To what extent would you go to in order to protect your child? One Oklahoma mother was willing to shoot a man if she had too, and it came down to just that. 18-year-old Sarah McKinley was spending a quiet night at home with her baby on New Years eve. Still grieving after loosing her husband to cancer on Christmas, the last thing she wanted was any visitors. Instead she received some very unwanted visitors.

She started hearing someone trying to break into her house, she then noticed two men (who she recognized) with a large 12 knife trying to forcibly enter her home. Quickly she brought her baby into a room, gave him a bottle, grabbed a 12-gauge shotgun and called 911. McKinley asked the 911 operator to send police and for permission to shoot the intruders. That's right, mom was ready to shoot a fool.

The dispatcher told her she couldn't shoot unless he forcibly enters her home, and that she needs to do what she has to do to protect the baby. That's exactly what McKinley did when her door came flying open, she shot and killed 24-year-old Justin Martin.

I'm glad the intruder was stopped, but I have to point out the person doing the video broke one of the most important rules of gun safety by telling her to point the gun at him/her so as to get a dramatic shot.

It might seem like a small issue, but virtually every firearm accident is caused by disregarding these rules.

Good on her. My 10 month old is sleeping beside me (she's sick so she gets special treatment tonight) and there's nothing I wouldn't do to protect her.

She did the right thing; however, when you have to ask a E911 dispatcher if you can shoot someone, you need some training regarding your state laws on lawful defense. This is why I also advise people to take a quality firearm safety and legal course.

Very true. Before using a deadly weapon you need to know how to use it and to weight the risks. I have a gun here at home, but I'm too afraid to use it because I know even if it's in self defense I can by tried for murder...

... it's that kind of thing which you have very little time to think about. It basically comes down to the subject or the victim. Some states are friendlier than others when it comes to the use of deadly force. That's a choice I hope I will never have to make.

Oh I'll use it if my life or the life of my baby is threatened. Sad thing is here in Spain I'll probably get charged with various things: murder, unlawful use of a weapon, possession of an unregistered firearm, importation of a prohibited weapon, possession of ammunition without a license, child endangerment, etc.

Good for her. Bastard deserved it.

I was expecting a video of the shooting though.

Gun laws and laws regarding self defense in general in most of Europe are insane.

All of our rights hinge on the 2nd Amendment, if the government ever manages to take our guns we are finished.
