He is chipping away at the BS. As we cut taxes and spending, and the economy gets better, more people will be open to a full repeal.

Right now there is not the support anywhere to repeal an Amendment to the Constitution. You have to show them it works first.

I don't want a new amendment to the constitution I just want the income tax abolished. It would be a multi-year war to get an amendment like that passed. What I want to hear is that he will strive to abolish the income tax from day one.

A constitutional amendment is what is required to permanently abolish the income tax. If you don't repeal the 16th amendment, the income tax can be reimposed by any future Congress.

Also, the president doesn't have Constitutional authority to abolish the income tax. It will require action by Congress. Finally, unless spending is cut as well, abolishing the income tax would increase the national debt and interest rates on that debt.

Dr. Paul's plan is something that has the potential to actually be enacted. It's the best option for actually getting rid of the income tax (rather than just talking about getting rid of it).

I value PRINCIPLES. In my opinion, if you don't have CONSTANT PRINCIPLES you don't deserve to be elected.

And you know what? When you unveil a plan like this you BETTER mention bringing all the troops home and you BETTER mention abolishing the IRS and not some long dragged out process to pass a new amendment.

But in regards to elimination of the INCOME TAX, you MUST seek a Constitutional Amendment. As that is where the income tax gets its legality.

So you would have no choice but to pursue intermediate action to lower the burden on people. It took 70 years to get here it will take more than 4 years to get us out.

If that is the case then he must START with the income tax! The income tax effects EVERYONE and not just those that invest.

Secondly, he can end the income tax immediately. He has unlimited pardon power. He has already said he would pardon all non violent drug users. He could pardon every non violent tax evader!

don't worry, if he becomes president people on their own will just stop paying taxes, the IRS will be reigned in, and by default, because of the peoples will it will be phased out. Once he is in this sort of dissent against the IRS will become increasingly popular. Rest assured, if Ron Paul becomes president the IRS will be shrunk by 80%, and the income tax will become an ugly old relic that kept this country chained.

While I am not a fan, I don't feel particularly oppressed by the UN. I've traveled all around the world and this country scares me more than any other I've stepped foot in. It's nothing but rules, within rules, within rules in the US.

There was a good study done. And the sad fact of the matter is America is ranked 48th in the world as far as freedoms. And falling fast.

Aren't we supposed to be #1? And THE example for the world to follow?? I think not.

Wow, for Ron Paul supporters, some of you didn't really put much thought into this before posting and bitching about IRS and Iraq.

This isn't his Presidential Policy. This is just his version of a stimulus.

You can't abolish the IRS RIGHT NOW. There's way too much spending right now for us to sustain ourselves without the current revenue.

Once spending has been cut back to responsible levels, THEN the income tax can go.

And as for Iraq, it mentioned in this plan to bring our troops home from overseas.

I'm sure many people have already taken care of clearing this up throughout this thread, but there's 24 pages worth of this, and I don't really feel like clicking through them all.
