Did you see the last of cspan

It's his remark the the fence that bothers me. I want a fence to stop the slave trafficking and to keep criminals out of this country.

Unless you build a fence to rival the Great Wall of China it ain't gonna work. It's a gigantic sink-hole for us to shove tax dollars into. I'm tired of everyone wanting symbolic, pointless, money sucking solutions to every problem under the sun just so they can feel good and dance around cheering while we become weaker and poorer.

It makes it look like we are making the illegals a scapegoat.

Ron has said this before. The illegal immigration problem is the governments scapegoat for the economic problems.

He also says the problem with illegal immigration is that we subsidize it, if America was doing well and there were no social programs for illegals, there wouldn't be much.

He once supported a fence, but the reality is much of the property the fence would be built on would be property taken by eminent domain.

He's the only candidate that is pushing for removing natural birthright for illegals. That's the tipping point.

When illegal immigration was brought up? I was very upset with Ron Paul's remarks. Did I hear them right? That he thinks that Americans are upset with illegal immigration because of the economy. And that we wouldn't mind them being here if we were all prospering? I believe I heard that Hillary said that also( on Rush today). That is not at all the reason I am upset with illegal immigration. It makes it look like we are making the illegals a scapegoat.

I saw that. Those 2 (questioner and cameraman) were NOT RP supporters. The caught him in a flip-flop. He said he thought the idea of a fence was rediculous. He should not back down when immigrants ask questions about immigration.

That video will come back on us.

Like someone said before, a fence would also keep us in. Why would you want to flee to Mexico? Martial law which the president already has given himself the power to implement. Imagine if you tried to flee out of the country and you get face to face with a gigantic border fence.

Now maybe if we got stairs on our side...

Dr Paul, far moreso than any other candidate, will demand punishments for employers who hire illegal aliens. Presto !! No jobs. No illegal aliens. Without jobs, they'll go home. Others talk about it, but Dr Paul keeps his promises.

But it's Dr Paul's honesty and patriotism that should keep us glued to him. And of course, his promise to keep us out of foreign wars, stop foreign aid, and get us out of debt, which btw stands at $9 trillion and growing.

Let us not allow minor differences to divide us or lessen our support for the greatest American to seek the presidency in the past 100 years.

With our support, Dr Paul can WIN !!! Believe it !!! Let's steel ourselves to the task of making it happen.

That is absolutely NOT a flip-flop. Watch the 2nd republican debate. He state on national television that the wall was the LEAST reason he voted for the (not sure which one) anti-immigration bill.

Ron Paul did NOT flip flop. Please research this more, you will see. Like I said, watch his answer during the 2nd debate.

Do you have a link for this?

He has never stated he would demand punishments for employers who hire illegal immigrants.

Um, we are talking a 10' high double fence with sensors on it.

I would actually opt for a steel and concrete wall if I had a preference, but that doesn't seem to be the choice.

I'm thinking something along the lines of Hadrian's wall myself, with lots and lots of interlocking machine gun firing zones and pre-sighted mortar and artillery. And motherfuckin robot drones surveiling the area.

That's the right kind of defense policy for dealing with suicidal terrorist goons.

In an age of drug resistant contagious diseases, and suitcase nuclear bombs we simply can not afford to leave our nation's perimeter wide open to infiltration.

look our economy is so weak right now that we have no choice but to close our borders, grant no amnesty, and possibly even build a fence and enforce it. Maybe in years to come when our dollar is beginning to strengthen, we can start letting them in legally, and maybe in years after that we could let them all in because we are doing so great that we need them to come and work the same wages as american workers. Thats more or less Pauls stance, and i tend to agree with it.

He's talking about legal immigrants.

He's saying the incentive to immigrate illegally could be removed by allowing more legal immigration. But you can only do that if you have a stronger economy.

I think Ron Paul is perfectly moderate libertarian on this issue. He certainly doesn't believe in keeping people out or tightening immigration overall, but rather enforcing laws we already have and not incentivizing illegal immigration via social welfare and free education/health care clinics. The libertarians who want fully open borders even with a welfare state (who say that we should attack the welfare state, and not the immigration policies, because both are wrong, but then forget that the reality is that the welfare state is a much harder institution to dismantle...) are just as wrong as the hardcore conservatives who want a militarized border and strict immigration laws and laws forcing companies to not hire illegals, are just as wrong as liberals who want amnesty and social welfare for all and cry racism at those who want to maintain national sovereignty and actually care that border states institutions are severely hampered by endless illegal immigration. All three positions are wrong on the matter, though the libertarian one is best in ideal, it falls flat on its face when faced with the reality of the situation. Ron Paul is absolutely right in his assessment of the issue, and i really think its one of his strongest issues even though he does not harp on it too too often.

Socialism / central planning does not work. There is no way government agents can determine what an optimal amount of immigration would be.

However, there is something to say about immigration controls:

Natural Order, The State, and The Immigration Problem - Hans-Hermann Hoppe

Also two chapters in Hoppe's Democracy, The God That Failed: "On Free Immigration and Forced Integration" and "On Free Trade and Restricted Immigration" are invaluable. (can't find these online :()

Those with diseases and criminal records will still come across our border illegally because they won't be allowed to migrate here. Also, if we have a healthy economy, our citizen birthrate will increase and we won't need immigrants.

Immigration, and extensive guest worker programs are perfectly acceptable to me. What's not acceptable is leaving thousands and thousands of border wide open to infiltration, and a vast underclass of illegals living in the shadows within the US.

We can have a secure border, AND have extensive lawful immigration and travel.

nothing a stick on TNT can't take of. They also dig underneath.

A bunch of razer wire and manned patrols with electronic survaillance will do the trick.

I would agree with that, the money has already beenprovidied for the fence so they might as well build it now, although I don't think it's gonna real make a huge difference in the long.

I think abolishing the welfare state will though
