And think about all the negative coverage Rand has been getting. The fact that he's in 6th is pretty freaking impressive. Everyone else just gets positive or neutral coverage. This really shows you that it won't be easy for them to take Rand down. This is what scares them.

these things have like 3.5% margins of error either way, with most the field in single digits that makes a lot of difference from poll to poll. It's kind of messed up it is being used as criteria for the debates considering how close these margins are and the unreliability of the polls. We really need some people to drop out of this race, it is ridiculous.

almost all of them are slanted towards landlines...the one in the OP's link was 60% landline...most of them are 80% landline, and the ones you mentioned are 100% landline.

Thus, all results are skewed.

This poll says nothing different than the polls before the debate. Rand was receiving between 3 and 6% for the week or two before the first debate. The only poll having him below 3% appears to be only the 0.8% he received from Gravis Marketing (which has a shotty reputation).

That's the quirky thing about forums. They attract the people nationally who are the most intensely emotional about the subject in a manic-depressive way and need an outlet. So everything is exaggerated.

Rand should talk more about his plans to preserve social security. People who paid in obviously want their money back, and it would be a good area of common ground with those older voters.

He can scare older people by saying that if we dont balance the debt, they will get less or lose social security and medicare. Gotta stop policing world and reform both social and corporate welfare. Hes the only one with a plan to balance budget in 5 years.

People respond to fear and emotions more than reasoning and rationality. Neocons scare people into bombing brown people. Rand can scare people into not bombing people and scare them into reducing government.

Rand wants to raise the retirement age and do means testing. It might be hard to persuade old voters with this plan when other candidates oppose both.

They have been telling people Social Security is going broke for over 40 years; it's hogwash. If they stopped taking money out of social security like Bush did to fund his sicko wars, there would be no excuse for continuing to claim ss is going broke. I do believe Rand has said that government welfare has to stop before or at the same time as social programs has to stop....this may be the way to approach the issue. My personal opinion is that a society as rich as this country should be providing for the elders...I am part of the baby boomer generation and contrary to all of the propaganda about the selfish generation, we are the ones who provided for the generation before us, and the so-called great generation, through working, and also take care of the worthless nonworking younger generation, plus took to the streets to oppose the Vietnam war and in support of the civil rights movement. I challenge the younger generation to match those actions. We have been the ones funding ss and the social programs for everyone else and now that we are aging, we're running out of money? I don't think so.

They have been taking money out of the fund since Eisenhower (he actually used it for interstate construction projects and then actually returned the money at a later date!). It's only a matter of time before SS becomes emptied, thanks to a skewed population age.

People living longer, having fewer children, baby boomers reaching retirement and health care costs rising more than inflation are why entitlements are in trouble. The cost of the Iraq war was a little over a trillion dollars over 15 years. That is peanuts. That is nothing compared to these programs. The programs have always been a ponzi scheme but we have always just grown our way out. All of the forces I listed in first sentence are why this is a huge issue now.

Medicare is underfunded by $200 trillion. This is the only issue that actually matters in terms of the country's financial future.

I really don't care what Rand says to get elected. But these programs need to be means tested and the age of eligibility need to be dealt with today as a minimum compromise to get momentum on the issue. Transitioning from defined benefit to defined contribution with Social Security is a no brainer. And benefits should be gradually reduced and use market forces whenever possible to make the programs more efficient.

These programs are not compassionate. They are generational theft. They are stealing. People did not pay in. These old people are not these wonderful saints. They are, as John Stossel calls them, greedy geezers.
