Lets Get a List of Candidates Going

I'm right with you. I wish more people would understand the importance of running for state legislatures.

About how much does it cost to run a race for NC House and Senate? In my neck of the woods you'd be looking at about $10k for a House seat and up to $20k for a Senate seat depending on your district and creativity.

About the biggest I have ever seen a state house run is $100k, and even at that high figure it not ony costs less per candidate, but less per voter than a US Congress race.

I have several levels of funding under plan. my topped out dream figure is $100k. my high median is about $70k, my low median is about $50k and my lowball is $35k

I have heard of State House races spending $10 or $20k but they were either unchallenged incumbents, or they lost the race. 8-( I'm not familiar with any victorious State House races around here where the candidate raised only $10k. could be wrong though.

WOW

Holy crap. No wonder the libs use VT as a testing ground. We're cheap!

My friend ran for state senate last year. I was his campaign manager. You know how much we had to work with? $750.00. No joke. It was a weird campaign and he was basically a last minute stop gap measure-- the 3rd Republican in a race for 3 seats. We actually did pretty well considering the odds against us.

I am blown away by those numbers. Do you think that's pretty standard all over the country?

Tennesee:

http://blogs.knoxnews.com/humphrey/2009/04/average-house-race-cost-43000.html

Average House Race Cost $43,000 in 2008; Senate $180,000

The National Institute for Money in State Politics says Tennessee's political parties and legislative candidates collected $23 million during the 2008 election cycle.

Here are some of the figures. (For the full Tennessee report, click HERE.)

-196 House candidates collected $8,438,759 for an average of $43,055.
-39 Senate candidates collected $7,012,743 for an average of $179,814.

I found this handy-dandy chart for NC races that covers money spent from 1992 to 1998, bear in mind that 2010 is significantly more expensive than 1998.

I honestly figure $75k is what will really be needed. It will still be tough at that level.

Tajitj, the states' hands are not tied, merely compliant. We all have the 10th Amendment, we're just afraid to assert it. The proper and Constitutional place to begin to restore the Constitutional order is at the states.

The first and most important step will be to demand that the Federal government cease and desist from doing those things not specifically authorized to it in the Constitution. There really is no mechanism at the US Congress to assert that. In the states, we do have just such a mechanism in the 10th Amendment.

No question that the US Government will continue to attempt to usurp that authority which properly belongs to the states, even after we declare our 10th Amendment sovereignty. But pieces need to be put in place in order.

Once we have a 10th Amendment asserted in the majority of the states, THEN we will have the impetus in the Federal Congress to affect the kinds of necessary reforms to prevent them from attempting to assume powers they have not been granted.

The bottom line is that without 26 or more states having asserted the 10th Amendment, there will be little or no foundation from which to go into the US Congress and demand the kinds of changes that need to be made. Once we DO have a majority of states asserting the 10th, however, we can quite directly point to a REASON for needing those reforms.

"Look, Mr Speaker, the States are nearly in the process of rebellion, and unless we affect the kinds of reform to restore the proper Constitutional Order, we stand in danger of dissolving the Union, ON OUR WATCH! We must not allow that to happen, and therefore we must take steps to restore the Constitutional order once and for all!"

Unless we start in the States, we won't HAVE that kind of argument or evidence to point at as a demonstration of why we need to affect such reforms.

You're right, start a Candidates for State office thread and I will start looking for people who qualify

Valerie sounds good.
A little critique. Get a tripod for the camera. A jumping camera comes across as amateur.

+1

also, a blouse instead of a t-shirt will go a long way towards instilling an aura of professionalism.

I met Valerie while going to see Ron Paul speak in Columbia, SC on November 9th. She's awesome, guys. The real deal. Everyone in Georgia should be pulling for her.

I am Mike Firsching. I am on the ballot for the 2 February 2010 Republican primary for the House of Representatives District 19 in southern Illinois. My policy and issue ideas as consistent with those promoted on Liberty Forest.

My website is: MikeFirsching2010.com

Please get her in touch with me. I am in Georgia, and I can do a MUCH Better job at those video interviews and website than she has currently. You can't use words like "bad" when describing policy. She has the image and the belief system correct but she needs coaching!

Hey I Private Messaged you! Get back to me!

Please add John Hostettler as a Senate candidate in Indiana. If we need to talk about why he deserves to be on the list, that would make for a worthwhile discussion.

He just announced today that he's running.

This is very exciting news! Took me by surprise actually (seeing as I live in what was formerly his congressional district in Indiana.)

Nice bump for Hostettler, I will be living in Indiana so hope I can be a part of his campaign!

And you got it Mike Firsching!

For Illinois, is Adam Andrzejewski the most Liberty-leaning candidate? Some of his views are troubling...

Im sure this one will meet criticism; but has anyone considered adding Roscoe Bartlett from Maryland; hes been an ally on many issues to Ron Paul and hes battling to a Liberal Democrat.

He may not be 100% like Ron Paul; but can we afford to give up the vote?

Also in MD: Susan Gatzanaga is running for Governor.
