What about the Amish?

Find an Amish preacher. Give him the message and Presto! Dress extremely conservatively, when you contact the Amish.

The more I think about this the better I like it. I doubt the Amish are brainwashed by the media. They may be very receptable to an honest man in the White House.

We have Amish and Mennonite communities in Indiana and Ohio.

His pro-life and anti-war stance is a perfect springboard for discussion.

Yes!

Amish and the Government
Most Amish view the government with some distrust. Amish feel the government exists to protect the good, but do not agree with all its laws. For example, they are pacifists and avoid conscription and war. Legally, most Amish do not sue or become involved in lawsuits. They will not hold a public office, but do vote and pay taxes.

Yes they vote and they sound like Ron Paul revolutionaries?

Is there anybody with connections to the Amish?

Are you Amish?

It really depends on the Amish community. I live in PA and it really depends on where you go. Some communities I know, the Amish go to Wal-Mart and eat at restraunts and they have someone drive them by motor vehicle. Other comunities you will never see that. So, I'm under the impression that there are a lot of Amish that do vote. The Amish are the perfect group to have band togather to support Paul.

I never realized this untapped resource before. I guess I have some work to do now.

I've tried giving slimjims to a few Amish folks up at the Mackinac conference back in Sept... They took the handouts but just stood there and looked at me like a deer in headlights. Either they're too shy to talk to most of us 'outsiders,' or they're not allowed to. They may reserve their chats with outsiders when they're doing work for ya or selling ya something. That's just my impression...

I used to deliver plywood to Amish cabinetmakers. Most will talk to you just like anyone else.

that'd be rad.

The Amish coming out over the hill en masse to vote for Paul.
Coming to our rescue like some Dwarf Army from Lord of the rings! hahaha.

Amish around here vote & sometimes they'll vote in blocks.

Ron Paul has a message the Amish will love.

Put up signs at feeds mills, hardware & grocery stores.

Amish around here read Farm & Dairy & The Budget. Letter to the Editor to either of those papers is a good idea.

My parents live about 10 minutes from a predominantly Amish community in Plain City, OH. They are really great people. From what I know their general views would definitely be in line most with Dr. Paul among the other candidates. My dad is friends with a custom home builder who is Amish (incredible craftsmanship) in Plain City. I will have him discuss that with him. I turned my dad onto Dr. Paul in December and he's already converted 8 people. I agree with previous posters, once you get the word spreading by a prominent member of the Amish Community many will listen.

There are also a few scattered Amish farmers near my Papaw's house in West Virginia. I'll see what I can do there - I visit about once a month.

In TN I have yet to run into any Amish areas.

I guess it goes to show how ignorant we can be sometimes (me, in this case).

Amish cabinet makers get to use plywood? Isn't that like.... cheating? Where is the hand felled quartersawn oak?

Damn it! I can't find any information on who these people support and who is working on this.

If we need horse and carraige rides ready, we need volunteers!

When I went to an Amish tourist site in Indiana, I asked the tour guide if the Amish voted, since the 2000 election was about a month away, and I she said it was against their religion, but I'm not entirely sure.

I deal with the Amish a lot here in Wisconsin. They are organized into communities and led by a "bishop." So if you get the Bishop of a community to endorse the idea of voting, the entire community will likely vote.

We use the Amish to supply us with pastured poultry and beef in the summer time. They are tremendous farmers, and would definitely like the fact that Dr. Paul stands for the small family farmer. That is their livelihood. Get the "For Family Farms" slimjim and pass it out to them: http://www.ronpaul2008.com/files/FarmerSlimJim.pdf These are the issues that are important to them. Just be respectful to them, and don't expect them to talk a lot. If you know people who have regular dealings with the Amish, it is better to work through them.

The Amish and other folks like them that practice small-scale family farming are our hope for the future in supplying America with healthy food, instead of the industrialized food that big corporations want to feed to America and is making us one of the sickest countries of the world. The Amish need Ron Paul as much as the rest of us do.

If the Amish people united to vote for Ron Paul, imagine the headlines! Many I know feel the Amish people are people to be looked up to and envied for their simple life. They are good and wholesome and have the fortitude and integrity to live as they do. I, personally, have the utmost respect for them and strength as a people. If we could gain their support, that would be absolutely HUGE in many many ways. If THEY saw him as a good man, many many others would as well.

Them Votin Amish

Living on the border of Lancaster and Berks County all my life I have been in constant contact with the Amish. My whole family trades, works, and lives side by side a few anabaptist sects including (Amish and Mennonites). When I was a teenager and working at a local Farm Market i was surprised by how well informed these people were. Some followed the Philadelphia Eagles, some conversed regularly with their UPS drivers about everything, there were a few who would go to neighbors houses to watch TV events...
Though Floyd Landis was Mennonite his amish neighbors followed him like he was their own. They go to townhall meetings and are very aware of the world of us "english."
All I'm saying is... be respectful. Don't be arrogant like them Mitt Romney mormon doorknockers or condescending Protestant missionaries. Speak on their level. For not having college degress they have established a very intricate society that is to be admired.
also Amish tradition created a highly patriarchical community. So I would suggest man on man action, if they will here ya, they might tell the women folk and there ya go... A totally untapped voting resource.
A big thing to point out to the amish and mennonite is the decreasing value of the dollar and how Ron Paul's plan will increase our economy and make expensive missions trips easier and less expensive... Amish are business oriented... explain that perspective....
of course anti-war and pro-life arguments are also necesarry to winning over those blessed people.

P.S. Ron Paul being raised outside Pittsburgh and attending Gettysburg College may help... Cause in essence he lived among the communities being targeted.
