Official 11.11.11 Planning Thread - 17,000 Pledges - Decentralize Facebook Promotion

A thing of beauty. Just a moment ago every single ad on my facebook homepage was for some Ron Paul cause or another. I know its because I've "liked" Ron Paul, but it still makes me happy.

You mean Ron's official facebook page? They've never sone anything like that before.

What's the status on emailing all the BTO pledges for this moneybomb? Who is responsible for getting that email out? Is there a letter written that we could adapt or do we need to write one?

For the big moneybombs of 2007, Trevor used to send out DAILY emails to the pledge list with an update on the number of pledges. Can we get that going this time? It doesn't have to be huge, just a quick reminder. It helps keep people engaged. Here's the actual This November 5 email on the day of:

I waited until I had all the image banners done and the new Facebook strategy up on the first post before contacting WD-NY about sending out an email. I did it a couple hours ago, so I'll probably hear back from him today about it. While I'm at work, could you please keep that strategy thread bumped that I posted?

Got the message Sentinel - I'll send it out early tomorrow

TexMac, thanks for digging up those old 2007 Trevor Lyman emails! I did a search in my gmail and was able to locate them all

I must say, the numbers in 2007 are rather mind-boggling. The email updates consistently announce 2,000-3,000+ new 'pledgers/subscribers' per day. That's incredible. On the very best 2 days of BTO, we had ~1,800 (10/18) and ~2,300 (10/19).

That said, I'm still confused as to why we're using feedburner as the email update system for SupportThemNow when we can very easily create a new list in within mailchimp. We've already reached the 10,000-20,000 subscriber threshold ($150/month) with 11,079 subscribers to BTO so it would've made a difference in terms of cost.

The other issue/head-scratcher is that not using mailchimp effectively nullifies one of the central strategies laid out during BTO planning... i.e. that we should centralize our money bomb efforts into a single email/subscriber list so that all future money bombs could take advantage of all the hard work put into promoting the previous MBs instead of starting from square one.

I think dusman posted that mailchimp and the other things like the leaderboard wouldn't work on the website we have for SupportTheTroops.

We had scripts that ran on FB and MySpace so we were able to invite EVERYONE who liked Ron Paul. We don't seem to have that this time.

Anyone have an idea of how many responses from the smaller facebook events?

Mine has 99 right now.

Can we get a running total? Maybe links to all the smaller events on the main website? With totals next to the links? Then we can see how we are doing in a centralized location? Seeing a large growing total gets people excited. Right now all we know for sure is the 500 pledges on the main page. If we want the campaign to take notice and email their lists - we need to show support.

Having links and totals to all the events in a centralized location allows us to accomplish that, and still retain the benefits of decentralized facebook events.

I like that idea, actually. I'll see what I can do.

When has this been promoted since? I only heard of it now through an e-mail sent to me from RPF a day or so ago.
