Radley Balko writes some good stuff, but in this case even he missed how retardedly messed up the police statement was in regard to this shooting. Balko only saw a statement by the media.
The actual police statement reads:
"During the arrest the juvenile received a gunshot wound to the leg." which not only fails to mention that it was a Coffee County officer who pulled the trigger, but (probably out of shame) also failed to mention any dog that he’d tried to kill.
A few months ago that statement was on the Coffee County Sheriff Department facebook page, but I just checked now and the whole entire incident of shooting a 10 year old kid has been expunged. No mention of it at all.
Another one that I'm particularly pissed off about is this...
June 2014. During a hunt for a local transient, Riverside police took their dog into the back yard of a private home that contained a pet dog. When the two dogs confronted each other, the decision was made to kill the pet dog named Princess at its own home in order to protect the police dog.
Ineptly, the officer managed to shoot the police K9 dog in the leg.
Riverside police later gave statements to the media about how unfortunate the situation was for the wounded police dog, even going so far as to arrange a photo opportunity to show the police dog wearing a cast on her leg, and posting these pictures, video, and stories onto multiple social media web pages.
But they also totally neglected to offer
any words of sympathy for the dead pet or its owner. As a prime example, the story about the shooting posted by police onto their Facebook web page does not even say that the pet was killed. It is a minor detail they see not important enough to bother mentioning.
Scroll down to June 17 to see for yourself.
