Ron Paul Is In!

I don't like the VP idea. The way he's going right now, he's very visible to the Tea Party and GOP base and is gaining a lot of respect there, but he's not visible enough to the general public that the media feels the need to tear him apart. If he was appointed VP spot on the GOP ticket, the media would absolutely do everything in their power to tear him apart like they did to Palin. It's much better to use the position he has now to influence the direction of the GOP until the time is right for him to run for the top spot. Unless he is running for President, it would be a waste to allow the national media to shine their whole spotlight on him and possibly taint him for the future.

Best to keep the influence he has going for him right now in the Tea Party.

I love how in this day and age we have Rand as a safety net should something happen to Ron or if he decides not to run.

The real race in 2012: the Senate
Fascinating read from a perspective I had not considered. Thanks for sharing.

And I think there is a very good chance that might be the case. They are trying to repeat the 1996 election where they simply keep the Prez boxed into a corner and on a short leash and then make a massive sweep next cycle. The idea of the pendulum swinging back in the other direction to the Bush era is a nauseating thought though.

If Ron wins the nomination and then loses against Obama the talking points would then be "see, we told you those silly small government ideas aren't electable". That is definitely a risk. But if Ron runs, doesn't receive the nomination, and the GOP nominee loses, then WE can say that people have rejected big-government Republicanism.

Regardless, one must run once before they can get the Republican nomination.

I'm not focused on those outcomes. I think everybody should try their best to produce the following outcome: Ron Paul wins the republican nomination, the general election, and becomes President. Just try that and let the chips fall where they may.

Agreed. Build our organization and become pervasive on state and local level politics because that's where our efforts will last the longest.

Not Official

I will not jump up and down till the words descend from his lips, and by the way, no matter how much money he raises, none of this will matter unless we leave the computer screen and knock on doors - period. There's many people on this forum who did that last time, but I would say the vast majority most certainly did not and I include myself in the majority. Passion is key, but it's results that matter - and that takes acting on the passion.

In the meantime, email everyone and his dog that the May 5 debate is going to be unusually entertaining. Hell, Gingrich alone will see to that. But they'll 'accidently' learn something, too.

Planting seeds now is a very good plan.

Gingrch's camp isn't sure he'll have the committee formed at that time. They say IF he does, he'd be in it. But Romney announcing his committee makes me think HE might end up in it.

Well, who knows what kind of wild cards I didn't think of come in? Or if half of them will make it in.

I'd love to know more about this mysterious committee. Is this a patronage job factory to save the RNC staff salaries or what?
