder

I suspect anyone who invokes Reagan tomorrow night will be challenged immediately.

...
Heading into the 2016 campaign, Donald Trump, the GOP's front-runner, is calling for the deportation of millions back to their countries of origin, proposed doing away with birthright citizenship and promised to build a wall along the entire border with Mexico. Others have condemned amnesty. As a presidential contender, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker reversed his position on providing a pathway to citizenship to undocumented immigrants. Even Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who helped guide a comprehensive immigration bill through the Senate, has backed away from that legislation, even though he still supports the policies within it.

Families like the Paradas have watched the rise of Trump and other Republican contenders closely.

"They speak so much of Ronald Reagan. But when it comes to immigration, they try to hide it somehow and don't talk about it," Parada, who has thrived in the U.S. in the construction business, said. "A lot of people disagreed with his idea back then too, but he did it anyway."

Reagan, Parada added, "is a hero for a lot of people. He is for me."

Bold colors in lieu of pale pastels. I haven't heard anything about the classified 28 pages, noninterventionist foreign policy, reducing mandatory minimum sentencing, expanding the party, or the federal reserve in a loooong time. You draw attention to yourself by being different and sticking to it. The moderators will call upon everyone one by one to disagree with him, but he needs to stay the course - evoke Reagan when it suits his needs. Kasich, Carson, and Cruz will join on some of those points drawing some of the disagreement among them, but only Rand will contain the entire package.

Boobus Republicanus doesn't have any idea, or if they do, give a shit about "the classified 28 pages, noninterventionist foreign policy, reducing mandatory minimum sentencing, expanding the party, or the federal reserve." Honestly.

Rand should save those topics for Carson, Jeb, Walker, Rubio, and Carly.

No Trump supporter cares what Trump thinks. They just like him because he insults politicians and people involved in politics.

To those suggesting that Rand should be posing questions to Trump... Trump is the king of one-liners, and he hits back ten times as hard. If you need to attack him, fine, but do not give him the chance to speak, to the extent that you can control. Anybody remember when Romney asked Obama a question in the Candy Crowley debate? That turned out horribly for Romney, and Trump hits way harder than Obama...

Wasn't because of the debate. It was because of MSM. You weren't here in 2007 but you were in 2011. You know how the game is played by the game players. It took Ron the numerous debates so that we, his supporters, could get the clips to spread influence through social media. Rand got some great exposure, not to mention more than two minutes of question answer in a one hour debate, by taking the fight to other candidates. If he doesn't keep pressing then he'll, as per the Paul's, get the least debate answer/presence. He really has no other choice.

If Rand feels that he has to go after Trump and the other candidates, I hope that he figures out how to do it while looking better on stage. He needs to be the "happy warrior," as others have mentioned. His numbers did go down after the first debate because people didn't like how he came across on the debate stage, with all the smirks, eye rolls, interruptions, yelling, etc. If he's going to go after Trump, he needs to do it in a calm and collected way.

Rand should just call Trump an asshole on live TV and get it over with. Might be Rand's last debate anyway, he's on the bubble now.

next debate will have 8 at the big table, at most. maybe 6 or 7. Rand should be hitting Walker, Carly and Christie.

His numbers did go down. NOT because of the debate. M$M. M$M. M$M. Am I painting a picture? It was only one debate. The debates allow social media the "gotcha" moments to shop around. Just like his dad's performances did. We know full and well Rand, even if polling at 90%, would never get a beak on M$M. It's not in their, their owners, interests. It's the clips that go viral on social media that matter. Without clips.....

If history is any guide he'll double down. As the memory of his dad's 30+ years of work fades away.

Rand is in danger of becoming a buffoon. A laughingstock. He might want to start listening to professional advice. And if he's dumb enough to concentrate on Trump again he better be good. And he's just not. That's the problem.

And another thing. The debate "moderators" never ask Rand about policy positions that he is relavent on. So take the debate to them.

Simply state, after the chosen one get's to speak, quickly... "I have an answer and an actual legislative proposal for that question if the moderator would choose to let me speak."

This happens enough times people are gonna say.."Let him speak."

And...where was he wrong in his assessment of GMO labeling, he didn't say it was an "Attack", he said it would cost them more on their grocery dime. It would. Sounds like a whole new wonderful department of regulators and a czar to top it off. Quit throwing red paint on people that chose to wear animal hides.

I didn't realize that favoring mandatory GMO labeling is a key component of Ron's legacy ;)

Many, many countries have GMO labeling--if memory serves the U.S. is one of only a few developed nations that doesn't.

And I agree with King Nothing and the Kill Shot guy's zingers. If he is going to attack, he needs to bring his A-game.

What is the cost to the manufacturers that is passed on to the consumers which affects the least able to spend? Many, many, countries have some fucked up bullshit that increases the bottom line to the consumer. Most of that cost goes from the consumer to a regulatory agency of the government. Multitudes of offices, with officers, eating out the substance of the average man.

Please, don't get me started on the usage of the word/phrase of "developed."

Rand Paul needs to talk more about his platform, and less about the other candidates in the race.

I was a big supporter of Rand Paul early on.
I still like his positions on the role of government, the national debt, the NSA, etc.

However, he has not capitalized on his strengths at all.
He threw a very good opportunity in the trash by talking about issues that don't matter, and getting in pointless fights with Trump and Christie.

Sadly, he has made himself look very small, petty, shrill, and outmatched by the way he has conducted himself. It is sad to think of what could have been. But he has come across as unpresidential, which is really the ultimate test when running for president.

I like Paul and agree with 95% of his beliefs.

But he does not seem to want to deport illegals and is relatively soft on foreign policy. We really need to enforce immigration laws (really) and cannot mess around with wacko countries like Iran getting nukes.

Trump is an A hole, but we may need an A hole right about now. If he seals the border, deports illegals and plays hardball with Iran then I do not care if he acts like a fifth grader.

I also was a huge Rand supporter. Your sentiments mirror mine exactly. I can't believe what a lousy campaign he has run. He lost me when he denounced the Confederate flag as " a symbol of oppression and slavery". He obviously does not share his dad's view on that subject. He also turned me off by dwelling on the theme that the GOP needs to be "more inclusive" while ignoring the fact that minority GOP candidates win in white districts all the time. He promotes a false narrative and I no longer trust him.

Rand has been operating on ill-formed political calculations.
He's focused about issues that might help him marginally in the general election, but are frankly not of much interest to Republican primary voters. Issues like prison reform and some very un-libertarian ideas about forcing private businesses to interview at least one minority candidate for each job opening.

He's spent the better part of the last several years trying to kiss up to the GOP Establishment, rather than taking them on. Overall, he has simply made some bad calculations which I like to think are not true to who he really is.

Guys I understand the strategy of whether to attack or not, but to say that the support that Rand has is simply going to up and leave him just because he attacked Trump is absurd..

People who are saying that never really supported him in the first place.

Bullshit. You've been sucking on the Trump Stump since he entered. Trumps popular because he buys into the "Give 'em Hell" attitude. Nothing more. He has no positions. He is a Democrat supporter. Millions worth when it profited him.

I may be a fool, you are not fooling anyone. GTF on down the road Jack.
You are full of shit. Name one time where I stumped for Trump, asshole. I mean actually stumping, not evaluating strategy. You won't. You can't.
