"No one is intrigued by Trump because he is this so-called 'true conservative."
I have to agree. Only ideological activists are really engaged with that question and Rand can hardly claim he's the most consistent candidate (If its Wednesday, are you a libertarian?). Trump is populist. He's just taking any position he thinks is popular and is going with it. If it happens to be "conservative" so be it. He has no ideology (which is actually quite refreshing) and so do most people. Its not question of checklists, its a question what issues voters feel passionate about and what candidates they feel passionate about because they sense what concerns. Trump has just done a better job than anyone else of expressing this badly though it may be.
I tell you what, it took brass balls for Trump to praise single payer healthcare at a GOP debate knowing he could be assaulted on it. Rand was the only one who did so and yet judging from the polls it didn't make much of an impression. But since so many GOP voters are on Medicare, well par for the course right? Then Trump says the Iraq war was a failure. I've been wanting to hear that from Rand too. Sorry, no such luck. So Trump is ahead in the polls while cautious Rand, more conservative than anyone else, is at three percent. Yeah, he's conservative all right, like a tortoise. And trying to be so made him like everyone else in a 17-candidate field.
If you're going to attack Trump, do so with another vision in mind for the campaign than Trump's, not an ideological checklist no one gives a damn about. As I said before, Rand needs to be the candidate willing to take on fear that's so poisoning the U.S political bloodstream. Trump is a candidacy built on fear. That's how I do it, not whether he has the conservative position on oil divesture. No one cares. Sometimes questions and ideologies fade in the background in elections and its really about where you take the country. Rand has simply not offered it (and a tax plan is not a "vision") not in the way his father did which made the movement possible (and Rand's career) He needs to go back. Ask yourself the question, why do you want to be President Rand? and go from there.
