I also have an idea called "Thank you Ron Paul." It cuts to different people (from every age and range), thanking Ron Paul for his personal efforts to restore America. At no point does it say "vote Ron Paul" I've found people are generally more susceptible to messages when they think it's their own idea. Very rough example of the ad below:

(Uplifting music in background, like high tide, little brighter maybe)
First person: Thank you Ron Paul
Second person: For teaching us we need
Thirst person: sound money and a solid foundation
Fourth person: for our children
Fifth person: and our children's children
Sixth person: Thank you Ron Paul
Seventh person: For believing in American
Eight person: and never voting for more spending
(and so on, you get the idea)

There could be different versions of this, with completely different people each time, to keep it fresh for viewers. This would be very cheap to produce and could be even cut and sent from people to show authenticity. Positive, refreshing, creates intrigue and make's people think about what he has done for this country.

I've got a terribly cute pair of girls, 4 and 2 years old. If someone is putting something like this together, PM me, my girls love camera's and camera's love them.

An entire spot could be done in this manner (with kids delivering the message)... using kids to say all the lines with mommy, daddy and the grand parents standing behind them. Might make for a real 'heart strings' effect.

I also think it is critical to have a spot that speaks directly to the viewer. By this I mean on subject areas that affect them directly and would get their attention. Terms like 'sound money' would need to be reworked to focus on the effects. The term would be lost on most viewers. Other terms like 'fiat money' or sayings like 'end the fed' could easily be misunderstood. Instead, a short statement reflecting the BENEFITS to the viewer.

Remember "it's the economy, stupid"? That would seem to be the most obvious message to deliver. But, the message needs to be about the benefits that RP would deliver... not how its done. "Nobody wants to see how sausage is made" but most people really like the taste. We need to sell them on the taste... not the process.

There is an old advertising adage... sell the sizzle, not the steak. I know a lot of purists here hate the idea... but, it works. We need to go with what works. We need to keep the message simple and understandable... keep the target audience in mind and show them the personal benefits to them. Make it personal and address the issues that matter to them.

A general 'feel good' ad may not be the best way to go. A more direct message, connecting to the viewer about issues that matter to them personally seems to me to be the better method. The 'feel good' spots can be inspirational, if you can get the audience. They often turn into background noise because of their general nature. A spot addressing an issue of specific interest is much more likely to get their notice and to get them to listen... and take additional action.

This is were some serious research would be a really good thing. What are the main issues of the target audience? After making those determinations a proper message could be structured to achieve maximum results.

I think an introduction ad is a good idea, but I also think it should focus on his predictions. In theory, this should be pretty easy - 30 seconds of footage of empty storefronts and people in a foodstamp line or whatever, and a voice over. This has to talk about the economy I would think? Or are the social issues still what's going to drive this straw poll... This is where it'd be nice to have the campaign's polling info!

I don't know if this is the best clip, but I vote for something like that. As close to Ron as possible, or hubris. Just use Ron instead of trying to create a way to represent him.

VO: It's time to stop listening to the people who got us in this mess... it's time for Ron Paul

Now, the 'wacko' part may be too strong... but there is that perception out there and we could defuse it by addressing it in our own terms. This could be a risky course but it could be softened.

Instead of 'wacko' we could replace it with "we didn't listen when Ron Paul said..."
Then end with "It's time to listen to Ron Paul"

This ad seems exactly like what you are trying to accomplish..

This is actually a pretty good ad. While it needs some updating... and a stronger 'action statement' it is really not bad. I would suggest a rewrite of the copy to make it more personal than general. Instead of talking about 'America' and 'great nation' take it to the viewer's level and attempt to address the individual viewer... not in general, but how the issue is affecting them... personally!

Way cool. Please end it on an up note. Like with an eagle flying over the plains, or a mountain... something along those lines. You get the gist. Kind of like Ron Paul would bring America back up. We want to pull at people's emotional strings and give them hope.

Wow that Reagan ad is great. Great. It made me feel so optimistic, secure, happy.

Why do I feel that way about Ron Paul? Because of what he's done and who he is.

My take on the script is that it should stay with the positive vibe of the Reagan ad.

I think it's a good idea, but the most important thing for the Ames Straw poll is voter turn out, if we can just get nearly all the people who voted for Ron Paul in the Iowa Caucus to vote in the Ames Straw poll we'll win for sure.
