Grassroots TV ads for Iowa - It's on

I read something that showed Oprah was the most watched show in Iowa. It was several years ago so things may have changed... and, OW has left to do her own network... but, she is still on in reruns and on cable. With that in mind, and with two concepts posted earlier in this thread, here is a thought for targeting the female audience... and republicans in Iowa. I don't have this clearly in my mind right now... just the basic idea... so the wording is pretty clumsy.

We have small family groups... kids and parents... with the child saying the opening line
Family Group 1
Child (holding a piggy bank): I'm learning about financial responsibility from my daddy.
Father (holding the mothers hand, other hand on daughter's shoulder): We learned it... and agree with Ron Paul.
Family Group 2
Child (holding an American Flag): I'm learning about real liberty from my mommy.
Mother: We learned it... and agree with Ron Paul.
Family Group 3
Child (holding a baby doll): I learned that life begins at conception.
Mother (holding an infant): And we agree with Dr. Ron Paul.
Family Group 4
Child: I learned about safe guarding America from my daddy.
Father (obviously in the military): And I agree with Ron Paul.
All Groups together...
Eldest Boy: We've learned a lot because of Ron Paul.
Eldest Girl: It's Time we ask Ron Paul to lead.
Youngest Girl: We need Ron Paul.

pretty rough... hopefully some input might help clean it up if its worth pursuing.

I like this commercial...

The Paul campaign must get on the air early and often in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina with a simple message, Ron Paul is the only honest, principled leader in the race. Every other candidate has flipped and flopped and even flipped back again! Voters are cynical and voters are sick of it. Thus, this media strategy focuses on two simple types of commercials.
The first focuses on the other candidates. Each Commercial begins with the same scene: a picture or video of Ronald Regan and the voice is either Dr. Paul or Regan himself:
“Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican…”
Then Dr.Paul says: “So I want to let the my opponents speak for themselves.”

The ad then plays an old clip of an opposing candidate stating a position on an issue and then a new clip of the candidate with another position on the same issue! If video isn’t available, audio or print quotes should be used.

The ad ends with a voice: “When the Constitution is the foundation of your beliefs, your positions don’t change with the political winds. America deserves honest, principled leadership, where liberty is the primary goal. This is the time to restore The Spirit of 76. Vote Ron Paul”.

This type of ad could easily be made for each and every candidate for the nomination. We must remind voters of those candidates who voted and supported the war in Iraq, TARP, No Child Left Behind, Medicare Part D, the TSA etc.., in essence, we must go on the offensive without Dr. Paul attacking candidates directly.

The second type of ad is old clips of Dr. Ron Paul warning of the direction the country was heading and his predictions on the economy, liberty and war. This not only shows consistency and principle, it also shows Dr. Paul understands these issues and can lead the nation to recovery.

I would recommend doing research on where that Reagan quote came from. We have 4 photos at least of the 2 Rons.

Yeah, but we have quotes of Reagan invoking (endorsing) Ron...

And Ron led the Texas delegation fighting for Ron's nomination in the 1976 RNC, as well.

If you are talking about someone saying in a later election that Reagan hadn't endorsed anyone in THAT election, that didn't mean it wasn't an endorsement when it was. Obviously Reagan hasn't endorsed anyone in THIS election, all we would be saying was that at one time, he endorsed Ron. And Ron's views and votes have not changed. But we don't have to use it, I just think it is cool, with everyone invoking Reagan.

Another concept... all done by voice over... germane images or videos with inspirational music (tear jerker and pride type feeling)

--- ad start ---
Voice Over Artist:
Whatever happened to The American Dream?
Do we lose it... or just misplace it along the way?
Or... have we forgotten what it really is?

Politicians tell us its about possessions and the things we can buy.
But they don't understand the true meaning and power of the American Dream.
Because the it's not simply about thing we can buy...
The American Dream is an expression of our quest for personal freedom and personal liberty.

The American Dream is about making your own choices and charting your own course...
without the government telling you what you should buy...
or what you should think...
or how your money should be spent...
or how you should live your own life.

It's Time to Restore America...
It's Time to take back the American Dream...
It's Time for Ron Paul

(end with americana image... link to website)
--- ad ends ---

Specific topics could easily be inserted... for example:
In the case of Iowa... replace "or how your money should be spent..." with "or what you can grow..."
In the case of states where gay rights are a big issue... replace "or how your money should be spent..." with "or whom you should love..."

REALLY rough concept...

Father and son playing RISK... the father explains to his son that he should put his pieces on the board in a position that defends his territory and provides for a strong defense.
[cut to a scene slightly later with all the pieces on the board]
The son, of course, has spread his pieces all over the board. The father explains (hesitantly)... well, that's one way to approach it... but spreading yourself too thin might not be the best idea.
[cut to scene of the pieces grouped together, mostly on the borders of the US]
The father explains that this is a much better way of defending your country... without risking your forces when they are scattered all over the globe.

End line is about RP and how he supports a strong military to defend America without the expense and risk to our military personnel.

This would be a "strong defense" for the right... and a "get out of foreign wars" for the anti-war folks. Trying to win over the most people without pissing off the neocons. Maybe if they see the reason in a board game form they will begin to understand part of the issue.

On the Economy
There might be a companion piece using Monopoly and how printing money makes it less and less valuable... until it is worth nothing.

A Football Game for the defense issue
A football coach with his team huddled around on the sidelines... he is showing them a play but it looks a bit weird on the drawing board... the team appears a bit confused but marches off to follow the coaches orders (the coach should be played by an BHO look alike)
[cut to a closeup of the quarterback in position to take a snap from the center]
The quarterback begins making his calls... but looks around and sees his team scattered all over the field... with no linemen anywhere near the center... across the line some really huge linemen and linebackers are staring hungrily at the QB... the ball is snapped and the quarterback fades back with the defense hot on his heals... we see the QB looking around for help with quick cuts to his team members that are scattered and isolated all over the field.
The QB and the defenders (now at a full run) pursue the QB off camera and we hear (but do not see) a vicious impact and sounds of pain from the QB and officials whistles blowing. We hear the announcer say "ohhhh... the QB was brutally sacked deep in his own backfield" as yellow penalty flags fly across the camera while one official signals to the ambulance in the distance.
Ending line sums up that spreading your forces too thin is not a good plan... in fact, its downright stupid.
or... have the BHO lookalike coaches say... "hmmm, I guess that [pause] spreading the team [pause] too thin [pause] was a bad idea"... as the ambulance passes behind him with the lights flashing.

If properly executed, these ideas could leave a lasting favorable impression of Ron.

You could just have Ron Paul reading his statement of faith and it would work. Some of these counties in Iowa went heavily to Huckabee in 2008, 40-60% of the vote!

There isn't enough time to air an advertisement with Ron reading his entire "Statement of Faith" ... Personally, I like the game scenarios because of their compact form and readily understandable message by the masses.

But, there is time for the Iowa caucus. ;)

A commercial with Ron Paul's statement of faith would be perfect for the mid and southern states.

Statement of Faith is a bad idea. However, my approach of 15 to 30 second "buzz ads" for specific areas could address this.

Plug strong conservative Christian, married for X years, staunchly pro-life, delivered 4,000 babies, boom done.

If you want to be effective, that's probably the best approach.

What are the costs to run these ads? Have they been met?

Infomercial time is pretty cheap - comparatively, and if you advertize it with short spots, viewership could be decent.

How much time do you estimate a proper verbal rendering of his "Statement of Faith" would consume? We're not talking rapid-fire speech a la the House of Representatives. ;) I could understand BRIEF excerpts from Ron's "Statement of Faith" spoken by an actor, though, at strategic points of an advertisement. Lastly, I'd guess from Ron's own statements that he'd feel uncomfortable reciting his written words on faith in front of a video camera for promotional usage.

I found the Reagan endorse story. See: The Ron Paul Story - a video on youtube. There's also an Atlantic article about it.

Would if be cheesey to create an ad with Bachmann calling Ron the master of persistence? And using clips of last debate where Pawlenty says he agrees with Ron (I forget what issue) and just mix in other clips of media like Matthews saying "you could win this thing". It seems like it would knock off the not electable label.

How much does ABC 5 cost for their Saturday afternoon 12noon - 3pm - half hour blocks. For Saturday August 13.

Not sure. I'm holding off on getting any more pricing until the media plan is ready. The media plan is being handled by a RP supporter who's in the ad business.
