Suggestions for RPF.com

2. There's no need for a "Hot Topics" area. What are you going to do? Move all topics there once they become "hot"? All topics should be posted in the proper forum (or get moved there) and stay there so that new members know where to look for discussions in regards to the topic... It's really simple.

Hot Topics = truther dungeon.

Clearly, someone here is violating first rule of software design, which is listen to your users. Interesting experiment, but everyone is pissed and nobody can figure out where anything is. Clearly, the experiment is not succeeding, the majority of users preferred the one big bucket approach.

This thread is for suggestions.

My suggestion would be fewer forums as others have also suggested. I'm spending way less time on the forums and way more time out there in the real world being a part of the revolution (not to mention busy with real life, taking care of my children, etc). When I come here I only read RPN&D, skim through the first few pages to make sure I haven't missed any important news. I could do the view recent but if everyone does that then what is the point of even sending things to different forums? Ever since I became active in getting the word out about RP off of the computer, I've missed a lot. I just saw Aravoth's When in the Course of Human Events video for the first time yesterday. There is no excuse for that, lol. So yeah...easier to find things with fewer forums. If I'm looking for something specific, I do a search for key words and have no problems.

Oh, I see. Hot Topics meaning Heated Discussions.. I see now......

Yes there is a need for a Hot Topics. Only members can read the Hot Topics posts so when someone gets a bit carried away it can be moved there and out of the eyesight of casual passers by.
I think Act Locally should just be Take Action. Web projects are not really local, and subdividing into regions would splinter support for global web projects. I really don't care what it's called, I just don't want it subdivided.

All successful forums use multiple categories and forums. Just because this place was done wrong from the get-go (and everybody got used to it) doesn't mean it has to stay wrong forever... Evolution...

There aren't enough topics to justify using so many categories.

Maybe this is why this forum has been so popular over other forums. To change it the way the other forums are will add no value to this forum.

After some more thought- I'm suggesting a different view of the breakdown:

News, Discussion & Action:
==========================
Ron Paul News & Discussion
General Politics & Other
Campaign Projects

Information Resources:
======================
Issues for America
Ron Paul Media Matters
Campaign Material
Online Campaign Material
Strategies for Success
GOP & Legal

This keeps the discussion focused to the narrow three areas while still allowing for the repositories to remain while being obviously separate.

The categories can be trimmed-down. That's not a bad idea. But some people seem to want everything in one forum.

When I create my forums, I create very few categories and separate areas.. As the forum grows, I create new areas and move topics appropriately. Eventually, I have an extremely busy community with 10 different categories and 100 different forums - and it flows very naturally..

It seems this is happening here. MAYBE a touch prematurely? I don't know.. But the general idea isn't a bad one...

This forum is only popular over other Ron Paul forums. It's because of the software and the inbound links and the people posting - not because of the forum organization - not at this point in time...

Maybe this is why this forum has been so popular over other forums. To change it the way the other forums are will add no value to this forum.

OOOORRRRR, the other possibility is that the forum members that complained about a few not following the forum guidelines are happy not to have to wade through extraneous threads when looking for news about Ron Paul's campaign. ;)

After Labor Day, and especially next year when the primaries start, that clarity will be more important.

0130 here. Sensible people are asleep. Just us trolls left.

Where are these people? And who is going to care how things are organized if people quit coming and posting to the forum. Or if you can find your threads because they have been UPSed out. Or no one keeps posting their ideas because they are going to be moved where no one will see them.

If people post their topics in the appropriate forum, they won't get moved.. This forum isn't going to die because new people find it every day. Anyone who leaves at this point WILL BE REPLACED by newcomers who find the organization refreshing - and YOU WHO LEFT will be missing out in the end..

There's a whole lot of breath-wasting going on around here...

Ok Sal, next time you have an idea and need funds or help, try and find the section that is appropriate with only one member viewing and see how quick you find the help or funds.
