URGENT * DEADLINE 7/28 MIDNIGHT* Grassroots Talent Needed for FULL PAGE Iowa ad

I'm really digging the Faith.Liberty.Life pic with the Checkmark (remember to add text that it is not affiliated with the campaign)..

However, I'm afraid it's too dark - it would look great as a glossy poster - but remember we're dealing with newspaper weight paper and ink - even a full color ad, unless there was a deal saying this is on better paper that I missed in this thread - I'm afraid of so much dark space.

I'm a bigger fan of where d1sCo is going for that reason, but maybe it can incorporate some of the ideas of the Faith.Liberty.Life.. or maybe there's a way to bring light to F.L.L.?

I like these two myself.

Do you guys think that the Romulus ad is too dark of a background? This is newspaper ink after all. What if, instead of a black background, there was a a constitution, "We the People", a mosaic, or something else with very little opacity?

I'd also like to see a few more text color variations in Disco's ad.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Here's an updated version.... thoughts?

I understand the concerns about this printing on newsprint. However since it is an insert, chances are it will done on gloss stock. I will look into this today to see how its being produced just in case the deciders like it, that the final product will up to par.

Totally. They should read it and be convinced to vote for Dr. Paul at the Ames Straw Poll. It's a newspaper...and most people I know that read newspapers actually READ them. They aren't browsing them to look at the ads.

The audience is what we have to consider when creating any advertising or commercials. In this case much of the audience will have made their voting decision prior to arriving or hearing any of the candidates. A smaller number will be open to hearing the candidates message and may be swayed. This ad, by itself, has little or no chance of swaying any voters.

The information that can be put in a print ad of this size will not be sufficient to cover all bases that might sway voters. This ad should instead cover the most important topics as highlighted or bullet-ed points. The ad needs to be visually appealing as well. Then, with any good fortune, the printed spot may reinforce what the potential voter has heard from our candidate... and, that reinforcement will help change their vote and remind them why they voted when they take the printed piece home with them.

This is also a tabloid insert to the paper... picture the advertising sections in the Sunday paper... printed in color and on different paper than the 'regular' newspaper. So, the printing medium is a bit different and will handle colors better than standard newsprint. It leaves the designer open to more options when it comes to color and coverage.

Right on Tarzan, most likely it will be printed on gloss stock since its an insert. I'm going to try and verify this today.

be careful about soliciting too much input on a project like this...

often times, the original and simplest concept is the best way to go....

when you start adding too many "spices"....you end up aborting the baby itself.

KISS....= Keep It Simple Stupid

I really like the "The only CONSERVATIVE who can beat Obama" line......Forget the CNN stuff....Just state it as fact

Remember that this ad has to be more than something WE think looks cool. It needs to be something that will convince Iowa Republicans to vote for Ron Paul.

Yeah. Visually I really like a few of these, but I want to add facts they don't know that are the reason he is polling under some of the others. For example, how he polls against Obama is something people don't realize, and Bachmann does poorly against Obama.

I like this one either with no comments under 'The only Conservative who can beat Obama', or with 'based on' the polls (not according to the polls since CNN has Ron polling best but still behind O while Rasmussen has Ron 2d best to Romney, who is not conservative, but not beating O. Harris also has Ron behind only non conservatives, but tied with O) or with 'The Conservative who can best beat Obama' and the poll dates (which I will grab this morning):

The big nose one is a really good format, but I'd ad text on the social security plan, not mushy stuff about being free which I don't think will sway anyone because they will all have good nonspecific fluff, the others excel at that. Our guy has substance.

The one with the face made out of the Constitution doesn't work quite as well for me, but I am reacting to it being so pale in color, and might feel differently if his face didn't strike me as 'washed out' kinda. I do like the information it gives, and I do like the concept of making his face out of the Constitution.

I think our guy polls under some where it makes no sense because people don't know a handful of facts about him, and I think we should address one or more of those.

Lol. You guys are all my official editing team.

How's this?

I like this one best still only add the wording that Nate suggested below and take "according to cnn etc.." off. If it must be on there somewhere, maybe change it to "Confirmed by CNN & Rassmusen"

Again, I would not put 'confirmed' for the reasons of technical accuracy, but we could defend 'Based on CNN, Rasmussen and Harris polls' He polls better than any conservative against Obama, he just is a few points shy of winning or is tied, but based on those polls when the GOP unites after the primary, I think they show he'd win, unless Obama does something for his own image.

I'm just going to throw my 2 in here: when pictures are chosen for things like full page ads and billboards, we have to be careful about how Ron is portrayed. Opposition will, no doubt, make an issue out of his age. In the faith ad for example, he looks toothless. One of the other ads defines every single wrinkle and fold on his face. As supporters, we see beyond all that because we aren't your average voter. We already know he's physically fit and definitely up to the job. But, we have to think in terms of visual reactions from the average Iowan voter. I am not opposed to photoshopping out a few wrinkles here and there. I'm not talking about making him look 20 years younger either. I'm talking about doing a professional job of making our man look as good as possible. Don't think for a minute the other candidates' ad campaigns aren't doing the same thing. If he looks too old or haggard, it WILL put voters off, even at a subliminal level. And the opposition will capitalize on it.

Thanks Razmear and yes that's the plan. The PAC will check them out and then will submit the final choice - the WINNER to so speak - to Ames. I will check on that and post here. Michael - ronpaulhawaii - is on the PAC advisory Board.

How about just "CNN 2011 & Rasmussen 2011" then? More specific dates of course...

Agreed. The faith page a couple posts back is the best so far if feel, yet the pic needs to look a little younger. i too seen ron with no teeth. It should not matter but it does and we need to deal with it. not ask iowa to deal with it.

I suggest this pic for that ad.

My problem is with accuracy and not handing an issue to someone. That implies they state that. I think 'based on' is correct. Still, I guess it's better than 'according to'.

I would use based on, though. I think having the polls mentioned makes it more than fluff, but then some will look them up, and we want them to.

It's tempting to jam the space with info...it's also tempting to make a collectors item for Ron Paul supporters.
This time we have a PAC. This time he has name recognition. Simple and clear. I would make an honest & direct appeal for votes in the Iowa Straw Poll. This is just a brainstorm:

WHY
RON PAUL?
(filling the entire page top 1/2)
Talk to your friends and family... (smaller text - but still large)

(below in smaller print, classic bullet points about Dr. Paul and a few biographical details.)
“Ron Paul is a man whose time has come,”
- Ms. Coppess, Huckabee '08 supporter (NYT) (larger text quote from recent NYT not sure how to word...)

Join us in casting a vote for Ron Paul at the Ames Straw Poll (direct appeal for vote - larger text)
[details like date, time, place, website and a phone number for info or a ride]

*This ad wasn't paid for by any official campaign or.... (small text grassroots disclamer)

I wouldn't even use color except for accent in a few minimal places.
Maybe a muted image of a smiling Ron Paul looking on...like on the official website...underneath the text, filling the whole page.

The reason I like the Faith picture is because that it is real. It portrays him as a human being. I think when folks see that, they can relate to it. The image is very engaging. I think its powerful because of those features and that conveys the message of honesty, humility and integrity even more. It's an appeal to emotion that older voters might experience.

The primary impact is to make him look old, imho. Real or not. There are other pictures where he looks real, and vital. I don't see a benefit to looking real in an ad if the impression to most is 'really old'.

Okay that was funny! :D

I don't think we can hide the fact that he's old. We need to embrace it to neutralize their attacks. Just like he did with the PBS interview. If we own it they got nothing!

However, I'm working on a second ad with a new image and concept. More facts, less appeal to emotion.
