South Carolina Election Returns - 19:00ET (1/21/12) - Official Thread

I watched them four years ago. It was dismal; and is the same tonight. I love RP but the thing is over.

Even based on early returns it looks like Paul is getting 3x or 4x what he did in 2008. SC is a tough market, but he did improve.

You think tonight is dismal? Try imagining was it was like for us watching these returns 4 years ago.

The Youth for Ron Paul gang is in Columbia.
South Carolina is the New Jersey of the South. What a cesspool of idiots.

Remember, their has been NO, ZERO, NATTA, Official Campaign Presence in South Carolina (and in the future Florida).

Only TV, some radio and direct mail and Ron Campaigning in 6 of the last 11 days.

South Carolina simply was not as important or winnable in the Strategy Playbook of the Campaign.

Everything you see tonight is because of the RP Grassroots, Thank God we have them or we might be back at 3.62% like 2008!!!

Well, if that's your philosophy fine, but it's not mine. I've hated politics all my life and never wanted anything to do with it, Ron changed that but if he doesn't win that tells me America doesn't want to change and I'll go back to looking after me and my family.

Gingrich came in fourth in two opening states, now he's on top - politics changes DAILY - if he can come back from fourth, we certainly can - especially considering Paul didn't even spend a lot of time here.

Wow, some of you are incredibly childish sore losers. Not everyone is an idiot (or worse names) because they don't vote for the same candidate as you. Also, a bunch of people in South Carolina voted for Ron Paul, so trashing the entire state of SC is ridiculous too.

On another note, Dana Bash really is a terrible reporter. I think CNN could hire a high school student who would do a better interview.

Newt is not going to be on the VA ballot. Rick is not going to be on the VA ballot. 49 delegates. Ron will be on the VA ballot.

Need to beat Mitt there.

+1. I try to make this point often -- none of us supported Paul until we were properly exposed to the message. We have a huge battle in getting that message to others, but it can be done -- we're doing it but slowly.

I know we weren't expecting to do well in SC, but it hurts seeing Santorum pull away with every update. We had him beat in SC the last few days.

this.

25 delegates at stake.. is that all?

This is going to be a long race - that favors Ron Paul. Hold it together people.

Yep. A bunch of the early states had their delegate numbers penalized by moving up their primary dates. The penalty was given to Iowa and NH in addition to SC.

But it isn't winner take all. About half go to the winner of the state, and then 2 delegates per congressional district go to the winner in that district. If Paul can secure a district (I've heard he has a strong area up north?), he might still get a couple delegates.

If I've mis-stated any of this, sorry. I am trying to remember what Ben Swann said in his report on delegates, and I don't have sound right now: http://www.fox19.com/story/16502235/reality-check-the-truth-behind-the-republican-delegate-numbers

Recommend watching that report.

Guys Gingrich will get like 10 delegates, it's not time to slit our wrists just yet.

I think young people are products of the education system provided in part from the older generation that just voted for more war and inflation. Sadly.

I've lost a lot of respect for South Carolina, I thought Ron Paul embodies everything South Carolina would find appealing in a candidate, Gun Rights, Sound Money, Liberty to live your own life. But alas, they were too easily manipulated, they believed the same media that calls them hicks and slack-jawed and voted for their own executioner.

In booing the Golden Rule, they tacitly accepted another golden rule; The man with the gold, makes the rules.

Are you fricken kidding me? so much negativity. Collins posted earlier that he had 3.6% in 2008, now we are at 11% in that state! with only 4 percent of the vote I will still take the 11 percent its a 7% increase in a state that has never favored well for us. This is still absolutely outstanding performance keep up the good work, we know this is a hard battle and have to start working a bit harder.

Romney speech, they moved the son with the bad teeth out of the camera shot.
