What is the most embarrassing political belief you used to hold but no longer do?

I used to think our foreign policy was dictated by moral motives. That we just had bad luck with the outcomes. That we were well intentioned but unforeseen circumstances always ruined our intent.

Anencephaly.

I used to think that death was the worst outcome of "our" policies.

In social studies in grade 9 when we learned about lasseiz faire I thought it was evil, I thought the government should own all big industries such as oil, telecoms, rail, airlines, mines, etc because greedy capitalists would exploit poor people if they owned them.

Why do you not believe this anymore? You should believe this still, because the Catholic Catechism says:

It is the role of the state to defend and promote the common good of civil society. The common good of the whole human family calls for an organization of society on the international level.

Pope Paul VI said:

This international collaboration on a worldwide scale requires institutions that will prepare, coordinate, and direct it until finally there is established an order of justice which is universally recognized….

Merits aside, I'm pretty sure this is not a political belief.

It was a major factor in me being pro-life at the time, and thinking that democrats were immoral, because I naively thought republicans didn't have sex until marriage.

This was back in the days of Dan Quayle and family values and all that bull-dink the republicans were trying to claim as their own.

OK, my reasons for believing that are very different than yours, in that case.

I'd like to repeat this question. Eduardo, can you possibly defend the Catholic Church on this? Because that's honestly like one of the most evil things I've ever seen. Especially the "International" part.

I'm in the same boat. I used to be pretty much pro-war in my teens but when Ron Paul ran for president soon after I graduated high school, I completely shifted my views and should have known better. Other than that, my views were pretty much the same: government is terrible.
