I'm all for educational freedom, but there are plenty of subjects and areas of learning that a book at home simply can't teach and are best left up to people that have worked their entire adult life to educate the youth and have the credentials to do so.
Credentials? Is this why practically NO public school will allow someone who has actually worked within a certain field to 'teach' it? Why not have actual accountants teach accounting or actual scientists teach science? The answer is because they actually got degrees in their chosen fields as opposed to having drop those more rigourous courses in favor of a 'degree' in 'education'. What you don't seem to be aware of is the fact that something like 80% of our current public school teachers actually started out going for a specialized degree and couldn't make the grade so....they changed their majors to 'education' and STILL graduated with the BOTTOM 25% of their classes! THESE are the folks that, for the most part, are your public school teachers. Just for grins and giggles, watch most any TV game show that requires contestants to answer questions (trivia or real knowledge) and what you'll see is the public school teachers most always coming in at the very bottom of the pack. They have been 'taught' how to 'teach' and, sadly, know very little else. Most parents are infinitely more qualified to inpart wisdom, learning methods and actual knowledge to their children, they've just been, as have you, brainwashed into believing that some teaching certificate or degree is necessary to actually teach.
