Ron Paul & B. Frank will Introduce Bill Thurs. 2 Decriminalize Marijuana at Fed level

Rasmussen: Economy, Health Care, Taxes Continue to Be Top Issues for Voters

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/mood_of_america/importance_of_issues

Issue Very Important

Economy 74%

Health Care 69%

Taxes 63%

Gov't Ethics and Corruption 61%

Social Security 61%

Education 58%

Immigration 53%

National Security/War on Terror 47%

Afghanistan 24%

War in Iraq 21%

I guess that "majority" of yours was too stoned to answer the phone when Rasmussen called.

...as the Rasmussen data PROVES WITHOUT ANY ROOM AT ALL FOR ARGUMENT, the drug war is NOT on voters' radar.

musicmax,

Apparently you didn’t read the wording of the survey. Here’s the list of issues Rasmussen presented for comment:

Economy
National Security and the War on Terror
War in Iraq
War in Afghanistan
Immigration
Government Ethics and Corruption
Taxes
Health Care
Social Security
Education

I see nothing about drug prohibition. So unless I’m blind, you need to explain how the Rasmussen data PROVES that the drug war is NOT on voters' radar.

Brush up on your definitions. One who criticizes your message for committing a logical fallacy is not committing “ad hominem”.

This isn't that bad

"Congressman Paul, is it true that you support the legalization of COCAINE AND HEROINE?" <<< How many times have you heard them ask him this? And he seems to be doing fairly well answering the question. That being said, I don't think this bill is going to hurt his chances for the nomination all that much. When everyone is asking him about heroine and cocaine, pot becomes really not that big of a deal.

Please convince me that I'm not conversing with a brick wall by acknowledging that THE DRUG WAR DOES NOT REGISTER AS ONE OF THE TOP TEN ISSUES AMONG VOTERS.

Oh I dunno, It depends on the election cycle - in which the issues can change very quickly at any given time. Certainly it's not too far down the road from when an administration is actually going to HAVE to address this problem. It is an unsustainable policy perspective- like the War on Terror. At least Dr. Paul takes this into account. Its a big reason Why many (including me) support him.

As far as signs go, I’d say your post is a much stronger one; that you aren’t actually trying to advocate legalization.

Ironically, Ron Paul's positions are traditionally conservative.

I support legalizing all drugs. It's just that it's incredibly dumb for Ron to do this during a GOP primary.

its one of those issues where it is primarily important to those in favor of legalization; no one will be motivated to vote against someone based on this issue. its a heads you win, tails nothing happens issue.

Not dumb ... just honest. Ron Paul's version of transparency may not be PC, but it is sincere. He is already on record saying that he will pardon non-violent offenders as long as they didn't commit other more serious crimes. Ron Paul is the real deal.

he will not lose 1 vote on this, and will gain some who may not have turned out otherwise, or would have voted for Johnson. the hard ass drug warriors, terror warriors , neo-cons are going to vote for Bachmann. just as feminists voted for Hillary; Obama won because he expanded his base, not by taking Hillary voters. there is a lesson there.

His stances on issues like this are why we like him so much, but it won't get him anywhere in a GOP primary. Ron should realize what people's priorities are right now.

If there is any chance of decriminalizing Marijuana, he should put the bill forth, regardless of what it means for his campaign. wait until he is elected President.

There. Fixed it for you.

The smart thing to do is realize that getting elected is the only chance Ron has of actually changing things.

I'll take a few small sacrifices now, in the name of him winning the election, and reap the greater rewards later.

Like I said, it's about priorities. Most people are primarily concerned about jobs and the economy, not marijuana laws.

It is a priority for me. If marijuana becomes legal, then perhaps industrial hemp can be legalized too. Then people can get back to work growing, designing, building, creating, and producing high quality products. Jobs, jobs, jobs... in America.

Hemp production could be a billion dollar industry in this country, wouldn't you think? I've read a few articles from hemp advocates, but haven't looked at numbers or anything.

this is not just honest but smart; Ron Paul has said/done some stupid things (such as he wouldn't have killed Bin Laden) ; but this is politically astute. he might even pick up some Bachmann voters who have had friends or family destroyed by this stupid drug war. how many dogs have died because of this stupid drug war? innocent people killed?

Ahh, so he should have just been acting like your typical unprincipled presidential candidate, then suddenly become principled after elected?

No. He should just avoid the issue as much as possible. He could learn some things from Rand.
