White House hints at crackdown on recreational marijuana

BY JORDAN FABIAN

White House press secretary Sean Spicer on Thursday suggested the Trump administration will step up enforcement of federal laws against recreational marijuana.

“I do believe that you’ll see greater enforcement,” Spicer said, while adding the exact policy is “a question for the Department of Justice.”

It’s the latest sign President Trump is poised to take a tougher approach than the Obama Justice Department did in states that have legalized the use of recreational marijuana.

...

Spicer telegraphed the administration won’t take a get-tough approach against medical marijuana, saying Trump believes in its ability to "comfort" people suffering from debilitating diseases.

But he said he takes a different view of recreational marijuana, linking it to the abuse of opioid drugs in states across the U.S.

There is little evidence showing a link between abuse of the two drugs. Some researchers believe medical marijuana could help reduce demand for opioid-based painkillers.

Let's all pretend to be surprised.

Corporate marijuana good.

Personal marijuana bad.

The corporatism shall reach every corner of the economy.

Tougher approach than Obama? What, does the Hill forget all those POT RAIDS under Obama?

Did the Press Secretary miss Donald Trump saying that he was ok with cannabis in states where it is legal?

I haven't heard Trump himself say anything about enforcing federal cannabis laws in states where it is legal.

If they do start that shit, I will be the first one out protesting, but call me skeptical.

President Trump: Legalizing Drugs Will End the Violent Cartels
“We’re losing badly the War on Drugs. You have to legalize drugs to win that war. You have to take the profit away from these drug czars.”

If you didn’t hear about this, it’s because virtually the entire mainstream media has been silent about it. The mainstream media is owned by just six corporations and relies for the bulk of its funding on pharmaceutical advertisers.

In a report from High Times, President Trump is referenced as stating that he is “a hundred percent” in favor of medical marijuana and added that legalizing it is “good in some ways.”

The comment was made during an interview conducted by Bill O’Reilly while Trump was still a candidate, and indicated to many people that he had an open mind on the matter.

High Times reported as follows:

“I do want to see what the medical effects are,” he said.

After repeating this twice, Trump then volunteered his complete support for medical marijuana, continuing with his pro medical marijuana comments—in spite of O’Reilly’s claim that “medical marijuana is a ruse.”

Faced with Trump’s support for medical marijuana and his personal familiarity with medical cannabis patients, O’Reilly conceded that “I know, and they’re taken care of.”

Aside from his support for medical marijuana, the most interesting comment that Trump made about his position was that “in some ways, I think [legalization] s good.”

But it appears that Trump may have been holding back his real beliefs, in the interests of gaining votes from older generation conservatives.

Trump said in the 1990s, as a private citizen, that marijuana should be legalized in order to end the war on drugs. If he actually does this now that he’s the President, he would end the private prison industrial complex, reform America’s police problems, and end the violent drug cartels.

It would certainly stun those who believe he is an ultra-fascist dictator, and he would probably be remembered as one of the greatest presidents in American history.

“We’re losing badly the War on Drugs. You have to legalize drugs to win that war. You have to take the profit away from these drug czars.” he said in the Miami Herald back in the 1990s.
Is it possible that as Trump grew older, his memory deteriorated and he no longer remembers how corrupt the system is? Or, is it more likely that Trump just held back from stating his position in order to gain the votes he needed to infiltrate the oval office?

He has also said: “In terms of marijuana and legalization, I think that should be a state issue, state-by-state. … Marijuana is such a big thing. I think medical should happen — right? Don’t we agree? I think so. And then I really believe we should leave it up to the states.”

But when he was campaigning for votes, he portrayed himself as the “law and order” candidate when it came to drugs.
It has led many to wonder if Trump actually trolled the entire two-party establishment and plans to finally end the war on drugs as the nation’s first incognito third party president.

Only time can tell. For now, most Americans are waiting to see.

The dude doesn't even sound like he realizes that cannabis is legal in some states... and he refers to the Dept of Justice, he doesn't sound sure of what he is saying at all.

I mean, he is saying that recreational is different than medical, and that the administration would look into greater enforcement possibly on recreational - but he doesn't ever distinguish between recreational use in states where it is illegal vs. states where it is legal..

I would refer to the Dept of Justice as well. This guy obviously doesn't know.

Pretty sure Donald was pro choice and for AWB back in the 90s, too.

Just another example of how you can't nail down the Trump administration's stance on ANYTHING.
Not really, if you look at his political appointments, and who he has tried to bring into his administration then you can nail down the Trump administration stance. It's not like Trump is a policy wonk, you just have to look at the people who he goes to for policy advice. This is not suprising when you look at the people he has been listening to for the last year. John Bolton.. Rudy Guliani.. Cambridge Analytica's sock puppet accounts will say that he is scamming the deep state though.

Are they going to escalate the war on drugs to go after people who are anti war so they can have their world war 3?
