There is only one woman that really rocked and it's...

so whats the criteria?...any female singer?

rock and roll
hard rock
speed metal
country
blues
opera
show tunes (broadway)
punk
electronica

etc etc

My criteria was rock music, ability, success and authenticity.

Rock music? OK..the only one in my opinion that fits the description, and fits it well, is Joan Jett. Just reading her wiki bio should convince everyone, but it seems the definition of Rock has been diluted over time, but Jett has it nailed.

What about being able to write your own music, your own lyrics, playing an instrument, playing two instruments at a time, performing live, improvisation skills, and using your fame to create the first national sexual assault hotline? :o

In June 1994, Amos co-founded RAINN, The Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network, a toll-free help line in the US connecting callers with their local rape crisis center. Amos, herself a survivor of sexual assault,[54] was seen as unlocking the silence of her assault through her music; thus "Unlock the Silence" went on to become a year-long campaign for RAINN when Amos became a national spokesperson for the organization. By the summer of 2006, RAINN had received its one millionth caller[55] and the organization's success has led to it ranking in "America's 100 Best Charities" by Worth, and one of the "Top 10 Best Charities" by Marie Claire.

I'm a hardcore toriphile. :p

I would agree that it is certainly impressive, but I don't know if I would consider it to be "rocking".

I just learned recently that Minnie Ripperton's daughter is Saturday Night Live cast member Maya Rudolph.

I've a liking for Jucifer ... for those who like their metal descended from Blue Cheer ie a lot of emphasis on "heavy" - I like to imagine someone liking her "poppy" recordings/videos (like the first one below) and then going to see her live (like the second one below), not really understanding what a Blue Cheer influence really sounds like.

I agree completely.

I love me some Tori Amos. I used to have a big crush on her till she got those bangs... :(

I only saw her play once, back around 1999 I think.

I'd have to disagree that there's only one woman who really rocked. There were several. As for who rocked the most, I'd have to give it to Suzi Quatro.

She was one of my favorites in the late 70's/early 80s. This was the first time I've listened to her in years.
