Pregnant women now posting videos of taking Tylenol because Orange Man Bad

Why "consult your doctor if you are pregnant" is NOT the same as "No pregnant woman should ever take Tylenol because...autism."

This is from 2020:

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning that use of nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) around 20 weeks or later in pregnancy may cause rare but serious kidney problems in an unborn baby. This can lead to low levels of amniotic fluid surrounding the baby and possible complications. NSAIDs are commonly used to relieve pain and reduce fevers. They include medicines such as aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac, and celecoxib. After around 20 weeks of pregnancy, the unborn babies’ kidneys produce most of the amniotic fluid, so kidney problems can lead to low levels of this fluid. Amniotic fluid provides a protective cushion and helps the unborn babies’ lungs, digestive system, and muscles develop.

Translation? During the end of pregnancy all anti-inflammatory drugs (Tylenol, aspirin, ibuprophen) cause a risk to the baby. So it's generally a good practice for a pregnant woman to "consult her doctor" before taking any of them. But that's NOT the same as saying "Don't take Tylenol because...autism."

Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is not an anti inflammatory.

Dr. Oz publicly breaks from Trump on Tylenol as he encourages pregnant women to take the drug

Dr. Mehmet Oz, the celebrity TV doctor-turned-federal-administrator, publicly broke with his boss, Donald Trump, on Tuesday after the president made wild claims about Tylenol being a cause of autism if taken by pregnant women.

Oz, who leads the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, appeared on TMZ Live as the health world continued to react to the Trump administration’s pronouncement that use of acetaminophen, the active ingredient in Tylenol, during pregnancy was linked to diagnoses of autism. Evidence on the matter is inconclusive, and many studies suggest that the accusations are unfounded.

The former TV doc told TMZ’s hosts what many independent medical experts urged in the wake of the administration’s pronouncement on Monday: that pregnant women fighting illnesses that cause fevers may still be prescribed the drug by their doctors, and should follow those recommendations from their primary-care providers.

“If you have a high fever….the doctor’s almost certainly going to prescribe you something,” said Oz, who’d stood beside Trump as the president urged mothers not to take the drug a day earlier. “Tylenol might be one of the things they give [you].

“Take it when it’s appropriate,” Oz then said, before adding that Tylenol was “probably your best option” for fighting lower-grade fevers that don’t require hospitalization.

Trump’s administration has been under pressure from supporters of his health secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., since the president took office in January to commit federal resources to discovering the factors which may contribute to children being diagnosed with conditions on the autism spectrum.

Kennedy, a longtime supporter of “alternative” medicine and a skeptic of established medical discipline and practice, has in the past suggested links between the condition and various unproven “causes” such as early childhood vaccinations.

In reality, most experts agree that the reason for the spike in autism diagnoses is the contemporary understanding of a condition that was barely understood by the public even a few decades ago.

One U.S. government-funded study, the largest to date on the subject of autism diagnoses, found that taking Tylenol during pregnancy carried no increased risk of a later autism diagnosis for infants.

Dimitrios Siassakos, professor in obstetrics and gynecology at University College London and honorary consultant in obstetrics at University College London Hospital (UCLH), has said: “Autism results from several factors, often combined, particularly genetic predisposition, and sometimes low oxygen at the time of birth as a result of complications.”

“Research has shown that any apparent marginal increase as a result of paracetamol/acetaminophen use in pregnancy tends to disappear when the analyses take into account the factors that matter most,” he continued.

On Monday, Trump hosted a press conference with Kennedy at the White House where the president went beyond even the unproven claims being pushed by Kennedy to make his own pronouncement on the drug that was full of his typical bluster and imprecision: “With Tylenol, don’t take it. Don’t take it.”

Many doctors have reacted to the president’s remarks this week with worry that his unproven claims will cause feelings of judgement and shame among mothers of children diagnosed as autistic out of fear they were to blame for their child’s diagnosis.

The makers of Tylenol, meanwhile, are bracing for an onslaught of legal claims in the wake of Trump’s press conference.

Man, you really can't hate the media enough.

First, the President is a moron - that's well established. But the recent study did find a correlation - not a causation - and urged caution in using Tylenol while pregnant. He didn't pull it out of his ass.

I wonder why these "independent" news agencies don't disclose how much of Kenvue's (the maker of Tylenol) $1.62 Billion advertising budget they get???

So....you could have just stopped with "the President is a moron."

Anyhow, which study are you going from? This is the most recent study I found on PubMed.

Conclusions and relevance: Acetaminophen use during pregnancy was not associated with children's risk of autism, ADHD, or intellectual disability in sibling control analysis. This suggests that associations observed in other mode
ls may have been attributable to familial confounding.

