See fellas, the key phrase for mitchell was "gender identity," as opposed to "sex." A person's gender identity is just whatever they identify as, regardless of any objective facts. That's the beauty of this neologism. It's like how an Earthling can identify as a Martian. That doesn't mean he's a Martian. It just means that's his species identity.

I don't know how universal this is (I'm guessing it's fairly universal because girls in HS tend to value privacy... it's an awkward time), but in my high school's locker room, each shower had its own curtain and each toilet had its own stall. I had gym for four years, including an aquatics unit, and never once saw anyone strip down or even inadvertently expose an area that is usually covered.

That's certainly not how our showers were when I was in High School, and it's not how the High School in my town currently is. The locker rooms in our school have open, communal showers. I'm not sure what this school has, but it's not likely that they would actually undress inside a shower curtain and then put their clothes back on inside the shower curtain. They would perhaps shower inside a shower curtain but would still have to get undressed out in the open in front of everyone.

Maybe the idea that the boys in the locker room with the gay male are probably better able to defend themselves than the girls in the locker room with the transgender "but I'm still hot for women" boy. Of course that raises the question, why not let the gay boy who isn't transgender use the girls locker room? Seriously? If that's where were going with this, why should "gender identity" by the deciding factor instead of sexual preference?

I have no solid opinion, to be honest - which is why I go back to my original stance that if the girls are ok with it, then they should allow it. If not, then make some other arrangements if they are scared of being harassed in the male facility.
