Perry Spokesman on THE PICTURES

It seems very odd to me. If someone grasped my arm and put a finger up, I would think I would remember what they said a couple days later.

I was wondering if maybe Perry threatened to bring up the racist newsletters.

Yeah, but that is just a picture - gestures and facial expressions change dramatically in the course of a conversation, naturally. What seems menacing frozen in time may have been part of an overall exchange that wasn't particularly noteworthy.

Ever have your picture taken right before you're about to say something? Like right before the actual word comes out of your mouth? Often times your eyes will be half-closed, your mouth will be distorted... your hands might be coming up... your chin might be drawn in... you might look like a doofus in that frozen-in-time picture, but viewed naturally, in real-time it wouldn't seem odd at all.

Maybe something was said, and maybe it wasn't, but I'm inclined to believe Ron... and I'm definitely not going to make an issue of it if he's not.

He was in the middle of a National debate with lights and cameras - I gave a small presentation at work once and can't tell you what the heck I said or what happened while it was going on (nerves).

They're going to bring the letters up anyway, everyone knows it, he's prepared.

If ron is saying the same thing, then I'm inclined to believe him. perhaps perry just always looks like an ahole?

Says a lot about Perry, imo.

I believe the man. It undoubtedly was cordial, by Perry standards. Ron Paul was simply telling the truth, as usual, but could have added (if he were less of a gentleman), '...relatively speaking.'

I'm glad Perry isn't one of my relatives!

Ron's bodyguard approached the podium, and huntsman felt he needed to break it up. What more do you beta's need to understand intimidation dynamics?

people only guessed it was his bodyguard, others don't believe it was. you are assuming huntsman was trying to break it up, i think he was sneaking over to read the notes on dr. pauls podium. also, only beta's use the word beta.

Ron Paul represents the Texas that fought for its independence.

Rick Perry represents the Texas that was conqured by the Carpetbaggers at the end of the Civil War.

i'm surprised no one has brought up one very real possibility:

the words were sweet... the pose was not.... on purpose.
perry was going in for a planned photo op where he'd use intimidating body language while saying something nonchalant, and hope to get a photo where he looks dominant and Ron Paul looks submissive.
But it backfired, because Ron Paul ended up looking nonchalant.

I'm not saying this is the case, but I do know that using body language that doesn't match your words is an effective technique in certain situations, and it's quite possible.

the fact that Fox immediately ran a cropped photo trying to make it look dom/sub and not jerk/nice guy tells me at the very least, fox wanted what it wanted.

I wonder if Perry always looks so aggressive and annoyed in polite conversation?

I think there is more to it. His bodyguard wouldn't have stood up and approached the podium for a friendly conversation.

If politicians fight, what can bodyguards do? I'd imagine all hell would break loose, as the bodyguards would fight each other.

Just the same, I think Ron should challenge him to a 20 mile bike race.

RACE HIM, RON! RACE HIM!

Benton said that while Paul has laughed off the Perry exchange, the campaign likes the contrast.

"What it shows is that Rick perry is a very aggressive, in your face person," he said. "He puts his hands on people, he tries to show that he’s the alpha dog, he tries to psychologically intimidate people and gets in people’s faces.

"Some people like that, but other people like someone who's going to be a more thoughtful president, not a bully," he said.
