Ah,, so you restarted this retarded thread.

Ok lets start with. There was no "machine gun".
he had a common semi-auto rifle.

Secondly,,, Define Mental Illness.

Was this a know "side effect" of medication prescribed to him?

mental illness should be a condition certified by a board certified psychiatrist.

If a person thinks like a three year old, that person should not own a gun since children have been known to kill themselves or somebody else accidentally with a gun

Statistics can be funny things,, and often manipulated for emotional resonance.

DUI statistics for instance. They are extremely manipulated.

but, you mentioned gun deaths ( a rather small causes of death)

Heart disease: 616,067
Cancer: 562,875
Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 135,952
Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 127,924
Accidents (unintentional injuries): 123,706
Alzheimer's disease: 74,632
Diabetes: 71,382
Influenza and Pneumonia: 52,717
Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis: 46,448
Septicemia: 34,828

This one I find particularly interesting,, Murders with unknown firearms – 1928 (14.14%)

But I also question how many were murders and how many were accidents or self defense that were prosecuted as murders.

Even still,, as causes of death go,, a very low percentage. Car accidents are much higher and they are less than 5%.

How can a man with mental health issues buy a machine gun?

It's not a machine gun.
Are we supposed to read his mind?

How can he buy a car?
How can people still buy fast food?
How can cigarette companies still sell cigarettes?
How can breweries still sell alcohol?

All of which kill more people per year than any gun.

It's called freedom and personal responsibility.
Also read the quote in my sig. Gun control provides both conditions.

This would be great—except for the fact that many psychiatrists must conform to the rules and procedures dictated by government programs.

Firstly. Psychiatry has been and is used to stifle political dissent. "Accepted" professional have been involved in some very unethical behavior. Industry standards do not exist.
I personally put it in the same realm as VooDoo and Witch doctors.

Secondly,,, how would this 3 year old earn the money to purchase a firearm?

.
Not read his mind, but see whether his threats have substance to them through a sting operation

because I am pretty sure a sting operation is a lot cheaper than a prolonged court trial after the crime has been committed

So we should raid random gun owners houses to make sure they are mentally fit?

I assume you have not met a mentally unstable person who threatens to kill your family when you are not watching ?

What threats? I have heard no where that he made any threats.
People said this was entirely OUT OF Character.

He was described by several as a real nice and gentle guy.

There are already laws against murder

Well, if there are already laws against murder... If murders are happening with guns that are illegally owned... What are more guns laws going to change - except to prevent innocent law-abiding people from protecting themselves?
