Tampa Convention Hurricane Watch

And what you saw was a completely unrelated piece of "Normal Florida Weather".

which in august, typically includes tropical storms... thank you.

un-related? you are just wrong about that pcosmar.

our typical summer storms happen when the gulf and atlantic sea breezes merge over land.

there is no such thing as a front in florida that moves from the North East. storms moving to the south west mean one thing. tropics.

While I will agree with you that some of what I saw yesterday from other posters was a strange combination of normal FL summer patterns, showers moving along as part of the stubborn boundary that's been around for several days, etc., there were still bands impacting parts of Florida yesterday. They just were not up in the parts people were so eagerly posting photos of.

North Central Florida today? Windy, the few usual puffy clouds, but cooler and yesterday the skies were mostly clear. It may rain later, as it does most summer afternoons.

By Tuesday/Wednesday, though, I would expect to see quite a lot of rain and wind if the storm stays east~ish in its new projected path. This storm is really stretched out, so a "miss" is only a miss as far as the storm surge and the worst convection. There's also, at this point, the chance for it to slow down and swirl around for a little over the Gulf before it goes elsewhere.

I agree with you about the hysteria. I always have to stifle a laugh when the media rushes to the same few neighborhoods to show "hurricane damage." If you zoom out, with about 95% of storms, you will see that most neighborhoods are fine. The power might be out for a bit (much more common in N. Florida because of how many trees we have here), there might be a leaky roof or a crushed car or some MIA lawn furniture... but houses are not flattened and the place really doesn't look like the war zone shown on television. However, I am still logically concerned about flooding here, and Tampa is so shittily planned that even a little rain and storm surge could complicate the RNC.

Since we're getting screwed by it, I welcome some complication.

for the sake of argument, it didn't rain yesterday in central florida, just a light mist.... the bands I posted off shore most certainly were part of this system. if you go back in time on some of the weather blogs, you will see the imagery of isaac consuming the low. There was even talk about the possibility of that low splitting off into the southern gulf away from isaac and forming another system as isaac moved more north and east. This didn't happen because that low, which had it's own outflow boundaries was overcome by the larger more powerful system.

We're dead center of the projected path, so time for some hurricane prep. Looks like it will hit on the 7th anniversary of Katrina. I remember that one well as our area took a major hit with that one.

You can watch the storm here,, for as long as the stream lasts. Down Town Key West.
http://www.liveduvalstreet.com/

Right in front of Sloppy Joes.
;)

NO Storm Un-bump

Watched this live stream all day. There is no storm.
Hell,, it was a rainy day with no sun.. that is as bad as it ever got..

No 60mph sustained wind.. a few 30 mph gusts,,,maybe.
The party goers were the only entertainment ,,boring otherwise.

It is the storm that wasn't.

Yeah, for Tampa, that's true.

I would appreciate any prayers for New Orleans area...it looks like it has us in its sights right now.

Possibly Cat 2, and some have not even finished coming back from Katrina yet.

It might have been lame in Key West, but not further north. Just had a 50 mph gust and my street is under a half of foot of water from the rain. Still raining too. :(

And now we are under a tornado warning.

which will likely dampen the atmosphere of the RNC further into the week. Would not look good to be celebrating and partying if anything even resembling Katrina is happening or possible. the liberal Media would eat that up beyond words.

kind of classless post. but w/e. glad i was somewhat wrong about where it's going. Winds are picking up over tampa bay. the bay waters are pushed way out. i expect storm surge to push them back once the system clears latitude.

Sailingaway--- me too, even though
as it goes over the Gulf its over water
and being over water recharges a storm!
if it remains a tropical storm and lands
near or on the panhandle at an isolated
beach, it may be missing the major cities.

good luck everyone in tampa! you may need to be in the hall... anyway

looks like most monday morning protests and marches are going to be
more than drizzled on. it could be total drenching rains by about noonish
tomorrow. what matters is how symbolic monday's GOP RNC is to be.
getting inside the hall could be an experiance as the harbor is choppy.
