New spin: He travels first class to Congress (how desperate are they??)

Hm, I wish he'd fly coach while spending tax dollars. Though I have no problem with him flying first class or charter jet while spending campaign money. We give him that money to get out there and campaign, and it's good to arrive fast.

Why doesn't the media ask how lifelong politicians like Gingrich and Santorum afford multimillion dollar homes outside of DC.

lol AP had to adjust their story and make it longer and add in that Ron Paul doesn't take the pension plan and returns some money back but then try to use that against him.

"Paul boasts on his website about declining other congressional perks, such as a pension and all-expense-paid travel "junkets" that other lawmakers take. And he says he regularly returns money from his congressional account to the treasury.

But when it comes to his congressional travel, Paul has opted not to search for cheaper airfares that could mean returning more of his office account to the treasury, which uses any money returned by House or Senate members to help reduce the federal deficit."

I got the mod on this site in the comments trying to defend the article being on their website.

WOW F@#*NG REALLY. they accuse him of not spending less so he can return MORE money to the treasury!?!? HOW MANY F**#NG people even RETURN money to the Ttreasury.

177 media outlets on the internet are running a parroting version of this story.

What a bunch of uselsss repeaters of lies & half-truths.

God Bless the Indpendent mind & spirit!

I have no problem with him flying first class while he works in Congress....
I want him to do his job well there too. :)

exactly, prolly very few do. It's.... I got no words for this crap.

This is the stupidest, lamest and most pathetic attack piece I've ever seen from any election cycle. Any reporter/journalist should be even more ashamed of themselves thatn what they normally should for pushing this kind of crap.

It's his money he can do with it whatever he wants. Maybe it's campaign fund raising or even from his personal account? Whats the problem? He's not costing tax payers anything by using his own money.

He deserves his own plane. Remember Pelosi's airplane debacle. Flying first class, what the hell is the big deal.

(Updated) In addition to flying first class instead of economy on flights between 2009 and 2011, the AP has discovered that Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul purchased meals from 24-hour breakfast diner International House of Pancakes (Ihop) last week, passing on the opportunity to eat at less costly American restaurants such as McDonald's and Burger King. AP researchers indicate that Paul could have saved taxpayers anywhere from $3.44 to $4.17 per meal by opting to eat at cheaper locations. Spread over a 104 week period - the length of one of Paul's congressional terms - we predict that Paul, the self-avowed "true fiscal conservative," may have unnecessarily cost his district well over $300.

Many potential voters are likely wondering how the candidate who wants to cut $1 trillion from the federal budget can rationalize eating at expensive diners instead of supporting home grown American restaurant enterprises that employ hundreds of thousands of Americans. Paul's campaign offered the following blanket statement, refusing to answer questions directly: "With regards to eating habits, Congressman Paul and his wife Carol prepare home-cooked meals. In fact, Mrs. Paul provided a cookbook filled with family recipes at any Iowa rally." AP researchers have suggested that the Paul family likely shops at the Whole Foods supermarket chain, yet again avoiding the opportunity to buy cheaper goods from traditional supermarkets.

The period reviewed by the AP was the most recent period for which complete congressional expense records were available.

Um. Look for this trivial issue to come up in the debates. They're getting desperate.

When you get past the emotional reaction, this is actually a good article. It shows Dr. Paul doesn't actually use taxpayer money to get first class tickets but uses his miles for upgrades. This may be a good article to get out there to Dr. Paul haters to cheer about then turn it on them and show the article is proof of how frugal he is.

Wonder how much all the other candidates have returned to the treasury combined vs Dr Paul? Let me guess... 0 vs pauls #.....

this is only an issue if the other candidates fly economy

but if he offered his upgrade to a returning soldier it would gain votes and free publicity

Any 76 year old man should fly 1st class...do you know how hard it is to get in and out of a cramped economy seat, especially when the person in front of you leans their seat back? Also he is less likely to be heckled by passengers travelling first class.

never use his age as an excuse for anything. it gives people an excuse not to vote for him

Travel to and from Congress is paid for by the government.

BREAKING NEWS!!!! Ron Paul uses "private bathroom" instead of using public restrooms.

Rick Perry claims to be a fiscal conservative, yet he costs Texas taxpayers $400,000.00 a MONTH in security costs. Where's the AP story on that?

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politic...y-costs-texas-taxpayers-up-to-400000-a-month/
This is a major deal in Texas. Some people tried to dig deeper and figure out why it was costing so much and the governor got a law passed that nobody is allowed to look into his expenses until years later for "security reasons". The political scene in Texas is kind of insane right now.
