I'm right with you. I wish more people would understand the importance of running for state legislatures.
About how much does it cost to run a race for NC House and Senate? In my neck of the woods you'd be looking at about $10k for a House seat and up to $20k for a Senate seat depending on your district and creativity.
About the biggest I have ever seen a state house run is $100k, and even at that high figure it not ony costs less per candidate, but less per voter than a US Congress race.
I have several levels of funding under plan. my topped out dream figure is $100k. my high median is about $70k, my low median is about $50k and my lowball is $35k
I have heard of State House races spending $10 or $20k but they were either unchallenged incumbents, or they lost the race. 8-( I'm not familiar with any victorious State House races around here where the candidate raised only $10k. could be wrong though.
