I still support Paul because I know he wouldn't make sweeping federal legislation based on personal moral beliefs and know he dislikes "activist judges", but it's still an issue I strongly disagree with him on.

Actually this is not true. Murder has never been outlawed on a national basis. Murder, and other forms of violence, are legislated by the states, as abortion would be under a Ron Paul administration. California will always have legal abortion. Iowa I'm sure won't.

The good news for pro choice people is that Ron Paul is against laws that would prevent women from crossing state lines to get an abortion. So, if you get pregnant in a anti-abortion state you don't have to bust out the ol' coat hanger. You can go to an abortion-friendly state to get the job done.

Abortion has been legal for a long time in this country, as it is in most other industrialized nations. Pro choice people have nothing to fear. The chances of abortion ever being banned in the United States again are very slim. George W. Bush has been president for 8 years and he wants to ban abortion, but hasn't been able to. Ron Paul doesn't even want to. Even if he did, he wouldn't be able to.

For nearly all of the history of the US, murder was a crime at the state level, not federal. It largely still is. The states also defined murder.

Abortion is a difficult issue that will have many different opinions that vary somewhat. Difficult issues are best when decided at a more local level. In really difficult decisions, it would be even more local with a jury deciding. Disagree with the law? Read about jury nullification. Ron Paul has written in defense of it. A jury can refuse to convict on a bad law.

I hope this forum can be used to explain issues to new people and those who just haven't really considered some points of view. It shouldn't be about intellectual masturbation. Let's not turn it into a cult with only certain views allowed to be expressed.
