1000s of fish wash ashore, 1000s of birds fall from the sky in Arkansas

Actually no. As a little kid growing up I was obsessed with birds, and from that I still know that the bird in the cage is a female redwing blackbird. (the females are actually brown, not black/red)

Interesting. I knew they were brown, but didn't think they'd be barred in that way. Maybe she was younger. *shrugs* I'm no expert, so I yield to your knowledge on such. If so, it lends more credence to thinking this was an event that only damaged this flock. If it were water, or food, you'd think you'd see a broad number of species and more of a geographic spread.

Ahh yes, thank you for the correction.

I don't think this thing with the birds is a product of human interference.

Well just by watching the video it seems like it was definitely something natural. The bird moving on the ground had a broken wing so they obviously fell, so I don't think it was poison or a bird flu or anything like that.

Definitely interesting though.

Quite simple ladies and gentlemen.

Contaminated water.

As a former live long Great Lakes resident, we were treated to such displays caused by companies pouring crap into the waterways before EPA laws addressed the problem. It still happens on occasion as well.

You mean they weren't all saved by the EPA.....oh dear:rolleyes:

I am sure it has to do with lack of regulation...just ask Axis....
or could it be man caused global warming?

Environmental Laws were put in effect during the 1960's and 1970's due to the extreme amounts of garbage being thrown into the water and air by companies more interested in the almighty buck than if their customers could breath.

Apparently you're not old enough to remember acid rain, and you probably wouldn't know that it is only recently that one can swim safely in Lake Erie, for most of the summer. During those decades, one didn't dare swim in the lake nor eat fish taken from the lake as the fish contained heavy metals and other poisons.

Thanks to the Republican failed idea of what constitutes a Free Market, plus their pandering to Big Corp, EPA laws have been relaxed, or eliminated outright. So we have companies all along the Great Lakes once again pouring crap into the lakes, and other concerns such as the leather industry along the Hudson pouring millions of gallons of mercury laden effluence into that river.

While there isn't really enough info to form a concrete opinion concerning this particular topic, the fact that EPA laws are necessary simply isn't open to debate.

Added in Edit:

And no, I am not speaking of the silly notion of Cap and Trade, nor do I buy into man-made global warming either. Go demonize someone else.

Regardless of whether or not the laws are on the books, it becomes the pandering that is at the heart of the mess.

The environmentalists and EPA have been demonized, rightfully so because they are too corrupt to stop this kind of pollution. They are too busy in bed with corporate America to form to laws like requiring MTBE which has polluted our water supplies and cap and trade for which their buddies profit from rather than protect the environment.

On the other side you have those that say we should have no regulation and the solution is to take those that have harmed your property to court. By that time it is too late the damage is done permanently or for life time and in some cases lives are harmed. With this solution all too often the polluters hide behind the corporate veil and then go out of business. Therefore no recourse.

I am a hard core Libertarian these days but see no way around not having environmental regulation. However we need laws that prosecute the individuals regardless of corporate status or whether they are still in business.

I live in NY and it is an environmental disaster area. Around me we have corporate polluters that have destroyed the water table in my area that are out of business, so no recourse. We have GE that has refused to clean up the Hudson River. Because of them we still cannot eat the fish and our cancer risk is increased from the baking PCB's. Much of this probably before the EPA, but we do not need regulation, right?

Across the river from me we have Indian Point nuclear power plant that has polluted a lake the size of Manhattan under ground as well as the hudson river. Our thyroid cancer rates are the highest in the country. Where is the EPA?

This can all be explained simply. There was a change in barometric pressure to such an extent that the birds could no longer breathe. A large mixture of methane and C02 was detected shortly after the event. Scientists believe that Roseanne Barr must of had refried beans that night. In other news bean futures are at an all time high.

I can't figure this one out for the life of me folks.....

How do you get all of only one species to die at the same moment?

It was only one mile . Could they be the only ones in flight , fleeing the area at the time ?

Species = flock. A large flock flying at a certain altitude at a given moment would expose the flock to a unique set of weather/atmospheric conditions.

Of course, the kicker NOW is that dead blackbirds seem to be popping up in Louisiana....
