Grassroots TV ads for Iowa - It's on

He must have been standing on a step - I'm 6'0" and have stood next to him - he's (RP) 5'6"-5'8" max...

Trying to wrap my mind around RP in platform shoes.... Just does not work!

[EDIT] just did a search, and while non-authoritative, ppl are saying he's between 6'0" and 6'1". I don't remember him being that tall.

My brother and I are 5'-7"

RP is closer to 6'

I think the infomercial thing has been proven to work. During the last cycle the campaign ran a 30 minute show... primarily focusing on RPs stance on right-to-life... a big seller in the Iowa market. The spot ran ONCE... and was poorly produced... but he went from 4% to 11% in the Iowa polls (real media polls, not online) almost overnight... I think there was a three day gap between the polls and the Infomercial running between those polls. I'm doing this off the top of my head so not all the details may be 100% accurate... but they are pretty close (it may have been 4 days between the polls).

Anyway... the point is that stuff worked. An infomercial could probably work again... but that's a lot of material to put together. If we used the same message, using the normal spot placement type campaign, we may see equal or much better results. Having it run only once would have played to a limited audience... I think multiple spots would reach a broader audience and get better results.

I think the statement of faith idea is good... but it does need to be shortened. I have been trying to put together a print piece and the idea might be converted to reach the target audience. The picture I was trying to find was of RP holding a very young child or infant. The header was to be "Dr. Ron Paul knows what every Mother knows..." with the message continuing on the back side "that life begins at conception".

I think it would be possible to combine the abortion and faith issues into a single, short spot. Push the abortion pitch on an emotional level (showing DOCTOR Ron Paul with a child) and address mothers specifically. Then, have the voice over that excerpts short, to the point segments from his statement of faith. It could be short... make the point... and touch viewers on an emotional level.

fyi... here is the type of image:

this seems to me to be purely anecdotal evidence. Because Ron jumped up in the polls doesn't mean that there is a direct correlation with the infomercial.

Unemployment is twice as high for those who've served in Iraq and Afghanistan. I think a commcerical about this would play well.

that would only affect a small demographic...

it's not about what WE would like to see addressed, it's about showing people what Ron Paul would do about the issues on their mind. With that said, the #1 issue according to every poll i've seen is the economy.

Which one are you?

btw: wanna talk to you about phone banking...

The one wearing the aloha shirt and flashing a shaka :D I'm setting up a conference call system, hope you'll be on...

Hay! Your the dude that rode his bike a really long way with Paul signs!

Little did I know what I was getting myself into

I like the google ads thing i seen but i don't have time to read all 26 pages of this thread. Cans someone tell me what kind of laws we would be braking if any, if we ran pro paul ads on tv. Would the money have to be added to donations? would it have to leave out "vote for" in it? Like the blimp you know? seems like a guy could get himself in some deep water if you ran the wrong ad.

Check you settings... this thread is only 7 pages for me. Go to: Control Panel & Settings>General Settings>Thread Display Options>Number of Posts to Show Per Page:... Max on dropdown menu is 40 posts per page.

Speaking of which, I think your good questions are better for another thread...

and DebK/Adam, if you want me to clean up this thread any, just send me a list of post #s to split off

Good idea although it sounds very time consuming. We could have a "Questions about the ad campaign" and "ideas for the Ad campaign".

Yes, it is time consuming. Especially for one person who is not in the thick of it... You could delegate to someone to make the lists, using post #s, for each thread, someone could review, and then I could go through the process of splitting them...

No to both questions. The script is not finalized, and we are still looking at voiceover and music. Visual is in progress. All ideas are needed and welcomed since the plan is to have a series of Ads.

Thanks for the info!
What do you need from us, right now, to help make this a reality?

Well, right now I could use some help organizing the info in this thread, as per Michael. If I could get 6 volunteers besides myself, we could take a block of 50 or so posts and divide them up between the questions and answers, and ideas.

As far as the ad that's in the works, I think we've got what we need right now. Ideas on how to promote the ad for fundraising would be helpful too.

Thank you Tarzan.

Thank you Michael, I'll see what I can do.

I know you are not at this point yet, but I am a motion graphics designer/video editor and I would love to work on a commercial to help spread Dr. Paul's message!

I actually prefer the 'impressionist' Reagan. You want to convey the impression of Reagan, not the reality? You can have a picture of Reagan and a picture of Paul and people can see the reality of the difference. Or you can evoke a memory and suggest RP as a satisfying substitute.Maybe he can 'fill a need' if you will.
I agree and think that kind of linkage would be to our advantage. I created a postcard in that vein [photo by Gage Skidmore] but it has not generated any interest yet. Anyway, I think some linkage would be a good thing... the other candidates are trying evoke Reagan... RRs endorsement of RP trumps what they have... and Reagan is considered godlike in the eyes of many Republicans (the audience we need to reach).

Sorry if you have answered this, but have you guys determined what type of ad you're going for? I remember hearing you say that you might go for the classic, Reaganesque "new day in America" ad, and then i've heard you might go negative on the other candidates? If you can disclose publicly i would appreciate it, and if not i understand :)

I saw a picture of a sign that said: "Washington needs a Doctor, not a Lawyer." I like that saying and thought it could be a good idea for an ad.
