Ron Paul's First Ad - as per his facebook

I love how it begins, showing all of the failures of the past. It gets people thinking, "Wow, we need a good leader." And then it transistions to the photo that shows Ron from the back and the music swells. I love it! I think that this is a fantastic ad, the fast cuts keep people's attention. I think the campaign chose their ad people well.

For a so-called "faith-heavy" audience many of the candidates aren't exactly putting their names on the "pledge".

the pledge is 'crazy-heavy' not faith-heavy. Those who like Ron like the Constitution and that pledge would have the federal government interfering in ALL SORTS of stuff the Constitution reserves to the states and the people.

The debt ceiling is in the news, so it is mentioned. "Coming this August" is a great line because it focuses on the month of the Ames debate and the Ames straw poll - not just the debt ceiling.

Really, what the ad focuses on is spending and taxes. That is what Republican voters are in an uproar about all the way down to their municipal governments. RP needs the Republican base to get behind him, and this ad focuses on that as it also takes on Obama, Pelosi, et. al.

Your average viewer is not going to analyze this to death. The message they will get is Ron Paul will take on Washington and the Dems on taxes and spending. That's a meat and potatoes Republican issue, and those are the votes RP needs.

Great ad.

I hope this ad is showing on the Boston stations and not just WMUR. WOuld be great during a Red Sox game...esp. a Red Sox/Yankee game!

Great ad.

Good analysis, and if i may add a point.... i really like the opening line about the democrats doing it to Reagan, essentially linking Ron Paul to Reagan.

I just read this entire post and it is clear to me that rockandrollsouls is just about the only one who feels the way he says he does. I for one think the ad is beautiful and perfect and I am spreading it everywhere I can. Sit back haters, we are going all in!
Someone has to be the token contrarian around this place :-P

my only question would be, how will translate on-air. Will it be clipped to a 30 second commercial?

This is failure 101. Paul Ryan tried to reach stardom by making it his and he's back to being a nobody. It's simply not an issue anyone cares about, as dire as it is.

I cannot believe the majority hear honestly thinks a hard-to-follow ad about the debt ceiling is going to win over a faith-heavy populous in Iowa. It's the wrong message and it's certainly the wrong audience.

public polling doesn't agree with you

I'm actually the supporter that tends to look at things from the mainstream republican view. Most everyone else here sees anything with Ron's name on it and thinks it's untouchable. I've been right on the polls, the effects of campaign decisions, and a number of other things and I predict this ad will be ineffective.

It simply doesn't tell the voter anything about Ron, and it doesn't convey any personal qualities or characteristics the mainline GOP voter looks for in a candidate. The long and short of it is "Will you flip? Ron won't flip." Complelling

Why haven't candidates started running commercials about themselves and their qualities? Because it's much much too early to do so. we're more than 5 or 6 months until the first caucus so it would no good to do so this early. You can, however, go ahead and run commercials attaching yourself to an issue.

Wouldve liked a more serious tone in Ron's voice b/c the topic of the ad is pretty serious, but overall good stuff.

Here's what Erik Erikson of Redstate says on his blog "The Horserace".

"Ron Paul

Ron Paul gets a bump up this week in the horserace.

People are waking up to a surprising new ad by Ron Paul today. His first ad. And it is about the debt ceiling. It is a brilliant and well done ad. As I’ve said in the past, Paul won’t be the nominee, but he could be hugely influential on the fiscal message.

Ron Paul’s ad sets the bar very high today and is going to, thankfully, force the other candidates to get into the fight over the debt ceiling, probably starting with Bachmann. The frontrunners cannot afford for Paul to get ahead of them on this issue and, given the political climate, this is actually a way for Ron Paul to creep up in the polls."

And yes, there's the token disqualifier that "Ron Paul won't be the nominee". But in his opening lines, before he gets into the details on each candidate, he mentions them briefly. Of Ron Paul, he says, "And then there is Ron Paul. Ron Paul is suddenly surprising a lot of people, including me."

Also, if this ad is, as he says, "a way for Ron Paul to creep up in the polls", well he could just creep past Romney. In the last Iowa poll Romney was at 18% and Ron Paul was at 14%

It's a brilliant advertisement framed as a trailer for an upcoming horror flick set to be released in August ... "Balanced Budget Productions" ... hehehe

Disagree with you guys.

I'm sorry, but the cost to run a one minute ad where 50 seconds is fluff and you only hear Ron's name in the last 10 seconds seems like a wasted effort to me.

This could have been so much better. They could have cut to Ron warning about these problems in the 80s and 90s and predicting this.

I'm very disappointed. Production quality is great, but the content is way off.
o' come on, this ad is great. Perfect timing for this ad! Anyone can always complain and say it shoulda or he shoulda did this,,,, blah blah
Also this is just the first ad, and I'm happy it talks about the debt ceiling at this time.

Thinking about it, I love the phrase, "They did it to Reagan." It riles people up,"How dare they do that to Reagan!" and ties into their outrage at Washington.

so, when the republican leadership caves in, they will have betrayed reagan too.
clever.
attacking status quo. that has been Ron's theme.