And something else to consider is the risk of not taking Tylenol in situations where it would be helpful.

But, following the remarks, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists warned that pain and fever can be harmful when left untreated during pregnancy.

“The conditions people use acetaminophen to treat during pregnancy are far more dangerous than any theoretical risks and can create severe morbidity and mortality for the pregnant person and the fetus,” the group said in a statement.

If Trump had simply said something simple like "Consult with your doctor before taking Tylenol" (what's one warning label as pointed out by @Anti Federalist), that would be one thing. But he said 'Fight like hell not to take it,' Sure, nobody, pregnant women included, should be guzzling Tylenol like candy. But to "fight not to take it" under circumstances when it might actually be helpful based on scant statistical evidence is more than a little sus.

Evaluation of the evidence on acetaminophen use and neurodevelopmental disorders using the Navigation Guide methodology

Results

We identified 46 studies for inclusion in our analysis. Of these, 27 studies reported positive associations (significant links to NDDs), 9 showed null associations (no significant link), and 4 indicated negative associations (protective effects). Higher-quality studies were more likely to show positive associations. Overall, the majority of the studies reported positive associations of prenatal acetaminophen use with ADHD, ASD, or NDDs in offspring, with risk-of-bias and strength-of-evidence ratings informing the overall synthesis.

Conclusions

Our analyses using the Navigation Guide thus support evidence consistent with an association between acetaminophen exposure during pregnancy and increased incidence of NDDs. Appropriate and immediate steps should be taken to advise pregnant women to limit acetaminophen consumption to protect their offspring’s neurodevelopment.

Back to not hating the media enough... I hope you find it at least curious that they didn't link to the original analysis that is causing the uproar.

I suppose their pharma funders might object to that relevant piece of information.

I don’t care what politicians or experts say. I instinctively know that introducing any man-made chemicals to your body will have consequences. How much the impacts are depends on many independent factors. Those same chemicals will impact a developing fetus x 1000. Seems pretty obvious that there’s a risk.

Another distraction from the Diddler in Chief’s admin….

ICU nurse here......for the women out there that are PREGNANT and thinking this Tylenol thing is a way to stick it to Trump and RFK Jr......Tylenol OD is not a joke.....please stop doing this

I hate Tylenol....I try really hard not to give it to my patients, who aren't pregnant btw, because it is poison

If you want to do this to yourself, well you cant fix stupid, but if you are pregnant, you should want a healthy, LIVING child

Ruining your liver doesnt stop with just you.....it will harm your baby

And father's who aren't stopping this, you need to man the hell up and put a stop to this now.....protect your family, especially your child

SCOOP: Tylenol Maker Privately Admitted Evidence Was Getting ‘Heavy’ For Autism Risk In 2018

https://dailycallernewsfoundation.o...ce-was-getting-heavy-for-autism-risk-in-2018/

The pharmaceutical company behind Tylenol privately acknowledged the likelihood of an association between its drug in pregnancy and neurodevelopmental disorders like autism in children seven years ago, company documents obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation show.

“The weight of the evidence is starting to feel heavy to me,” said Rachel Weinstein, U.S. director of epidemiology for Janssen, the pharmaceutical arm of Johnson & Johnson, in 2018. Johnson & Johnson marketed Tylenol at the time but in 2023 spun off its consumer products division into a separate company called Kenvue.

Legacy media headlines and vocal public health experts have dismissed the conclusion of President Donald Trump and Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. that Tylenol taken in pregnancy and early infancy has driven rises in autism. But one stakeholder has for years viewed the evidence as credible enough to act upon, at least privately: The makers of Tylenol.
Concerns about a link between Tylenol and neurological disorders may have reached the C-suite by 2014, according to another email, which references then-Johnson & Johnson CEO Alex Gorski.

The makers of Tylenol have closely tracked a drumbeat of scientific publications finding an association between taking the blockbuster drug in pregnancy and infancy and autism risk, other company documents show.

A 2018 internal presentation the company labeled “privileged and confidential” acknowledges that observational studies show a “somewhat consistent” association between prenatal exposure to Tylenol and neurodevelopmental disorders. Another presentation slide acknowledges that larger meta-analyses — reviews summarizing multiple scientific studies — found an association, but notes weaknesses of these studies like confounding variables and subjectivity in measuring autistic traits.

“Johnson & Johnson divested its consumer health business years ago, and all rights and liabilities associated with the sale of its over-the-counter products, including Tylenol (acetaminophen), are owned by Kenvue,” a Johnson & Johnson spokesman said in a statement.
