URGENT * DEADLINE 7/28 MIDNIGHT* Grassroots Talent Needed for FULL PAGE Iowa ad

I'd strongly suggest against using an ad that focuses on "Jesus Christ is my savior". As Ron said his faith is a very personal matter, I think it best to keep it that way. There's many more compelling reasons to vote for him.

That was my first reaction too.. but I went with it anyway since it seems to target Iowa voters the best.... but in reality I think you're right however beliefs and values really matter to Iowa voters.

I can't tell if anyone paid much attention to what MJU1983 posted:
http://www.scribd.com/doc/61016593/Document-2

but, I REALLY, REALLY like using the quotes in the add:

"Ron Paul is one of the outstanding leaders fighting for a stronger national defense. As a former Air Force officer, he knows well the needs of our armed forces, and he always puts them first. We need to keep him fighting for our country." ~ Ronald Reagan, 40th President of the United States ~

"I try to go for the candidates that line up mostly with the values, the principles of the founders. Out of all the candidates in this cycle, I found Ron Paul to be the one with the longest, most consistent voting record to back up those principles and concepts." ~ Cory Adams, Story County Iowa GOP Chairman~

“Ron Paul has been a consistent voice for individual rights and constitutional conservatism. He predicted this Great Recession while most laughed at the idea, and he is now the strongest and clearest voice on how to return to sound economic principles. Dr. Paul has a record spanning more than 30 years of consistent, principled votes. We need Ron Paul in the White House.” ~ Rep. Jason Schultz (R-*Schleswig), Iowa House of Representatives’ 55th District~

I think they do several things: They clarify what Ron Paul's all about. And they add significant political clout. Reagan? Always a positive feeling associated with him (at least how it seems to me). Chairman of the GOP in Story Co? Kinda self explanatory for why this is great.

But the quotes should be extra. I think the rest of the add should be minimalist. The adds that have the least on them are the most outstanding. A jewelry in my hometown used to run an add that was entirely clean except for a border and some text in the center: "First Avenue Jewelry (this is how clear our diamonds are)". Currently a pizza business in Ames runs some pretty catchy minimalist adds. Here's one of them:

Out of the many adds I've seen, these are the two I really remember. Other adds are more informative (e.g. the weeks specials) but are much less MEMORABLE. I will say the collage one from 4 years ago is probably an exception :)

Anywho, I kinda had a vision after I initially started writing this post and decided to create it.

Here's one variation:

A couple others are at:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10826233/RP-d1.jpg
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10826233/RP-d2.jpg

I notice the color of the background looks bad in my browser but if I download the images and open them in on my computer they look the way I intended.

And here's the Photoshop file so somebody can hopefully IMPROVE it, ESPECIALLY the background and probably the fonts:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10826233/RP.psd

Obviously it looks kind of plain right now, but with an excellent background, excellent use of some Eagles, etc (without becoming distracting) - I think it could be really great.

I'm hoping someone with more graphic design abilities than me can take it from here, provided people here like the concept.

Thanks Razmear and yes that's the plan. The PAC will check them out and then will submit the final choice - the WINNER to so speak - to Ames. I will check on that and post here. Michael - ronpaulhawaii - is on the PAC advisory Board.

Remember everyone, we're submitting our ideas to the PAC who will make the final selaction. It makes, sense, then, for each general design to contain a few versions with different text - some with quotes, some with bullet points, some with faith elements/some without, so the PAC has plenty of variations on a common design theme from which to choose.

Consideration regarding the Christian emphasis of adds. I don't think this is where his strengths lie. It's not how he stands above the rest. His stance and knowledge on liberty, economics, his high character, and common sense are what I think are his greatest strengths and are what draw me too him.

Also consider that while Iowa is very Christian, Ames is pretty progressive. I feel like that matters less here. I mean it matters but other things about presidential candidates are more important. Most readers will be from Ames, I would think. Are Ames area residents the target audience?

This was mentioned early on in the thread, and needs bringing up again.

Given the continued rise in tenor over the debt ceiling talks, I'm wondering if some of the submissions to the PAC should focus entirely on this topic.

Maybe something to the tune of Reagan's famous "There You Go Again" line, but this time pointing out how Congress is failing, again, to make substantive direction changes in favor of reducing our debt, deficits, and spending. Basically reinforcing his 'Compromise' tv ad.

We need to keep in mind though, by the time of the straw poll, we will be passed the Aug. 2nd "deadline". So that may not be the best issue to focus on depending on what happens between now and then.

All of the ideas so far look GREAT!

Just a thought... A lot of people these days have Blackberries, iphones, Droids, etc... what about integrating a small QR Code into the ad? Something that people could scan with their smartphones that would take them to a the campaign site, or another page with more in depth information on Dr. Paul. Basically, I'm trying to think of how we can add depth to the ad.

What I mean by that is this: I doubt that many people will pay much attention to an ad that is just full of text. So I think a simpler approach is better, with some nice graphics and the key points (like the concepts already put forth in this thread). But, at the same time, if possible I think it would be good if we could integrate another level into the ad, so that people who want to know more, can go deeper easily.

For example, this ad:

Ron's picture is made up of text. Though I appreciate the subtlety of using the Constitution, what about using that text to give more information about Dr. Paul? In that way we can have a nice looking ad, that people will see and at first look get the points we are trying to make, but it will also give those who want more information the opportunity to "go deeper" by reading the text that makes up the image.

The QR code is just a perhaps simpler idea toward that same end - adding depth to the advertisement so that it provides as much information as possible to those who want it, but isn't overwhelming to those who glance at it. Thoughts?

The QR code is an excellent idea!

For this one:

Poll facts for text:

Obama 41%, Ron Paul 37%, Rassmussen Polls, Friday, July 22, 2011

Ron is 4 points behind Obama second only to Romney who is 1 point ahead of Obama. All others do worse than Ron.

Ron Paul 50%, Obama 50% Harris Interactive Poll July 26, 2011

Ron is behind Guiliani and Romney neither of whom are conservative.

This could just be background for what is said in the ad (in case asked) or could be incorporated as discussed above in comments (based on Rasmussen, CNN and Harris polls)

Ron Paul polls best against Obama of current or proposed GOP field, CNN Poll, May 5, 2011

There have been others, but that should be enough.

Thanks Georgia Boy. This will definitely make things easier on us.

I think at this point it would be good for someone to start a separate thread just for design submissions. I imagine that would be best done by sunny, who kick-started this effort. It should include a note at the top linking to this thread for discussion, but that thread should be as clean as possible for presenting to the main Advisory Board.

(and FTR - DeborahK is a member of the Grassroots Council for RevPAC, she and I are doing our best to keep an eye on this effort and relay developments. Needless to say the work being done here is amazing and inspiring. Ron Paul Grassroots vs. Obama's Billion - the fight is on! )

Onward!

We should also make a poll to see which one is the most popular here. I'm sure Revolution PAC will choose the one they like the best. However, if we do a poll here it may help them in their decision.

Bearing in mind that the goal is to reach undecideds in a specific market; that of 50+ conservatives who are likely to vote in the caucus. A fellow grassroots supporter who works in advertising did an analysis for us.
