ahh, yeah. I almost posted "only" myself. Often these types of storms are worse than the major ones because the energy is spread out and takes days to leave the area.

That's a lot of water on the NW side of the storm. Hopefully the people there have learned from the past.....

50-60mph gusts being reported in the keys. I just called my friend that moved their earlier this year. Man, talk about a great welcome to the keys,

My point is,,or was,, that these are ALL unpredictable.

And by extension All predictions are suspect.. Even mine.
I have watched several and stood in the Eye a couple times.

Don't Panic when they are 2000 miles away. Don't panic when they are 1000 miles away.
or 100,, or 10.. Don't panic.
Panic will kill you faster than the storm.

And there are so many variables that weather reports are wrong more often than correct..
It might hit,,it might miss..
Don't Panic and Deal with it. Hell.. I have watched the projected path change several times in the past few days..and so far they have been wrong more than right. It will go where ever it wants regardless of what the Government agency says.

Another example of unpredictable storms:

Charley in 2004 was expected to head to Tampa, but about 3 hours before landfall turned toward the northeast and hit Punta Gorda.

yep. we are definitely concerned about this storm. obviously it doesn't need to be a direct hit. 50-100 miles west of that track has pretty much the same results. Water getting pushed up in to the bay. Look outside. Already seeing that low level NE flow. Definitely a storm coming.

lol, thats like when charley came and everyone evac tampa to orlando. meh. RNC will never have the convention in FL again after this. This will also hurt any chance Florida has for other stuff like the Olympics etc.

You take a big gamble hosting an event in FL in late august. This is why.

The biggest problem for Tampa will be the surge. TWC just showed their projection for 5-7' surge in Tampa Bay. That will flood the hotels, and convention center. Not only that they mentioned that the bridges will have to be closed once the wind picks up. There is NO way the RNC will go on as scheduled. I also doubt the Ron Paul events will be allowed to go on.

Spread the meme that we need to open relations with cuba so we can fly our planes over their airspace and get better fixes on tropical weather.

Want to know A reason why there is so much uncertainty with this store?

Because our recon can't/won't go over cuba! We should be getting flights over cuba to get a better idea of what the south west side of this storm is doing.

To get a much better fix on the data, we need drops around cuba. I am sure this data would allow the models to function better and give us a better idea on the track of this storm.


So it really is a crap shoot unless you are able to some how get reliable data on the pressures and winds over and coming up from the south west over cuba are doing.

for the record, this storm has a history of firing more organized convection overnight. I am calling intensification to cat 1 at the 2am advisory. Many folks in S.E. florida may awake a growing category 1 system in 12-18 hours from now.

Wrong. Our Hunters already have permission from the Cuban govt. to go into thier airspace.... and they do. The hunters NEVER go over a Hurricane over land. There is too much danger nothing to do with politics.
