New Iowa PPP poll: Rand at 3% with a 31% favorability rating

You know the phone from home folks are actively contacting all the caucus goers for Ron Paul in 2012. The same group that nearly won Iowa for him and gave him 20% of the vote. And no these people do not have land lines, they're all using cell phones. If Team Rand can get almost all of these people willing to participate again, while adding the new 18-22 year old block of voters he's going to be in this thing right down to the wire regardless of money. Cruz does have a lot of money, but he's also got a lot of competition for that religious crowd that went to Santorum the last time and Huckabee in 2008. Then you have Ben Carson, competing for the same crowd. Rand on the other hand is going to cherry pick from each of these groups while hopefully hanging onto his more libertarian base. That's how he wins my friend!

Exactly. Rand has the best ground game in Iowa. The other candidates know it and are worried...

Whats funny is that Rand was polling higher when he wasn't being super hawkish about foreign policy. Then he started to backtrack on comments (specifically about hawks in the party) and now hes basically a neo-con that doesnt care about marijuana. I think he would have done better if he stayed un hawkish and pushed the envelope on why Isis is actually a problem, the relationship between Isis and Iran.

He has just seemed like a flip flopper to me in the past 3 months.

Voters typically don't come back to a candidate. Typically.

That's not true. Just look at McCain in 2008. I think Rand needs to do what McCain did and just completely revamp his campaign. He also needs to start doing everything differently as well, including acting calm and Presidential in the debates, going to all of the functions that the other candidates go to, and campaigning almost exclusively in Iowa and New Hampshire, rather than campaigning in states like Texas and Michigan.

But McCain had the winds of the establishment and FNC at his back.

He also needs to stop talking about Trump and just campaign on his ideas and his vision.

He really comes off as the pesky hall monitor when he attacks Trump. No one likes the hall monitor. No one.

Rand has a good organization in Iowa though. All Rand needs to do is be himself and go around spreading his message, not attacking the other candidates and not yelling during the debates. He should spend his time attacking Hillary and Obama, because that's what Republicans want. They don't like it when Republicans attack each other.

Trump Still Leads in Iowa; Fiorina on Fire; Paul Tanking

PPP's newest Iowa poll finds Donald Trump leading the Republican field in the state even after a weekend of controversy. He's at 19% to 12% for Ben Carson and Scott Walker, 11% for Jeb Bush, 10% for Carly Fiorina, 9% for Ted Cruz, and 6% for Mike Huckabee and Marco Rubio.

The other 9 candidates are all clustered between 3% and having no support at all

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this poll was the intended outcome of the last "debates". They now have an "official" poll that has Fiorina and Rubio higher than Rand, which is what they wanted all along, and have been spinning hard to achieve.

Rand will be lucky to see another debate. They will cut-off above him from now on (they would also like to have Jindal and Kasich in there, so the cut-off point will depend upon if they are higher than Rand).

Rand really comes off as the cornerback covering the star wide receiver at the start of the first play from scrimmage.

I am here - take me on if you dare - which everybuddy loves to see.

Good job on the corner, kid !

Beaten by Carly Fiorina. Talk about embarrassing. If someone told me that Carly Fiorina would eclipse Rand Paul 3 years ago, I would have smacked them in the head several times. Run a crap campaign, get crap results.

likely republican voters

Likely* republican voters

11% favor a republican black guy
11% favor a republican woman
34% favor a republican who will blow up some countries
12% favor a republican with good hair
12% favor a tall republican
12% favor a republican that talks like a preacher
3% favor a republican that will reduce government and foreign intervention
5% said, hey, you're blocking the tv

*Likely means if the weather isn't too good or too bad and there isn't something particularly good on tv that night and if the potential voter is in generally good health that day and if the dog/cat isn't acting weird.

Fiorina has been pushed hard by the establishment media and neoconservative money people for years leading up to this. She would have to blow it pretty bad to not be pushed up in the polls.

The two key takeaways are:

1) If you're not in the media on a regular basis, you may as well not be running
2) The electorate is extremely fickle right now and half or more of the people polled are chasing whoever looks good at the moment.

Get ready for this from the media: "10 people is just too many, we need to start cutting down the field. Let's go with 8 next debate."

Holy crap.. You hit the nail on the head. People are watching the debates for entertainment and Trump provides that in spades. Stop pissing in their Cheerios by trying to pick a fight with him, you sound like a pesky annoying chump.
