People have written lots of suggestions that the forum structure be changed to have more organization but I never really got around to it.

What happened today brings a lot of discussion to the table, but like I said don't let all this distract you from doing your thing (Promoting RP). Some people are going to want change and some are going to want to leave it like it was, let your thoughts be heard.

Here is what Bryan came up with:

i think you've probably got too many categories, unless you linked some of those to permanent content rather than forums. too many forums would be abandoned and we'd be back where we were... i think... though i like where we were so...

ignore me.

really though, it was cool here for awhile. i started coming here b/c i noticed a bunch of mitt-witts in a circle jerk talking about "do this, don't do that" "we're so brilliant the campaign should hire us garbage" and thought i'd interrupt it.

for awhile, people were really discussing issues of great importance. i believe the ron paul campaign is about more than just ron paul. i believe that if we are to get ron paul elected the best strategy we can implement is to feed off of our 'collective' pool of wisdom and intuition to debate each other on the larger issues (upon which dr. paul seems to have lazer focus though they may not be the days hot issue w/ the ministry and thus seem irrelevant) and then educate others.

whatever you call the little hut we do that in doesn't matter to me really.

Well, all the things I was doing just got reclassified into dead forums with 0 viewers, so that makes carrying on a bit tough.

Whatever direction the forum takes, build the structure, then start moving posts.

I'd stick with Ron Paul News and Discussion, which would encompass everything even slightly related to Ron Paul and an Ongoing Projects thread for any project that is being worked on, no need to segregate web projects from campaign material projects, then maybe an 'everything else' forums.
I don't think most people are going to check more than 3 places for their info, so too many categories is just going to stifle innovation.

Thinking back to the two successful projects that I helped with, the Spam Drive and the Ames ad, these both would have been moved under the current acts of Foo, and neither would have been successful if they were created under todays management structure.

If a change must be made (I still think things weren't broke so why fix it?)

Grassroots Campaign
Work on grassroots projects, events, etc.

Ron Paul Campaign
Issues that are from the Official Campaign
Sub Forum:Ron Paul on the Issues

General Discussion
Anything that don't fit somewhere else.

Politics
Anything about politics in general.

now let us see you explain why we should be banned (in a seperate thread), or perhaps that might have been stepping out there a little too far.

[josh, this is what i'm talking about (or was in another thread) this type of provocation ::kylejack:: should not be tolerated... you can and that's fine, but in order to maintain the peace, just a suggestion.]

To be honest there are wayyyyyyy too many sections, even in your revision.

The forum just isn't large enough to warrant that many sections. We need maybe 5 sections

Ron Paul News and Discussion

General Politics

Campaign Projects

Misc/General chitchat

Feedback/Suggestions

If you want to differentiate between topics, you might want to add icons like they do at SA http://forums.somethingawful.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=1

So if someone posts a video project under campaign projects, there will be a video icon, and so forth.

Yeah, I have to agree. Fewer sections, not more. Frankly I think even in your list you could merge General Politics and Misc and not lose anything.

If it's not broken, don't fix it.

Some people just don't want the simple solution even if it's the best one.

Make all the nonsensical changes you want and enforce these meaningless rules. It won't do a damned bit of good.

I'm disappointed that this forum is going down this path because I've seen it so many times before - the moderators start floating around all sorts of ideas to "improve" the forum so they can make themselves feel useful. Meanwhile, the traffic to the forum begins to decrease and they don't understand why, or choose to ignore the fact.

Leave it alone and it'll be fine. If most of the sections aren't being used much, don't worry, they don't feel loneliness or sadness.

now hard@work, we have those offtopic forums, and you go there to complain that the posts are off-topic....

what gives?

I'll do it right here. Questioning of site moderation should always always always be done privately. It is totally inappropriate to start and contribute to threads raising hell about the moderation, especially since the site doesn't belong to you. The people complaining about this are the same ones that were making this place horribly painful. For example, were you hear the night Ghemminger posted fifty threads about how drunk he was in the Ron Paul News and Discussion forum? Or the time Utah Apoc. started a thread to tell everyone he was going to work to make sure Ron Paul lost the election because he got in a fight with his Meetup group leaders? Or Revolution9's long string of nonsense? Are you sure you want to be associated with these guys?
