Yeah, but I mean life is about more than learning lessons from a book. Much of success or failure has to do with how you interact with others and get along with others... which is something you learn in school.
Aren't most home schoolers religious fundamentalists? How do home schooled kids learn social networking skills?
I hope you're joking.
I was homeschooled K-12. Throughout my life, I've met more socially apt homeschoolers than socially apt public/private schoolers. Because I wasn't pigeonholed into socializing only with people my own age, I learned how to converse with people of ALL ages, old and young. It grew the amount of respect I have for all views and generations.
Very few of my homeschooled friends were fundamentalist. These days, I know more atheists who homeschool than fundamentalists.
I graduated from college at 18 with a 3.895 GPA and was hired in my field prior to graduating at a salary higher than my co-workers who were in their late twenties with BFAs from prestigious colleges and several years of experience.
The kind of social experience I have helps me immensely, especially in situations like the ones I'm dealing with now... Going into GOP meetings and dealing with people 3+ times my age, having their expectations of someone my age and gender shattered (hm, wonder where they got those expectations?), and being able to have my ideas and suggestions accepted.
Being homeschooled... I had a very good education, I was able to spend extra time and focus on subjects that engaged me. And to top it off, I learned how to act like a grown up, take some responsibility for myself and my actions, and acclimate to whatever environment I'm in at the time.
People need to stop assuming and applying sterotypes to homeschooled people (read: adults at this point in many cases). Dr. Paul would be horrified at the misconceptions passed around.
Oh, and there are certainly no more "messed up" homeschoolers than there are "messed up" public schoolers. If you could do a quick check of the number per capita in jail or rehab, I could guarantee you the vast majority of them went to public or private school.
