Why Ron Paul is handling the New Republic piece properly

This could just as easily be spun as pandering. But just for kicks, gimme some names of possibles.

Every politician except Paul routinely panders. Pandering is a great American tradition in politics. Nobody is going to reject Paul because he pandered to the black vote.

Being labeled a racist is death.

So which is worse, being a panderer, or a racist?

Picking the specific VP is a job for the campaign staff. They need to find someone who shares Paul's politics, or at least is not against his politics. I personally thought Colin Powell could have been a home-run, but it looks like he is fawning over Obama. I've heard JC Watts suggested, and that would be acceptable to me. Walter Williams has been tossed around as a potential VP for months. I think a prominent black actor could be a win also, Bill Cosby, Denzel Washington? A relative unknown could be good too, if they're charismatic and have a good resume, somebody from the military perhaps.

A high-stature black VP would snuff these bogus charges permanently, it would create media buzz, and it would give the campaign another representative that could do appearances. The VP should be someone that shores up preceived weaknesses in Paul. A youthful, charismatic, good speaker, with defense or foreign policy chops would be perfect.

This, seriously, is what Ron Paul needs to do right now. It's the only thing that could get me energized. I think between NH and this story the campaign is heading in a very bad direction.

In my experience, people who cry racism the loudest are usually closet racists.

They are in denial.

I never thought the "whoever smelled it, dealt it" rule would be applied to things outside the scope of what we all used to use it for as kids. :D

Mises, for my first post in these forums, I would just like to say....

Thank you for putting things back into perspective.

Ha ha, seriously, though. The people who cry the loudest have a lot of guilt for whatever reason so they feel like they have to point it out to make up for it or something.

The New Republic has a history of running smear articles. The mainstream media won't touch it. The only reason they will is this 24 year old dweeb is willing to go on TV not realizing he's ending his journalistic career.

I think Courtney's just trying to stir things up, personally. She's been making racism accusations for months now.

11/28/07:

That's it, I've been here for MONTHS (:D) just trying to cause trouble.

Well, I'll say this. I certainly saw smoke from before I joined this forum in November. And though I've sensed an underlying agenda going on with many of Paul's core supporters (the one's who've known about the man for years) I could have never predicted the fire that was to be uncovered by TNR.

Perhaps the far-right, narrow-minded and hateful mindset that is on display in many of those letters, including when taking into consideration the target audience of those letters (which allows for taking all of the letters in proper context) doesn't bother many of you people here. That's fine with me.

But it bothers me, as well as others here. So yes, I've been on top of this topic from, in essence, since I've joined here. I make no apologies either, for if anything, I was correct in my being concerned....

And in the next fews days (a week maybe?), short of a small blurp here and there, it will fade away with the rest of the news cycle like it has numerous times in the past (6 months ago, for example).

Yup.

Umm, then why are you here?

I assume you meant to say.. "It could have easily been predicted as Ron Paul gained popularity that these accusations would resurface again like it has many times in the past."

Typos happen. All is forgiven.

Has Ron Paul ever made a racist comment that you know of? Answer please.

You call yourself a libertarian, yet you want to debate "crimes of the mind", with no good evidence. Since when did libertarians support the thought police anyway?

What I think is funny is that Courtney claims to be a Libertarian, but being called racist, or closet supremicist by True Believers from both sides is something new and shocking.

News Flash: Get used to it, that is what the True Believers do to Libertarians. Divide and Conquer. That is what the idiot who penned those newsletters was doing. State's rights = racism, you hate the poor, etc. etc.

It is the straight out of the Harcore Leftist and ex-trotskyite Neocon playbook: "but don't you know, Ron Paul and libertarian are teh racist!"

The TNR article had all the usual True Believer crap in it with the same tired newsletter quotes (that have already been debunked) thrown in. You know, the usual shit, Lincoln sucks, poor defenseless Israel, hates minorities, blah blah. I'm surprised that the author didn't say that Ron Paul wants to dismantle the federal government so he can eat all the poor people's babies, snatching them out of the gutter from the hands of their dead mothers.

Seriously, I've heard hardcore leftists call Murry Rothbard a holocaust denying antisemite without mentioning that Rothbard was a Jew. In fact, Paul hates Jews so much, like it says in those newsletters (the code words for "Jew" are "Isreal" and AIPAC), that he has pictures of Mises and Rothbard as the only pics in his office

I thought Paul was different.

What planet do you live on?

Fox News has already run with totally unfounded accusations that Ron is a truther nut. Do you really think they care about journalistic integrity?
