Rand Paul debate preview: Hit Donald Trump harder

The evidence that it's a bad strategy is that it didn't help Rand's numbers, nor hurt Trump's. I'm not saying attacking Trump will always be a bad idea, but when and how Rand did it was a very poor course of action.

Correlation does not indicate causation.

For all we know Rand's numbers would have been even worse if he didn't attack Trump in the first debate.

It is a waste of time to talk to or about Donald Trump. Rand won't get as much time anyway, so he better use it to his own advantage.

Then they should fucking love Rand when he attacks a man that had power handed to him as a kid and never had anyone shove the fact that he is one big liar that has never spoken a word of truth in his life and never been challenged.
Are you really this dense? Trump is perceived as a man who talks truth to power and who sticks it to the establishment, and has monopolized the anti-establishment vote on account of that. Because of this, anyone who attacks him looks like a part of the establishment. Attacking Trump doesn't make Rand look like an honest truth-to-power speaker, it makes him look like just another insider.

I'm not saying Rand attacking Trump caused his decline, I'm saying it didn't stop the decline, or hurt Trump at all. Hence, it is a failed strategy.

Yes and Rand needs to show them that their "Perception" of Trump is totally wrong and if they can't see that Trump IS the very power they hate then they aren't worth the powder to blow them to hell.

I for one am expecting some Ron Paul style truth bombs tomorrow. It doesn't take more than 5 minutes to do real damage.

Dear America: The government is lying to you about terrorism. I have read classified documents that implicate our supposed allies -Saudi Arabia- in the funding of the 9/11 attacks. Why are our boys dying in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, and Libya?

Dear America: The surveillance state is not searching for terrorists. The Boston Marathon bombers had no trouble escaping surveillance. The surveillance state is searching for Patriots. Because only Patriots will dare to stand up against corruption.

Well, a man can dream anyhow.

Bullshit. It was one debate and the MSM were in full Trump mode.

You should petition the site owner for a "Stump for Trump" icon.

DO NOT ATTACK HIS MILITARY CAREER. Rand never served either. That is a BAD strategy.

That simply isn't true. The power Trump supposedly speaks truth to are the Washington elite. Trump is a rent-seeking businessman, but he is not a Washington insider. Not only that, he's turned his rent-seeking status to his advantage to buttress his anti-establishment image. Attacking him makes whoever does it look like an establishment hack.

Trump is popular because republican leadership sucks, Rand basically attacked Trump for not toting the party line which is what people are sick of. Rand should attack Trump on guns and taxes, people wont support Karl Roves lapdog

Trump will always be the biggest news maker unless he drops out.

You're a complete fool. I'm not "stumping" for Trump or anyone, I'm evaluating strategy. Rand Paul's campaign has been facile, whereas Trump's has been very effective so far. This is just an objective fact.

Immigration is the ONLY reason anybody is supporting Trump. He's promised to deport all illegals within 2 years. This is the free market at work, Trump is taking a position wildly supported by voters and profiting immensely from it. It's totally bizarre and illogical that no other candidate is on the bandwagon with him. It's suicidal in fact. Instead of going with the will of the people, they are irrationally taking a stance that practically no one supports.

It's like Trump is the one lemming that doesn't jump off the cliff, the only one not removing himself from the gene pool. What I want to know is WHY Rand isn't taking a firm stance against illegal immigration? Why is he bending over backwards to appease Latino groups?

Because having a mass deportation of all illegal immigrants would dramatically expand the size and power of the federal government.

Wasn't it Ron Paul who said we should put the military on the southern border to stop illegals pouring in?

That's a separate issue. Rand supports securing the borders as well. But regarding what to do with those who are already here illegally, having a mass deportation of all illegal immigrants is in no way feasible and would dramatically expand the police state in America if it were ever attempted.

Rand previewing a Trump attack is one of the few ways inwhich he can get some real air time from the moderators. A strategic attack while also showing yourself as anti establishment, as spoken of by phil4paul 0, CaptUSA, & others.

This is exactly what he's doing. He won't need to jump into anything tomorrow night, the moderators will do that for him. In the meantime, rump will be spending most of his time trying to prove he's a real conservative, which he can't do without talking like a politician.

My prediction? Trump is going to flame out soon. It won't be Rand that does it, but when it happens, many of the GOP voters will remember who it was that warned them. Rand is playing the long game here. This is the type of strategy that the pundits will dismiss and the knee-jerk reactionaries in here will decry, but it will end up paying dividends soon.

When the sheep start getting attacked by the wolf, they will remember the one that tried to pull off the wool early on.

I just hope it plays out that way. While Trump will probably flame out, I'm not sure what kind of opinion voters will be left with of him. Whatever happens, Trump will probably have a significant impact on the rest of the primary (assuming he drops out) and the general. Although I'm not convinced that he's destined to lose!

The opinion they will have in the end is that he's just like all the rest, if not worse.

Bullshit. You've been sucking on the Trump Stump since he entered. Trumps popular because he buys into the "Give 'em Hell" attitude. Nothing more. He has no positions. He is a Democrat supporter. Millions worth when it profited him.

I may be a fool, you are not fooling anyone. GTF on down the road Jack.
