Neither does the Julian Day Count. That says the day will be 2456282.5 and that = 21 December 2012. Today the Julian Day Count is 2456274.5

But NASA confirms that the earth, sun and center of the milky way will align on 12/21 and that it only happens every 26,000 years. No one really knows the effect that will have on the Sun or earth.

Here is a Fark.com headline from a few days ago.

The "Mayan Apocalypse" is ancient prophecy, if by "ancient" you mean "from the 1970s" and if by "prophecy" you mean "shroom trip"

I remember someone telling me about the Mayan calendar back in the late sixties or early seventies. I think it was because of the guy they are talking about in the original article. A friend was telling us about reading our hearing about him, I'm thinking.

Anyway I think it would be a tough call to extract an exact date from the Mayan Calendar. Even the Mayans couldn't do it when the last new cycle seemed due. I'm thinking it didn't so much signify an end as it was marking a new beginning. They kind of had an idea the time was near and when the Spanish showed up many figured the end of the old cycle was here. Maybe it was.???

Nobody uses Julian anymore, the Gregorian is the utmost modern and accurate calendar so you can be assured that December 21 happened about a year ago.

Yes it does. I was not in disagreement with that.

It's just that I have sort of made a hobby of calendars and know 2456282.5 of the Julian Day Count correlates with 21 December 2012. Leap years have nothing to do with any of this. Again, people need to plug "2456282.5" into their search engines and see what comes up.
