What is the most embarrassing political belief you used to hold but no longer do?

Total freedom is utopia. About the only people that ever experienced it were the mountain men.

IMO, Utopia is a horrid little book that illustrates a perfect lack of freedom. I wouldn't want to live there for any reason.

Junior high school days logic: wars keep the population from going out of control

I thought of another embarrassing belief I once held. I once believed that compromise was a good thing. I see it very differently now. One may not be able to win each and every battle all the time, but compromise involves giving up and going on as if the thing was not really worth fighting for. I'm not sure why I ever thought that was the way things had to be.

I thought riders on bills were a good thing, because there was just too much stuff to vote on each and every individual item and they only attached good things as riders.

No J/K... never thought that.

I used to believe that Democrats were anti-war & pro civil liberties, and that guns were dangerous.

I used to think CNN was unbiased and the most dependably reputable source of news.

Can you show ANY method that has brought utopia in the history of mankind? Wars have been tried more times than not and nearly always there is no change.

Fun fact: The literal meaning of utopia in Greek means "no place". It was coined by Sir Thomas More in 1516 in the eponymous Utopia to describe a political fantasy world that does not exist anywhere and could not exist. Thus, the word itself recursively implies that no place is a utopia.

I started college at age 19. I actually believed that going to school would pretty much make you a Democrat and that Democrats were higher on the evolution scale. Republicans were less formally educated and just not as smart.

Man, now that is just dumb.:o:o:o

Oh yes, I was indoctrinated with these demographic statistics as well.

Also the other one was that liberals have higher incomes.

Well, consider an average person with all else things being equal besides income. If that person has a sweet job and no need to wake up out of the matrix and everything's going swell, then yeah he's going to wake up every morning and enjoy the beer and circus and believe what master tells him, and he wont ever go searching down the rabbit hole. But if your income is low and you wanted to find out where all your money is going, it probably leads you to be a conservative.

Exactly. But plenty of wars have been fought trying to gain it.

Yeah, and many have been fought so that the bigger, stronger tribe over the hill wasn't able to come over the hill, rape the women, sell the children into bondage and eat the men.

The system that is setting itself up, is preparing to do just that, figuratively and literally.

So, now what?

i used to think hillary clintons original proposal for free healthcare in the early 90s was a terrific idea. i was about 16.

i cried in happiness for the iraq people when saddams statue was pulled down. i was about 27. then funny enough it was exposed as a planned propaganda stunt that the media helped put out there.

then thank god!!, the govs stories on 911 started to stink. then i found ron paul in may 2007. i think i have redeemed myself lol!

I used to believe that the media truly reported the news; just the facts, no dog in the fight, journalism with no bias. Boy was I fooled.
