Ron Paul Campaign Announces ‘Hispanics for Ron Paul’ Nationwide Coalition!

how do you know what they mean?

Immigration is VERY important to Hispanics!!! They care an awful lot about the Border and such!

Really? What border? Where I come from the illegals are mostly Haitian. I was born a citizen. Immigration isn't even in the top 20 issues for me. In fact, within my family and community, illegals are not revered. It's not seen as some sort of delightfully quirky American Dream story.

I am more interested in the economy, social programs, foreign policy, education, etc..

I find this ridiculous, and the fact I even had to spell it out is irksome.

I eagerly await "Whites for Ron Paul."

Some of the Spanish in this thread is absolutely awful, by the way.

What is all the complaining about? Nothing wrong with forming groups of people.
It is different than favoring one group over another in the eyes of the law or when it comes to government contracts.

Gee, I thought Ron was a man of uncompromising principles....

I don't really see it as a compromise. Lot's of campaigns recruit voters by blocking them together. Think of something like "fiscal conservatives for Paul." This is just a good way to get folks who think of themselves as ______ to see that others with that same identity support a particular candidate. "Social proof" if you will. Personally, I'm sure Ron sees people as individuals but his campaign is just using a good tactic for gaining votes.

^Exactly. Forming groups and favoring groups are entirely different scenarios.

So you are going to begin "Whites for Ron"?

This remains ridiculous. The campaign is free to do it, and no one is saying they aren't. Some folks, though, are pretty damned disappointed that the same stupid rush to label issues as only being really important to certain groups is now a front-and-center part of Ron's campaign. It's pandering. It's also pretty insulting to think that Ron's core issues would not be enough to convince your average "Hispanic" voter, so better marketing is necessary. Others will disagree. To each their own.

This is a massive turnoff. I doubt I'm all alone on this.

You could replace hispanic with any group. Quite frankly, this idea that we can just convey the message and it will all work out is not a reality. Winning elections requires some political marketing. It doesn't mean that you have to compromise your principles but you do need to do some traditional campaign things.

You make a good point.

Look, it doesn't matter what you label it, or how greatly it helps the campaign. The fact is that Ron Paul has spoken out several times about categorizing people based on race/gender/ect. To suggest that this is on the same level as Veterans or Youth for Ron Paul is preposterous.

This is honestly the first time in my life that I have been disappointed by Ron. If he can compromise his principles for votes, then what might he compromise when the weight of the world is on his shoulders? I suppose nobody's perfect... but still.

Well, as long as they're "traditional" campaign things then there surely isn't anything wrong with them...

Individuals who happen share a common culture, background, origin, tradition, and values are now considered "collectivist"?

No. That certainly would not describe what collectivism is. Do you know what collectivism is?

I wish you would reconsider. If Ron Paul said these groups should be treeated differently, that would be on thing. To encourage people of a group to encourage other to vote in a like fashion due to shared interests, is different.
