Should immunizations be forced?

Your childs body does not belong to the government. PERIOD. Pretty simple huh?

Thanks for all the responses, guys. Most of these, though, have been practical ones, i.e., "vaccines may hurt you!" That's fine and all, but what I am really interested in is the philosophy and principle behind not forcing people to get immunizations. Can anyone address this?

Thanks again!

Absolutely they should not be. It should be up to the parents. It's a public health issue like smoking as someone said above. I just think that the human body is your property, and in the kid's case it should be up to the parent. In the case of smoking, if the owner of the property wants to allow smoking it should be allowed. But I guess it's the states who are banning smoking so we have to fight for it at the state level.

But why? I agree with you, but why? Why is this not an okay reason to use force? If someone has a disease and hangs out near you, aren't they threatening your person?

What do you care if YOU are vaccinated? Are you going to get my measles? Then what do you care? Oh, wait, maybe you will get them because vaccination does not equal immunity.

Again, I see my post was disregarded but vaccines CAN and DO hurt people. My son was injured. I have been advised by our pediatrician not to continue his vaccinations or get any for my youngest child. Read the package inserts, there are potential side effects. One being encephalitis, seizures and brain damage. That's what happened here. But yay, he won't get diptheria- to think he could have caught it from that one person in the US who had it last year and if he had he could have been treated. Yes, there's treatment. No, brain damage is much better and longer lasting. Thank God for vaccinations!

I can see both sides of this issue. I believe people should not be forced to do anything they don't want to do, but there's the flip side too...

I feel immunizations should be further tested to make sure they are more safe for sure. There is a simularity to this and smoking in public. You might like to smoke. BUT, others around you don't want to inhale your cancerous second hand smoke. Same with not getting shots. You're walking around coughing out your flu germs everywhere, infecting others around you, when you could have had the shot. You're putting other's at risk against their will, because you were complacent.

As is anyway, schools require current immunizations to enter school, unless you fake shot records. So in a round-about way, they are already a requirement if you want an education.

Interesting analogy, now what if not smoking killed some people? Would you still force them to stop? Vaccines have not been proven safe, nor are the materials they are composed of safe, infact, themerisol is only one of the commonly used ingredients that is definitely not safe. Perhaps it isn't that harmful in the amount contained, but that's assuming you only get one shot. How many vaccines are they pushing these days? What if you were forced to take psycological drugs because the state feels they are safe and wants to get everyone on them to lower crime rates? Would you trust that the drug companies aren't harming you?

There is alot of money to be made off of vaccines and it has little to do with stopping disease. As I stated earlier, it was once accepted that bleeding a patient was a cure. Now it is believed that injecting a patient with poisons and a disease in various stages of activity is a form of prevention. You are welcome to think whatever you want about this, but you are not welcome to force anything I deem harmful on my, or my children's body.

And to add...I know a woman who lost her daughter, 2 years old, to a "bad batch" of vaccinations. She won't be getting measles, mumps, or rubella, though. Acceptable loss I guess. Grrr.

AGAIN, WHO ARE YOU PUTTING AT RISK IF YOU AREN'T VACCINATED? Yeah, other people who CHOOSE not to be vaccinated. So no, the smoking analogy doesn't make sense. If you're vaccinated why would you care if I was? What a strange discussion.

Interesting how everyone claims that immunizations have made us all healthy human beings, and yet people are dieing of more starng and off the wall shit that they never died of, at least in in this many proportional numbers, before.

Here are the benefits of vaccination:

* Pertussis (whooping cough)
Cases per year (average) before vaccines: 147,271
Cases in 2003: 11,647
Decrease in cases per year: 92.1%

Pertussis is way under-reported. You only get counted if they send a culture to the lab and report positive results to CDC. The childhood vaccine wears off by the teen years. It goes around a lot. A local high school had a major outbreak. It's an air-born disease, and as easy to pick up as a flu. People need to get re-vaccinated, especially older folks.

The life expectancy DOUBLED in the last 100 years. People are now getting old age diseases that were not seen before because we live twice as long. We are MUCH healthier now than before.

There's a HUGE risk to everyone INCLUDING immunized people to catch these diseases again if a large segment of the population is not immunized as they cause the re-spreading of the virus (which may have mutated). I got immunized for polio some 40 years ago. I really don't know how effective this vaccination is at the present time, particularly if the new virus is slightly different.

What people have to understand here can only be explained if they open up their history books and look at the countless millions that died because of lack of vaccination.

Vaccination must be mandatory and vaccines are very safe. There may be rare cases where there have been problems, but we would face a much worse risk by not vaccinating the population as a whole.

Ok Genius.

Lets expand.

Gun Confiscation must be mandatory and a gun free public is very safe. There may be rare cases where there have been problems, but we would face a much worse risk by not confiscating guns from the population as a whole.

A presence of a Street Camera on every street corner must be mandatory and a 24/7 surveillance of every citizen on the street is very safe. There may be rare cases where there have been problems, but we would face a much worse risk by not watching the the population as a whole.

Random Bag searches must be mandatory in all locations and a simple search is very safe. There may be rare cases where there have been problems, but we would face a much worse risk by not searching all carried luggage of the population as a whole.

RFID chip implantation must be mandatory and RFID implantable chips are very safe. There may be rare cases where there have been problems, but we would face a much worse risk by not implanting RFID chips into the population as a whole.

You get the idea ?

You see where this kind of thinking goes?

Don't know what manifesto you read that out of, but it is simply not true.

Those "rare cases" are not so rare and are all over the place. I have a very small circle of friends and know two families with children damaged by vaccines.

You can keep your vaccinations to yourself and keep them away from me and mine.

Get drafted and you won't have a choice at all! They stick you with so many injections, you feel like a pin cushion.

No period. If you are being neglectful (if you don't feed it or clothe it) then the government can take the child from you. Vaccinations could be an extension from that, because the child is not responsible enough to make its own decisions about health, and you shouldn't be making the wrong decisions for them (like not taking them to see doctors because of your crazy religious beliefs, see the Amish)

Vaccinnations have risk, and the risks are high enough to kill your kid. Is questioning the injection neglect? Or is it protection.

Also, I just have to ask, were you abused by a priest or something? You hate religion way too much.
