Grassroots TV ads for Iowa - It's on

Not if he appears retired. What I meant is not that it makes him look rural, but that it makes him look disengaged. Retired.

Whatever. He's terrific, I just think there are a ton of better images.

this guy looks retired too! And became an Icon...

I agree with sailingaway... in the RP picture he looks pretty tired and, yes, older... not an image we need to promote
I agree with mstrmac1... the RR picture works because he is smiling and his eyes are sharp, yet wise with age. That's the kind of image we need to present.

Bottom line for me... good idea (RP looking rural) but we need a better picture that conveys competence and ability. I don't think this is the one to use. This is were we need help from the official campaign. I am sure they have tons of images. If they could make these available as a resource to the grassroots (no collusion, just available for free to anyone) it would make project like this (and others) easier.

Maybe a picture of RP with the same hat on... but sideways... to get the rural vote AND the youth vote... (or is that passe now?) :)

If one wants to market Ron's informal personality, take a camera crew and follow him around at home or on vacation IF he agrees.

My guess is that the official campaign has loads of this type of material already... I wish they would make it available to the grassroots for just this sort of project (and others).

Agreed if the material is of high quality. Personally, I'd love to see some of that more informal material. Great idea.

How about this for a script... based on the video from the campaign in 2008.

All Voice over:
America is a Great Nation... but great nations stumble at times.
Our economy is weak
government spending is out of control
our national debt continues to rise
taxes are too high
our jobs and our future are in jeopardy.
Great Nations stumble... but great nations rise again.
And so will America.
We have the answer to Restore America.
God gave us freedom... our forefathers gave us the Constitution.
There is hope for America... we have Ron Paul.

by grassroots supporters, I should think, not 'tea party activists', that means so many things to so many different people.

Also, are you sure you want to have 'Tea Party against Michele Bachmann' in your signature on a forum devoted to Ron Paul? It sets us up as enemies to her supporters, which is not what we want to present as our image, surely.

Well done!

The way I view it, the primary is going to boil down to the tea party candidate vs. the establishment candidate, if we allow Bachmann to take the tea party role we will lose. If we decide not to put labels on and to remain undefined the average voter will avoid us, not enough look at the issues or have understandings of civics and geopolitics. The average voter thinks 'me republican' or 'me democrat'. Among likely republican primary voters we've gotten to the point of 'big government bad' and 'constitution good', 'tea party for constitution, tea party against big government'. If we expose Bachmann as unconstitutional based on her votes for the patriot act, saying she advocates violating the 2nd and 10th amendment, and advertise tea party resistance against her, we have the best chance of beating her. Bachmann's not dirty enough to implode on her own until after the primary.

I agree that if Ron goes after MB in washington fashion or attacking her personally it wont end well, but if he attacks her on the issues, mainly calling her, indirectly, unconstitutional we have a chance of replacing her in the tea party slot.

the goal of my facebook page is to eventually downplay its ron paul roots then go on the advance, exposing Bachmann's unconstitutional votes.

on another note, I understand your point of view, the grassroots was far too radical and wacky last time and its causing us a lot of negative name association this time around. V for vendetta masks and truthers and all, but if we avoid attacking other candidates (like Pawlenty's lost chance against Romney at the last debate) WE WILL LOSE.

Your web page is yours. I just was speaking to having a 'tea parties against MB' signature line here. There is a lot of overlap between supporters as people figure out where they best fit with a candidate, and I think 'attack' isn't the right approach. It is just my opinion, on your signature line, though. Others may not take it the way I did.

And Pawlenty's problem was that he HAD attacked Romney on the air, then refused to stand behind it when he was beside Romney. It made him look like a coward. Refraining from attacking in the first place is a different thing.

A distinction needs to be made between attacking a candidate and attacking their record, or lack thereof. I think it's a really bad tactical move, during the primaries, to attack opponents. You will need their genuine support in the general.

Candidates behind in the polls NEED to attack the frontrunner they are trying to replace. I hate to agree with mainstream pundits, but their analysis was correct, Pawlenty's failure to outline vigorously why he, and not Romney, should be the establishment candidate finished his campaign. hell be out soon enough. If Ron doesn't give reasons for average voters, who dont delve deep into the issues, to choose him over Bachmann we might as well run an educational campaign

true Bachmann's record needs to be the target, if Ron were to bring up her benefiting from farm subsidies it would be disastrous, but confrontations ala Ron v. Rudy in 07 help the campaign

He can do that without attacking her.

Rudy attacked Ron and it backfired on him.

When it becomes time to launch "attack" ads. The way to do it is like this - using their own words:
