I think the infomercial thing has been proven to work. During the last cycle the campaign ran a 30 minute show... primarily focusing on RPs stance on right-to-life... a big seller in the Iowa market. The spot ran ONCE... and was poorly produced... but he went from 4% to 11% in the Iowa polls (real media polls, not online) almost overnight... I think there was a three day gap between the polls and the Infomercial running between those polls. I'm doing this off the top of my head so not all the details may be 100% accurate... but they are pretty close (it may have been 4 days between the polls).
Anyway... the point is that stuff worked. An infomercial could probably work again... but that's a lot of material to put together. If we used the same message, using the normal spot placement type campaign, we may see equal or much better results. Having it run only once would have played to a limited audience... I think multiple spots would reach a broader audience and get better results.
I think the statement of faith idea is good... but it does need to be shortened. I have been trying to put together a print piece and the idea might be converted to reach the target audience. The picture I was trying to find was of RP holding a very young child or infant. The header was to be "Dr. Ron Paul knows what every Mother knows..." with the message continuing on the back side "that life begins at conception".
I think it would be possible to combine the abortion and faith issues into a single, short spot. Push the abortion pitch on an emotional level (showing DOCTOR Ron Paul with a child) and address mothers specifically. Then, have the voice over that excerpts short, to the point segments from his statement of faith. It could be short... make the point... and touch viewers on an emotional level.
fyi... here is the type of image:
